@rhoads83j No. If Your eyes are disturbed, nearly blinded by the spotlights, useful to wear sunglasses on stage. (I never wear sunglasses in sunshine, can,t stand while driving, but - very long ago - used sometimes on stages.)
cant wait for the show in April, in Blackpool....JB is surely one of the most under rated guitarist of all time, he should be named with the rest of em....keep on rockin
Word can not describe how this performance makes me feel. I wonder what was going through Bonamassa's mind while playing this because damn it, this is so emotive. His heart and soul is in this one!
Somebody wrote on one of these Sloe Gin pages that this version is "one of Joe's best." If there is a better one anywhere on Youtube or anywhere else, please let me know ASAP... Seriously...
First caught this tune on Jango.com & had to stop what I was doing to take it in. Learned from Google the song was actually written for Tim Curry back in the 70s -- yeah, Tim Curry who played FrankNFurter in Rocky Horror! I used to emcee a cabaret show back then and did one of Frank's numbers in drag. Show was a big hit, but I didn't get laid once for months afterwards. Sure wish I'd known about "Sloe Gin" and done it, instead. Woulda been a whole different story, I'm sure... ;-P
I actually saw Joe just a few years ago at a local Mexican restaurant and wrote him off as yet another overhyped SRV wannabee. Man, was I ever wrong... White boy has a boatload of soul. He channels Mark Knopfler's "Telegraph Road/Planet of New Orleans," Peter Frampton's "Lines on my Head," Jeff Beck's "Cause We Ended as Lovers" and a host of others in this one song, and then adds his own unique JuJu. One of the best, if not BEST blues tune I've heard -- and I been listenin' for 50 years...
What a great gift he has,so glad he decided to take this path in his life,he is a phenomenon, everyday I find another one of his song that I can't believe is so perfect. I Love them all, keep them coming Joe!
I'm embarrassed to say this is the first time I have ever heard this guy play. The only way I know his name is because Epiphone has a signature guitar. What's his story?
@robiandolo He may just be one of the best guitar players to ever live. The fact that rolling stone doesn't recognize him makes it all the more evident.
@vetteguy1985 After I wrote the comment I checked out his Bio. Wow, he played with BB King at 8YO. Boy, now I know I suck. LOL! Impressive resume for a young guy. I'm gonna check out more of his stuff. I like your Rolling Stone comment. do they still do music or just spew their opinion at the reader?
@robiandolo his story is this: at age 5 he watched Clapton (i think) play at the Royal Albert Hall. He was so struck by it that he chose to become a guitar player. He player so much his parents had to FORCE him out of the house and do something else
FFW few years, he is on a stage playing with B,B,King just to give you an idea how much potential this kid had
Right now, at age 33 he is one of the most talented and respected guitar player around
fantastic song ,fantastic solo,i love his playing but i think some of you guys need to listen to KWSand philip sayce before hailing him as the new messiah ,he's one of a few amazing blues rock guitarists at the moment who are fantastic ,i have played for a long time myself ,but lost the feel for guitar music for a while when nirvana and oasis hit town so lets be thankfull there are guys like this around to keep this music alive and kicking
@nami4549 I'm 99% sure they are "Maui Jim".... I have the same pair. VERY comfortable and light as a feather...Dee Snider wears they as well. Not cheap though, I paid $250 for mine.
@kenjajesfeelit sometimes it's better to give it your own touch you know. He doesn't seem like the guy who swears, even less in Royal Albert Hall infront of a mature audience.
Great heart and fluid playing....he has my vote as he plays from the heart and has great touch and I like his voice.....he has a deep soul and it reflects in his playing...... a breathe of fresh air so to speak. He lets himself be on the crest of the breaking wave allowing the gift to come trhough and married to all of his hard work over the years the result is a sweet magic.
Joe is geat! But; I keep waiting for someone to point out that Joe sounds like a slower, less talented, less evolved Gary Moore. No offense to Joe meant. Gary was simply the best Rock-Blues player ever.
@johnnylance are you joking man?! look for Gary Moore's live shows...i think that 80% is so poor comparing it to record version. Joe is genius, he doesn't tweedle without melody like Gary live, he builds beautiful melodies during solo.
Simply tremendous. The first time that I saw Joe was at a new year's eve party, and the host played a dvd from Royal Albert Hall. Been watching him and group on you tube every night since.Awesome to say the least.
I never heard of this guy. Then suddenly he is revealed as this major blues artist. I denied this idea for several tunes, and finally was able to acknowledge Joe as THE authentic Blues guy, with reasons to feal the usual reasons for fealing the blues (there are so many). May he continue with his explorations into the psyche.
If you are alive... You can feel thus man's soul through every note.. the Les Paul can as it sings 'til you hear it cry from its very soul.. Amen to the blues!
I hate to say anything mean in any way. We lost Gary Moore who was just killer, but as I watch Joe here....well as one falls another will pickup the flag and carry on, am I being a jerk by saying that he is carrying on what I think Gary would be doing.
never heard a better guitar tone- odd, i hear every detail note - not like he is a mimic man of Robben Ford or Eric Johnson.Mr.Steve Morse would shake this kids world, note for note.Tone is great- but i feel no soul.Yes -i saw him with B.B.as a side kick.If 1996 is about that time- let me know
As usual - silly postings that have nothing to do with Joe and his abilities. I regret that I didn't see him in town (Ottawa) last year, but sure as hell will should he appear in town in 2012. I'll bring all of my (several) friends and cheer like crazy, whether Clapton is there or not.
I have a total respect for this man, and what I would call a "subtle overdriven" technique for the blues. His stuff as a twelve year old pales into insignificance when it comes to the here and now.

