wow, never saw this area from a Train......lived here all my life.,definitely a different perspective to what Iv`e seen from a Car......most of the Large Studebaker buildings are gone.....and the Oliver plant works, but they use the one building with the smoke stack at the end, for "Rose brick and Materials".....(at least it looked like that building).......nice job...
Ah no water or air, seats ripped, dirty, smelly, Conductor and Porters drunk, late, rides like a tank, AMTRAK is the best ! Look closely..you can see railroaders stealing out of the boxcars!
Railroad dicks arfe the worst...they steal guns !
Is this the line that streams through residential Mishawaka at like 65 MPH? LOL With no horns? heheh First time I was in Mish when Amtrak roared through, I about crapped myself before I realized the dual tracks there are also dual-purpose.
Was, or is, South Bend a big auto manufacturing town? I have only been thru there on the train. Everybody knows the name, but I don't know too much about that place.
it used to be, up until the early 70s. studebakers were made in south bend. then for a brief time, avanti. now that you mention it, hummers are made in the american general plant next door in mishiwaka. (that's the town between elkhart and south bend. hope that answers your question.
I remember the Studebakers. They had a pointed nose. Kind of like a small Edsel. My mother once accidentally ran a Stop sign with our giant 1948 Olds. We took the entire front of a Studebaker off, from the firewall to the front bumper. Guy in the Studebaker didn't get hurt at all. I banged my head and my father got a couple broken rips. This was before seatbelts were in fashion.
