For your info, after Katrina, President Bush DID NOT respond slowly to Katrina. He requested a week before land fall that the LA Gov Blanco, allow federal assistance. She did not allow FEMA or FEDS to come into her State. If you know the US Constitution you know why Blanco had that power.

On one hand, I've been told that the reason the northeast has been so freaked out is because 1. They haven't had a storm like that in 40 years. Now, think about that honestly. We've come a FAR way in 40 years in terms of construction. In FL and AL and GA we have building standards for our housing to accommodate hurricanes up to about category 3-4.

Yes it started Cat 2 by the time it hit the shore it went to Cat1 usually happens. Now in my area it is just tropical it is dying out. The gov. was not taking any chances because we complained about them not doing more in Katrina I work with rescue and demanded people bring there animals to shelters. They wanted to make sure no one got hurt

Not so bad so far. Im in a evacuation zone and allot of people in my neighborhood are still here even though we were supposed to be gone by 5 pm. IMHO the hail and tornados seemed worse last summer though here in NYC we still have not seen the worst of it. So maybe I'm jumping the gun on my judgement.

I am in Patchogue Long Island and it is raining here but nothing kicked up too heavy yet. The fear mongering here is a first for this type of storm. If you understood how hurricanes are categorized, you would understand that the category of a hurricane refers to it's wind speed, not it's size. What is abnormal about Irene is it's size is huge. That is why the reports are concered about damage due to storm surge, not wind.

For your info, after Katrina, President Bush DID NOT respond slowly to Katrina. He requested a week before land fall that the LA Gov Blanco, allow federal assistance. She did not allow FEMA or FEDS to come into her State. If you know the US Constitution you know why Blanco had that power.

On one hand, I've been told that the reason the northeast has been so freaked out is because 1. They haven't had a storm like that in 40 years. Now, think about that honestly. We've come a FAR way in 40 years in terms of construction. In FL and AL and GA we have building standards for our housing to accommodate hurricanes up to about category 3-4.
I don't think the situation is as much "I smell a rat" as much as they're using it as a distraction.

Farmers use to buy this manual and it was always accurate in predicting the weather-so they planted accordingly for the seasons, back when weather was natural and had normal patterns and was easy to follow. WE were outraged with Katrina it cost the tax payers millions for us to go out. Brad Pitt, other stars helped us round up thousands of animals that people had to leave. We were outraged and want all storms to be broadcasts we want to know what is going on we demanded all animals go to safe shelters with humans. I work with the IFAW and other groups. We worked for years and still picking animals up that were left by Katrina this is why they did this WE WANT THE PEOPLE to always be aware.

Yes it started Cat 2 by the time it hit the shore it went to Cat1 usually happens. Now in my area it is just tropical it is dying out. The gov. was not taking any chances because we complained about them not doing more in Katrina I work with rescue and demanded people bring there animals to shelters. Not so bad so far. Im in a evacuation zone and allot of people in my neighborhood are still here even though we were supposed to be gone by 5 pm. I'm in south jersey and we are getting hit pretty hard. But still I feel uneased it just seems to secuential. I feel like more is going to happen. HARRP probably didn't complete creat it it probably created planted the seeds. I study weather and it seems like it's a bit to guided we shall see what happens with NY let's just hope we all kick through it

In response to the half baked commenter who previously wrote that HAARP can generate only about 3.7M watts, you better do some reading on HAARP. The combined output of the entire array of antennas located in Alaska is over a Terawatt, that's 1 trillion watts. And btw HAARP is only one component used to seed storm clouds and multiply their strength, as DARPA uses chemical cloud seeding as well to amplify the storms intensity.

I am in Patchogue Long Island and it is raining here but nothing kicked up too heavy yet. The fear mongering here is a first for this type of storm. People are frantic, stores have HUGE signs saying "NO WATER, BATTERIES, FLASHLIGHTS, GENERATORS, TAPE" (sent chills down my spine with the no water part). The local news is VERY eager for everyone to learn of all the "safe haven" shelters around. They are talking about the storm like they WANT IT TO HAPPEN! Definitely unnerving. Please pray for us!

If you understood how hurricanes are categorized, you would understand that the category of a hurricane refers to it's wind speed, not it's size. What is abnormal about Irene is it's size is huge. That is why the reports are concered about damage due to storm surge, not wind.

interesting, interesting...I live in the Newark area and yesterday the air got still...you know the calm before the storm....Now today its getting dark, drizzle and rain here and there...I dont feel its gonna be as baad as they make it but who knows... They ARE shutting down the city that never sleeeps so lets just wait it out and see. I have a feeling tho that monday morning its gonna be bright like nothing transpired!

On the news last night the weather man was aging the same thing... there shouldn't be this much panic about this hurricane. I never worry about this stuff. Whatever happens is going to happen.

Christopher, I keep hearing the quake was 5.6, but whatever it was, it was odd. The storm fear mongering is just as odd. I heard this media "expert" make the point that of course the "story" is always massaged. It is interpreted and then tailored to "fit" the public.

nothing is happening here in NYC except a bunch of people acting scared & buying up all the food in the grocery stores. no one went to work today so a lot of shops are closed & a few places have already been robbed. but the rainfall here is like any other rainy day. i guess i'll see if anything changes tomorrow.

I know about HARRP and I agree with you! I live on the East Coast I am much more inland, yes we have a bad storm and its real, this is more a magnetic storm because we had that Earthquake first , I have read about HARRP and also read many other things and especially pertaining to 9/11, did you know that Manhattan had an earthquake also before the WTC was attacked. I have learned that HARRP was developed during WW2 and the Military used it during Vietnam ! Now they are using it against us!
