That's a male. Looks like the spear entered about 3 to 4 inches below his anus, which is right under the base of his tail. Would be like a male human being impaled in the space between his anus and his scrotum.

That's a possibility. But, it depends on what the spear went through. Judging from the angle, it may have punctured his bladder and came out just to the left of his sheath. It could have missed, too. I can see what appears to be the other end of the spear hanging down from next to the sheath like it had been broken after it impaled him. I've heard stories of people surviving worse than that.