This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Too many 'I's and first person references in the lyrics. Song suffers and the guitar's over processed. Rory Gallagher's his big influence? Where's the open tunings, slide and finger techniques? And I'm tiring of the Guitar Player Magazine spam I'm getting with Joe Bonamassa in each and every link. Who's paying for this publicity?
@skillguitar Listen to the song sir. Do the lyrics stand on their own in a poem? Is there any political or communal importance or relevance? Self absorbed prattle.
Who in hell can say that they dislike this guy? sixteen people got to be fools, he is so smooth and soulfull. I first heard Joe Bonamassa about a year and a half, maybe two years ago and I,ve been a fan ever since. Love your show.
I've seen the 14-year old Joe under the guidance of Blues elders, and totally get his influence of the English blues scene, the riffs, and the BIG amps. This started in the 60s, and will not relent until the death of the last Boomer. Hope it's me!
hes absolutly amazing dont get me wrong. but hes also kind of a rip off artist. has no one noticed he got his tone and all of his licks from clapton, frampton, eric johnson, bb and albert king. he does have his own style ill give him that
Sorry, yall, but this is posing. Very fluid, million dollar posing. He's a cool as hell guitar freak, but this performance is unconvincing. Although the same was probably said of Frampton Comes Alive. Who knows. Great tone.
@Brennansdad "Sorry, yall, but this is posing." Not everyone gets this....I do..I saw JoeBlomammsa live well before RAH....he was playing on the back of a trailer....Posing = It was never said about Frampton...he had all the chicks, the licks, the tricks....good songs...and hair...and all the dudes dug his sound in the 70's too....Joe always reminds me of the line from the Simpson's "Your playing, while technically proficient, lacks passion." He hits the Boss Delay - no good songs.
@Brennansdad you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Posing? This man runs his own record label, and played for BB king when he was 12. There is so much soul in his playing... I feel sorry for you if you can't recognize it. You don't deserve to listen to his music.
i find it so gay,, tbh,,a ripped off wannabe

@kd350 Dude.. are you messed up in the head or something? You're talking total nonsense..

@skillguitar Listen to the song sir. Do the lyrics stand on their own in a poem? Is there any political or communal importance or relevance? Self absorbed prattle.

When Joe started to play less notes per second it started to sound like great peace of music :) Awesome!

A master craftsman plies his trade in where else but the A hall, what more could you ask for Brilliant

WOW! I do love those guitarists where you only need to listen to one note, and instantly you'll be able to tell who's playing.
