I'm against the Protect IP Act as written. If it passes, then it will be more difficult for diabetics to import the natural pork & beef insulin that they need for survival and quality of life. Eli Lilly stated that rDNA synthetic human insulin wouldn't work for some diabetics and rDNA human insulin is the only insulin available in America. Why isn't natural pork & beef insulin protected by the "Orphan Drug Act"? Pork & Beef insulin should be available to American diabetics again.

There's a problem in our economy that companies (here, Eli Lilly) make money by treating an illness without curing it, and profit so much that they dominate the discussion concerning that illness, including dictating health insurance policies. Any real cure gets marginalized and patients who could benefit are told it's quackery. This video is a nice clear description but it doesn't only happen to Dr. Fuhrman. It would be good to find a general solution to all its manifestations.

I was (UN) lucky enough to get diabetes when I was 11 months old,I am now 34.I live in the USA and I was once on BEEF and PORK insulin but many years ago.My Dr. at the time told me to get off the pork insulin and go on to NOVOLOG.I am still using novolog but I have no symptoms of hypoglycemia what so ever.I also am now on SSDI from my lack of control with no symptoms.I started a medtronic insulin pump in July of 2009 and I still use it.That cost me and my wife $5,800 that only 20% was covered

After reading these comments it seems like most people are unaware of Type 1.5, aka monogenic diabetes or MODY. This affects very young children (usually diagnosed before 6 mo.) and adolescents/young adults. Often confused as T1 or T2, people w/MODY can survive on pills and/or diet & exercise. It's rare but does exist. Search monogenic diabetes for more info. As a T1 for 25 years, raw foods ONLY help T1.5 & T2's. Type 1 diabetes is NOT curable yet. Save your dollars.
I have a food allergy or food intolerance to beef and it would be nice if the insulin I'm using is from beef or pork.Maybe if I knew which is the insulin I'm using is made from insulin.Even in Canada there is one rDNA insulin and it is called human insulin.To me it sounds like GMO produced by Eli Lilly.Been using it for years.I have had many problems with hypoglycemia and very high blood sugar.I have Type 1 Diabetes so I can't go without insulin.There is a cure for it.the pharmacies stop it.
@DivineLight59 Any rDNA insulin is synthetic. rDNA = Recombinant DNA, or synthesized DNA. Technically it is "human insulin" as it uses human DNA, it is just synthesized in a lab. A common misconception in the U.S. is that most insulin is made from pigs, as far as I know, rDNA insulin is the only type available in the U.S. As for a cure, I'm not sure that they have anything to get your pancreas back into proper order, but I hope one becomes public soon.

People I know someone who followed Dr Fuhrman's advice re diabetes. She is 100% cured. Has been off all meds for 15 months. The diabeties is an industry.
I always had jobs that kept me moving and active, then I got sedentary kind of job. I was in the emergency room with 296 blood sugar in 2 months. They said I was type 2 diabetic. Two years later I got an active sort of job again and lost 20 pounds in 2 months working very hard. My blood sugar is now 80-90 and my doctor thinks I may be cured. I am still carefull and try to stay active. I think excercise is absolutely essential as my dietary habits are only so so.
No. I'm an RN, and the medical industry puts more money than I can count into convincing people that diabetis ll is incurable and progressive. I cured mine though. I tried to tell people about it on the ADA discussion boards and was called "a dangerous extremist".

I think most people put too much trust in their doctor that they don't believe options exist.
6 weeks ago, my glucose readings were over 400! My DR was threatening to put me on insulin instead of oral medications which I have been on for 10+ years. I only changed my diet and today my glucose was 92 and I'm taking 2) 5mg of Glyb instead of 4 daily. I'm still taking the Metformin but this is all diet no exercise. I've also lost 20 pounds which is a good start. Diet works!!
My case: The best indicator of where you stand with Diabetes II is a Hemoglobin A1C test. It shows the average amount of sugar in your blood over the last 2 to 3 months.A few months ago, mine was 'pre-diabetic'. I changed my diet to more fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables, NO RED MEAT, and 1/4 spoon of ground Cinnamon daily. My A1C test came back as 5.1 - which is completely NORMAL. No diabetes 2.

