  • Tiocfaidh ár lá

  • Jesus, I can't believe I hadn't found this song before! I'm a huge fan of David Rovics and the late, great Francis Hughes!

    R.I.P.

    Tiocfaidh ár lá

  • @blunt1984

    LOL!

Thanks for helping me find the song!

    Cheers!

  • There was a movie planned for him "The time has come"

Then a bunch of fascists, who are even part of "anti-bully" groups got the production stopped some how.

Let's take away free-speech, because we are so afraid of any story that does not fit the official narrative; that's not bullying.

  • ROVICS BACK IN BELFAST SUNDAY 4TH MARCH

  • @mairemc1916 I know he visited a pub on Falls road 2 or so years back, is he going back there?

  • Sounds like a mong.

  • Roddies?

  • fair play . great tune

  • rest in peace francis hughes the bravest of the brave.

  • Great song for a true patriot of the Republican cause, wonder what Francis Hughes and the rest of the martyred dead would think of the way the Provo's sold out. Gerry and Martin hang your head in shame. RIP comandante Francis Hughes.

  • the provos are/were fascist right wing, conservative bastards. David Rovics- shame on you!!

  • @wyrd9121 As a former provo who spent 6 years in the H-Blocks I have been a socialist all my life. Your comments are typical of someone who is long on waffle but short on intelligent dialogue.Within the provos there were right wingers, who simply wanted the "brits " out and didnt care who controlled, as long as the tri-colour flew. However there were also socialists, communists, anarchists and others, who wanted a different Ireland. So dont label what you dont understand. David Rovics.....Legend

  • @Carrowshee1 'socialist' well good for you, but I reject all notions of nationalism. You say you are a former combatant, well so am I (ex UDR) According to the ruling elite we should hate each others guts over which flag should fly over City hall. I don't operate like that. I realised a long time ago that myself and my comrades were used by the establishment, but, in my opinion, so were you and your comrades. Rovics has let himself slip into lazy politics, ie all Irish republicans=good

  • @Carrowshee1 The UDA & UVF had many left leaning people in positions of leadership (aswell as racist NF supporting thugs) So just like the republican side, there were good and bad, left wing and right, but I doubt any American socialist would say that any Loyalist was any good. Bad, evil things were done by ALL sides, but some of the worst, most evil deeds I have ever witnessed were done by the Provies. Proxy bombs, blowing up a War memorial, etc etc. I like Rovics, but not ALL his material!!

  • @wyrd9121

There's a big difference between the UDA/UVF and the provies. The provies didn't target loyalist civilians in such a scale like the UDA/UVF did. Sure, a fucking lot of people died from the bombs of the provies, but that was to a huge majority accidental casualties from car bombs, despite the fact that they always sent out warnings to the public when risking civilian casualties. The UDA/UVF was different, they targeted catholic civilians in a bigger scale...

  • @wyrd9121

If you want proof of this, let's look at the casualty numbers released by CAIN:

Amount of people who died because of violent acts by militant republican groups during the Troubles: 2060, 762 civilians.

Amount of sectarian murders: 198. That's a bit less than 10% of all the people they killed totally.

Let's look on the loyalists. Amount of people killed by violent acts by militant loyalist groups during the Troubles: 1016. Civilians: 881. Sectarian murders: 754. That's around 75%...

  • @maxcommunist CAIN has been proven to be an unreliable source of information. The provies DID sometimes target civilians. Many of the 'civilians' killed by Loyalists later turned out to be republican activists. But anyway, am not going to argue about a patch of land. Nationalism is just another way for the elite to divide and conquer. And am not going to embrace the IRA. They did some truly horrific things. Btw, the 'conflict' in northern ireland, like most conflicts, was a working class war!!

  • @wyrd9121

"Republican activists" They are still unarmed civilians. I'm not denying that the Provies did bad things too, it was a war, and all attacks on civilians is cowardly and evil, irregardless of the perpetrators, but it's an undeniable fact that the Loyalists was the worst part in the conflict.

It's not about nationalism, it's about anti-Imperialism and anti-occupation. Does supporting Palestine make you a Nationalist?

