  • impressed

  • Nuisance

  • props on still jumping!

  • is it just me or does anyone else prefer the sound of the wind on these videos?

  • Wow, that looked painfull O_O

  • Im not trying to flame here, but it looked like a normall opening, is it posible u just got unlucky when it opend? cuz i skydive and iv had back problems where i slip a disk easy if i lift heavy stuff or golf to hard. maybe it was pre existing and the normal opening just amplified the situation. hell, even when my back was in good shape, all it takes is the right amount of force at the right time to mess up a perfectly healthy spine. anyway, im glad ur ok! BLUE SKIES Keep diving!

  • I dont get it. why do Base jumpers not have this happen all the time. I thought Base pack jobs were supposed to open quickly, and so hard (i guessing). and i know youll say cus their not at Terminal velocity but there are still objects where they get to TV.

    Are the canopies different etc.?

  • @ullekush Yes, Base gear is a little different than skydiving gear. They do pack differently and the gear is made for quicker openings, for example they have vented canopies(if desired), bigger pc's, no d-bag, etc. and for ones that are going to be deployed at terminal or good rule of thumb 3+ second delay you would want to pack slider up, unless you craving for a broken back. Cheers!

  • @ullekush BASE jumpers don't typically reach terminal velocity, so their deceleration isn't as rapid.

  • @ullekush And I'm not really sure what your objection to the TV argument is. Most of the time they won't reach it. If they are going to reach TV, then they obviously have enough altitude that it's not critical that their chute open instantaneously.

  • Is that the brake at 1:32min?

  • looks like your brakes were not stowed and lock your legs when you track!!! welcome to skydiving

  • Where was this jump?

  • Mr. digitalkicks, I don't know if this is the info your looking for but here goes..The hard opening ruptured/herniated the disc between C6 & C7 in my neck. The ruptured material pressed against the nerves in my spine that caused severe pain in my arms and upper body. Surgery was performed by a Neurosurgeon. They removed the damaged dics and replaced it with cadaver bone with a metal plate and screws to hold the two disc together. It was a overnight stay in the hospital. 16 wk in a neck brace.

  • Hi Mr Chaos!

I have a prolapsed disc in my neck, and the op you had sounds like a possibilty for long-term releif of this pain i've had for nearly a year now..If you can give me any info on this please, i'd really appreciate it. thanks.

    Blue skies

    :)

  • @digitalkicks ..cont..The surgery was a success. Completely recovered and pain free. Back skydiving again. However I have a broken wrist now. Suggest you find a good Neurosurgeon and BLUE SKIES

  • improperly stowed brakes will cause super fast super hard openings.. been there done that

  • The lesson here? Don't trust the packers @Gold Coast. Their sloppiness could break your neck.

  • @neomuttley sometime to well placed fabric gives super hard oppening too.

some slopyness is requirired to be a good packer :D

  • @houk3,

Hola. I don't know how to pack good, yet. My understanding is that sloppiness is something to be avoided. Sloppiness = unknown trouble. Get sloppy stuffing it into the bag any old way? The slider works down a couple inches, & BAM. It happened to a friend of mine many years ago. She broke a vertebrae in her neck. She has suffered for years to continue jumping. She'll have to have major fusion done within five years. Then, she won't be able to do much of anything.

  • Ouch!!! Dou you pack your own rig now? Blue Skies!

  • Ouch! 120 to 14 on deployment! Are you packing your own rig now? Blue Skies!

  • 1. It was a very bad pack job, your right brake wasn´t fixed.

    2. No good reaction by the instructor and videoman. In the moment they see the braketoggle over you, the have you to stabilize during the opening.

  • All in all i am glad you are ok. and i am also glad you continue to jump. Blue skies ^^

  • thats in credible, you had 1 minute 13 seconds in free fall here, and im assuming you pulled at 6k feet?

  • lol..i had one of those on student gear....a newer guy was learning to pack under supervision, so i jumped the gear...i threw and BOOOM there was a canopy over my head...had bruises from the leg straps and a sore neck for a week....

  • why did you have a hard opening, just because brake came out ?

  • @drumatic86 I am not sure of the exact cause of the hard opening, but probably 1 or a combination of the following. 1: The main parashute was a Sabre 1 which is know to sometimes open hard. 2: Brake not stowed properly and/or bad pack job. 3: It was just not my day.

  • @MrChaos39073 Dude I am understand bad day in Skydiving.. :-) I buggered my landing and sprained the ligaments in both knees and it took 4 months of physio and pain to come right... But I still love jumping cant wait to get back up

  • @MrChaos39073 id say bad pack job

  • nice form looks like it hurt bad