Yes, this works for type 2. That's something you can avoid. With type one as I had, I was 5 and my pancreas was attacked due to the failure of my white cells not being able to fight it. lots of people get off type 2 diabetes. My doctors NEVER told me that. lose weight, get lots of daily excersize. That is the most important thing to getting better from type 2. Don't eat so much garbage food; sugar, salt, grease, fat is probably 2nd in importance, but I got better still eating some junk food. eat several small meals a day instaed of a couple of big ones. Raw foods help. But doctors did not want to hear about my experiences till I lost 20 pounds & got better.

@anjelinajp1, theres a certain diet my grandfather went on when he found out he had type 2 diabetes. I think it was the south beach diet or something similar. He followed it strictly and after a year or two, every time he would test his blood sugar, it tested normal. He went to the doctors and they confirmed he no longer had type 2 diabetes. I've also heard something about eating almost nothing but raw vegetables for two weeks.

My daughter emma was diagnosed type 1 (antibodies present) She has come off insulin via a low carb regime. Her HbA1c was 4.5 last time - normal for a non-diabetic. Her consultant has never asked what she was doing to get the results she did - he never even looked at her. The rest of his patients had far less control over their bg and higher HbA1c. No mainstream doctor has wanted to talk to us about it - even one who was a friend and had T1 Diabetes himself. Bizarre!
being on insulin isn't so bad in the first place guys, just work out how much carbs u eat then inject the amount of insulin u need to counteract what u have eaten, takes some practise and close monitoring of ur levels but its easy enough. in England there is a DAFNE course which teaches this principle, its bloody good and allows u to eat what u want. get on it.

It's fairly common knowledge that Type 2 diabetes can be cured by diet and excercise. The doctors would never tell you that. But there are so many stories of Type 2 diabetes disappearing when people make radically healthy changes to their life. I would say it's worth it, wouldn't you?
For us Type 1 diabetics, though, we will have to wait for a different "cure". Diet and excercise aren't quite enough, sadly. Our bodies aren't just *insulin-resistant*, they don't produce insulin. :(

I disagree. Diabetes isn't really a disease per se, but more of a condition. Remove the contributing factors that have lead to the condition, and the condition no longer exists. Same goes for lifestyle induced fatigue, hypertension, and IBS.

to reverse diabetes you need to be on a diet like raw food diet for about a year to achieve complete reversal, just eating what you call "healthy" for a while and then going back to junk food is not giving your body a good chance to heal. My daughter is a type 1 diabetic who has been completely insulin FREE for 3 months now. Dr.'s are scratching their heads...swearing she will be back on any time now. So far, we monitor her blood and totally see the difference when she deviates from the paleo diet we are all on now. She is doing amazing. People can live without insulin...even type 1 diabetics. My dad was a lobbyist/lawyer for the insurance industry many years ago. The doctors and congressmen get incredible perks from the pharmas and hospitals. If you can't make it by your wits and smarts go become a doctor and make a killing off of the suffering. I am a ways away from becoming a good doctor since I have to be self taught but one does what one has to. There are great countries that offer medicine but being born in the U.S. has meant third world care for me and I pay taxes so those in congress get free medicine.

Its hard to beleive man.I try and eat well, but i need my INSULIN. If i dont take it bad things happen. I try and eat healthy, all that does is lower my carbohydrates therefore lower my insulin requirment. Hardly a miracle, its just an obvious fact thats why we count carbs. I'm against the Protect IP Act as written. If it passes, then it will be more difficult for diabetics to import the natural pork & beef insulin that they need for survival and quality of life. There's a problem in our economy that companies (here, Eli Lilly) make money by treating an illness without curing it, and profit so much that they dominate the discussion concerning that illness, including dictating health insurance policies. Any real cure gets marginalized and patients who could benefit are told it's quackery. This video is a nice clear description but it doesn't only happen to Dr. Fuhrman. It would be good to find a general solution to all its manifestations.

