Just wish I was part of that audience to share with them MY emotions. I do not speak Arabic, and the first time I heard/ read the translation, the meaning of the song was exactly what I had understood from Oum Kalthoum. She IS able to transcend any barriers with her mighty, magical voice.

Growing up in Morocco I realize now how I miss Om Kalthoum's voice - her long concerts at which she sung and how we all hung on her every word. Om represented a world which no longer exists - the co-existence of Jew and Arab - her voice uniting us all. I cannot express how sad I feel when I see and hear this. So many of us in Israel resonate with her voice. Fakarouni is my favorite of all her songs...
