  • wow

    1:36 ..

    wow

  • Good track. The 5 Royales had mastered the Secular/ Gospel transition. They created the soul sound with it and basically created what we call Soul Music.

  • PJ, you're killing me with this stuff!

  • Glad you're enjoying it

  • I was just listning to doo wop

Then I ran across "Doo Wop Gospel"??

I'm so glad I did, cause I never thought of it

I hear some Sam Cooke style being thrown in there too!!

  • little gem

  • Amazing. Never heard this before. Wow!

  • That was my reaction to it as well

  • You can really see how influential Sam Cooke was to artists during this time period. You can hear Sam's influence at 0:40 and 1:37 with this group

  • As far as the younger gospel groups go, I think most of them were influenced by Sam and The Soul Stirrers. I can hear the influence on this one as well

  • One of the best doo wop -gospel offerings of all! TJ Lubinsky `s Father owned Savoy records in Newark,NJ.

  • You're absolutely right. I believe TJ's dad is Buzzy Lubinksy who took the label over from his father in the early 60s.

  • In the Best of CD, another very doo woppy song, and one of their very best imo, is "To the End."

  • Very interesting.. I will have to look for that song

  • Love those gospel tunes with the doo wop feel to it!

  • Absolutely. This is even more a doo wop song than most of the crossover gospel stuff.

  • They recorded this song, "Jesus Saves". Does anyone have it. Please Post it if you have it. Thanks

  • I don't have that but will post it if I find it

  • I have the CD, The Best of The Hightower Brothers. I am sure it's on there. Listing to Little Sugar sing Seat In The Kingdom. It is a collector's item.

  • And you know the most awesome thing is that the youngest brother did most the leading. He had an awesome voice. I grew up listening to their music. My parents did not allow us to listen to what they call "secular music".

  • my father always talked about the High Tower Brothers from newark NJ everytime he saw Sugar play with slim and the supreme angels. Its really good to hear history like this.

  • I didn't realize they are from Newark. That would explain the street corner R&B sound of this record. Newark was one of the largest proliferators of doo wop groups in the 50s

  • wow.....this is awesome! Thanks for sharing.

  • This is clean! Never heard gospel music like this before!

  • Yeah it's a killer tune

  • Excellent, raw spiritual laced with doo wop righteousness!

  • Amen!

  • Great find! This one's going on the want list. THANKS PJ!

  • No problem.. Glad I could help :)

  • thats beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Glad you think so

  • Top tune...praise the lord !!!,.ktf.

  • Amen

  • Nice. Is Gospel a Savoy subsidiary label?

  • Yes it is

  • this is some good stuff!!

  • I agree. Thank you

  • Thanks man.
