The sad part is, next to the "timer" (which is obviously there) because his parents make him practice.... is a metronome, which would be useful. Then again, when I was 13, I enjoyed "running away with tempo" and playing it the way I felt. However, if you ever have any intent on doing anything with music; it's much easier to learn beats NOW than it is 10 years later in College.

@mkonjhg1, OK, i think you're right. My sheet music has it in the key of C and I have seen other sheet music with it in C as well. A few "other" people online also play it in C. I assume this is because it is easier to play in C. Anyway, i listened to the Guaraldi version and it sound to me like the bass run starts in G#.

It's not so much that it's too fast (this is about the same tempo Vince Guaraldi plays it) as it is the incorrect rhythm that makes it sound faster than it is. It's also in the wrong key--should be A-flat. Keep practicing.