  • @maxcommunist wasn't loyalists who blew up school buses, wasn't loyalists who abducted, raped and murdered a single mother of 10 children, wasn't loyalists that blew up men women and children. and who exactly "occupies" northern ireland? because the loyalist people have been there for 500 years.

  • @wyrd9121

I never said that republicans never did terrible things. However the numbers speak for themselves, the loyalists were the worst fucking scum in the conflict.

Irish people has been there for 10,000 years. Loyalists has been there for 400-500. Republican political activists is still being persecuted and interned by the british state because of their political views.

  • @wyrd9121

Why the hell are you such a history revisionist? It was loyalists whom threw out irish farmers from their lots when they couldn't afford to pay the rent during the starvation, and thusly making over two millions of men women and children die. All at the same time as the loyalists exported massive amounts of food to London. It has been loyalists who throughout history has burned cities and put entire towns to the sword, and has enslaved or killed hundreds of thousands of innocents.

  • @wyrd9121

Why are you lying? Loyalists did indeed blow up women and children, to deny that is pure history revisionism! What about McGurk's bar, Dublin and Monaghan, rings any bells? You are however correct, the Loyalists slaughtered civilians through shootings and torture, like the Glenanne gang.

Can you name those incidents by the way? I haven't ever heard of the IRA "bombing school buses", what incident was that, when and where did it happen?

  • @wyrd9121

The entire strategy of the Loyalists was to spread terror amongst the catholics by slaughtering as many civilians as possible. They killed 1016 people, 128, or 12,5% of them was: republican militants, british security, informers and other loyalists they killed in feuds. The rest, 87,5% was civilians!! 741, 73% of the killings was sectarian murders!

Let's do the same to the IRA. They killed 2031 people (miscounted in one of my earlier posts)...

  • @wyrd9121

...If we do the same and count: British and Irish security forces, Loyalist paramilitaries, informers and other republicans they killed in feuds it gives us the number of 1373 deaths, or 68%. The rest, 32% was civilian, out of those was 327 intended murders, that's 16,1% of the deaths.

I'm not denying the fact that members of the IRA and similar groups did some terrible things, but the loyalists were the worst scum. 73.0% Intended killings of civilians vs 16.1% for god's sake!

  • @wyrd9121

Counting the same deaths as before, security forces, loyalist paramilitaries, informers, criminals and members killed from premature explosions and other republicans in feuds, the death toll lands at 1400. That's 69%. Let's remove all the accidental civilian deaths and like before only count intended murders, it gives us the number of 220, roughly 10%.

To sum it up, members of IRA and similar groups did horrible things yes, but the loyalists was the worst. 73% vs 10% for god's sake!

  • @wyrd9121

Sorry for the harsh language in the first of my post today, but historical revisionism just pisses me off.

  • @maxcommunist Calm down mate, just forget the whole thing. I just regard the irish republican stance of 'Planters Go Home' as being very racist. The school bus incident was in Co. Fermanagh in the 80s shortly after the Enniskillen bomb, there is a video of the incident on YT (the ITN report of the incident that is) All the best mate. Peace.

  • @wyrd9121

I see, I haven't heard about that incident. I highly doubt that it was made under the permission of the actual IRA though, sounds very much like some fuckers going out on a freelance bombing(just like with the Kingsmill massacre). Irregardless the perpetrators were cowardly swines.

Sure, there was sectarian words said on both sides, however the official stance of the PIRA wasn't sectarian, their campaign wasn't made up by sectarian killings like the loyalists.

    Peace.

  • @wyrd9121

You're welcome to write up sources to that CAIN is unreliable, and write up a better source to numbers of casualties during the Troubles.

  • @Carrowshee1 such an eloquent and brilliant way of dealing with a lack of intelligence. Very well said, and by the way, god bless you for your sacrifice.

  • A song for one of my all time heroes, and thats including in all walks of life. I know there has been other songs and poems written about him but sometimes its good to get someone from outside to do one. This song is very fiting. Its good he says the Comadente part , as it draws parellels with Che Guevara and thats how he should be seen. Hopefully someday a statue like the ones in Cuba to Che can be errected to OUR Commadante

  • Very sad end to Francis Hughes, but he will be remembered in Ireland.
