@WolfFifteen I don't know about a parakeet. However, all parrots are different and it depends on the amount of time you spend with them. Einstein started talking at 17 months of age.

Some parakeets can learn words after two months. Others can take up to six months. After a bird learns a few words, it will take much less time to teach them each word.Time and patience is the key...

Yes, but its best done with a single male bird. Two or more birds will generally talk to each other,ie "chatter".When you are ready to train your bird, speak clearly and slowly, repeating words. Slowness is important, as parakeets tend to speed up words when they repeat them. Speaking slowly will help make the words sound normal when you hear them. Be patient though, because training can take some time, even if you do it regularly and well.

While most of their "speech" is just repeating the sounds they hear, if someone spends time with their bird, they can understand that certain items are identified by specific words.

Hi, I've got an african grey too... about 6 years old... talks about 20 words including small sentences... is that good enough for his age?? Also, how do you train einstein?? It would be great help if you could respond and help me out with training my bird...

All parrots are different, just as all people are different. So, there is no way to say if 20 words for a 6 year old parrot is normal. Interact and talk to your parrot more and he will learn more. When I get the time, I want to write a post on Einstein's Blog that will explain how Einstein learns new words.  Basically it just boils down to the fact that we interact and talk to her as if she was another human!

Hei. Teaching a parrot is not like teaching a kid. You can't really work out what they're going to learn. I had amazonian parrots in the family & every one has a different intelligence. The last one I have said nothing in the first two years. I thought the parrot was deaf at first. Then she took off copying the phone greetings, appliance noises, radio songs. Some stuff she learned with us, some other stuff she picks up from nowhere. She mades up songs and speeches and seems like a crazy clown