I was (UN) lucky enough to get diabetes when I was 11 months old,I am now 34.I live in the USA and I was once on BEEF and PORK insulin but many years ago.My Dr. at the time told me to get off the pork insulin and go on to NOVOLOG.I am still using novolog but I have no symptoms of hypoglycemia what so ever.I also am now on SSDI from my lack of control with no symptoms.I started a medtronic insulin pump in July of 2009 and I still use it.That cost me and my wife $5,800 that only 20% was covered

After reading these comments it seems like most people are unaware of Type 1.5, aka monogenic diabetes or MODY. This affects very young children (usually diagnosed before 6 mo.) and adolescents/young adults. Often confused as T1 or T2, people w/MODY can survive on pills and/or diet & exercise. It's rare but does exist. Search monogenic diabetes for more info. As a T1 for 25 years, raw foods ONLY help T1.5 & T2's. Type 1 diabetes is NOT curable yet. Save your dollars.

I have a food allergy or food intolerance to beef and it would be nice if the insulin I'm using is from beef or pork.Maybe if I knew which is the insulin I'm using is made from insulin.Even in Canada there is one rDNA insulin and it is called human insulin.To me it sounds like GMO produced by Eli Lilly.Been using it for years.I have had many problems with hypoglycemia and very high blood sugar.I have Type 1 Diabetes so I can't go without insulin.There is a cure for it.the pharmacies stop it.

@DivineLight59 Any rDNA insulin is synthetic. rDNA = Recombinant DNA, or synthesized DNA. Technically it is "human insulin" as it uses human DNA, it is just synthesized in a lab. A common misconception in the U.S. is that most insulin is made from pigs, as far as I know, rDNA insulin is the only type available in the U.S. As for a cure, I'm not sure that they have anything to get your pancreas back into proper order, but I hope one becomes public soon.

I know because I can feel it. degenerative diseases are caused by a yeast IMO that takes advantage of the acidic envirnoment. I don't know why but bad microbes can't survive in an alkaline envirnoment. Vegetables are by far the most alkalizing foods. PH matters most, western medicine is quite possibly the biggest lie ever perpetrated in human history.

I always had jobs that kept me moving and active, then I got sedentary kind of job. I was in the emergency room with 296 blood sugar in 2 months. They said I was type 2 diabetic. Two years later I got an active sort of job again and lost 20 pounds in 2 months working very hard. My blood sugar is now 80-90 and my doctor thinks I may be cured. I am still carefull and try to stay active. I think excercise is absolutely essential as my dietary habits are only so so.

6 weeks ago, my glucose readings were over 400! My DR was threatening to put me on insulin instead of oral medications which I have been on for 10+ years. I only changed my diet and today my glucose was 92 and I'm taking 2) 5mg of Glyb instead of 4 daily. I'm still taking the Metformin but this is all diet no exercise. I've also lost 20 pounds which is a good start. Diet works!!

My case: The best indicator of where you stand with Diabetes II is a Hemoglobin A1C test. It shows the average amount of sugar in your blood over the last 2 to 3 months.A few months ago, mine was 'pre-diabetic'. I changed my diet to more fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables, NO RED MEAT, and 1/4 spoon of ground Cinnamon daily. My A1C test came back as 5.1 - which is completely NORMAL. No diabetes 2.
Just to show you don't need expensive medication or fancy sounding, expensive supplements...:)

Yes, this works for type 2. That's something you can avoid. With type one as I had, I was 5 and my pancreas was attacked due to the failure of my white cells not being able to fight it. And c'mon, the companies shouldn't be like that. They should be happy there's a cure. Sure your business goes down, but you can't be disappointed merely because of business...

lots of people get off type 2 diabetes. My doctors NEVER told me that. lose weight, get lots of daily excersize. That is the most important thing to getting better from type 2. Don't eat so much garbage food; sugar, salt, grease, fat is probably 2nd in importance, but I got better still eating some junk food. eat several small meals a day instaed of a couple of big ones. Raw foods help. But doctors did not want to hear about my experiences till I lost 20 pounds & got better.

yes this guy is correct type 2 diabetes can be cured by proper diet & exercise but that is not always the case but that is not so with type 1 or juvenile diabetes. The pancreas is composed on 4 cells alpha, beta, delta & F-cells what makes a person type 1 is having little to no beta cells present & the only way to cure this is to regenerate these cells in the pancreas & thats where my anti-diabetic agent comes in

@anjelinajp1, theres a certain diet my grandfather went on when he found out he had type 2 diabetes. I think it was the south beach diet or something similar. He followed it strictly and after a year or two, every time he would test his blood sugar, it tested normal. He went to the doctors and they confirmed he no longer had type 2 diabetes. I've also heard something about eating almost nothing but raw vegetables for two weeks.

My daughter emma was diagnosed type 1 (antibodies present) She has come off insulin via a low carb regime. Her HbA1c was 4.5 last time - normal for a non-diabetic. Her consultant has never asked what she was doing to get the results she did - he never even looked at her. The rest of his patients had far less control over their bg and higher HbA1c. No mainstream doctor has wanted to talk to us about it - even one who was a friend and had T1 Diabetes himself. Bizarre!

being on insulin isn't so bad in the first place guys, just work out how much carbs u eat then inject the amount of insulin u need to counteract what u have eaten, takes some practise and close monitoring of ur levels but its easy enough. in England there is a DAFNE course which teaches this principle, its bloody good and allows u to eat what u want. get on it.

It's fairly common knowledge that Type 2 diabetes can be cured by diet and excercise. The doctors would never tell you that. But there are so many stories of Type 2 diabetes disappearing when people make radically healthy changes to their life. I would say it's worth it, wouldn't you?
For us Type 1 diabetics, though, we will have to wait for a different "cure". Diet and excercise aren't quite enough, sadly. Our bodies aren't just *insulin-resistant*, they don't produce insulin. :(

They want an easy solution - "just give us a pill to fix the problem!" The reason we have so many patients with diabetis in this country in the first plase is because people eat like pigs and do nothing but sitting on their fat asses watching TV - and then complaining about their doctors.

I disagree. Diabetes isn't really a disease per se, but more of a condition. Remove the contributing factors that have lead to the condition, and the condition no longer exists. Same goes for lifestyle induced fatigue, hypertension, and IBS.

to reverse diabetes you need to be on a diet like raw food diet for about a year to achieve complete reversal, just eating what you call "healthy" for a while and then going back to junk food is not giving your body a good chance to heal. My daughter is a type 1 diabetic who has been completely insulin FREE for 3 months now. Dr.'s are scratching their heads...swearing she will be back on any time now. So far, we monitor her blood and totally see the difference when she deviates from the paleo diet we are all on now. She is doing amazing. People can live without insulin...even type 1 diabetics. You have nothing to lose by trying....just look up paleo diet. And good luck with your health.

When I was in the hospital with diabetes, it seemed some doctors would tell me I was to get worse & some wanted to tell me I could get better, but would not tell me how. I had to walk out of the hospital to get improvement.

My dad was a lobbyist/lawyer for the insurance industry many years ago. The doctors and congressmen get incredible perks from the pharmas and hospitals. If you can't make it by your wits and smarts go become a doctor and make a killing off of the suffering. Anyone who has lived overseas will tell you our medicine is third rate to countrys that provide medical help to their people. My godfather a surgeon used to say the worst place to be when you are sick is in a hospital w/out an advocate.

I'm diabetic w/ no health insurance therefore I have to control it myself. I have in essence had to become my own doctor and will continue to do so unless I find a country that will accept U.S. refugees in need of medical help. I am a ways away from becoming a good doctor since I have to be self taught but one does what one has to. There are great countries that offer medicine but being born in the U.S. has meant third world care for me and I pay taxes so those in congress get free medicine.

Take a look at Dr. Fuhrman's dietary recommendations as if the person with instances of hypoglycemia was actually in a pre-diabetic state.

Its hard to beleive man.I try and eat well, but i need my INSULIN. If i dont take it bad things happen. I try and eat healthy, all that does is lower my carbohydrates therefore lower my insulin requirment. Hardly a miracle, its just an obvious fact thats why we count carbs. Im not closed minded, i beleive theres more than doctors tell us, in fact i beleive they are all nothing but "drug prescribers".these "get off drugs diets" work well for everything but type 1 diabetes. We are dependant!
