I have had my Orbis for a few weeks and I love the results,,, However I agree that it is not easy to handle, keeping my SB800 from falling to the floor and zooming with the other hand while trying not to drop the camera... look forward to a fix!
Thanks for your question, you raise a good point. Please take a look at the blog (see the Info panel for the URL) where i'll post your question and a full response; this issue is too important to squeeze into a small comment box.
hi CVH, the lens tunnel diameter is 86mm wide, so the orbis™ will work really well with the tokina 11-16mm which has a 77mm filter. i haven't used it much with a fisheye, but i'd imagine you'd get some really cool results.
Just got one for my wife. She loves it and it works excellent. We use it with our SB28 and have had zero problems. Let the plastic warm up before you try to put your flash in though. I could see it maybe cracking if the casing was too cold. For $170 you cannot go wrong with the orbis. Awesome product. I hope you add some technique videos as well.
hand holding is just so much retarted. Why cant the manufacturer device a thin metal arm to hold the flash on one end and screw the other end on the tripod stand socket under the camera?
Hmm...that's really odd they don't have some kind of lens mount. Guess you could have some soft foam rings that go over the lens...then the ring could fit snugly over the foam ring. Hey if they do that, that's my idea and it's patent pending right now!
dont always have a clear area to put down equipt without getting ruined. plus it wasts too much time. anyone in this business knows time is money.. poor design should have a mounting bracket (like jon0711 said) quality as seen isnt much diffrent then other ringflashes
the one thing i noticed right away from watching this video is anyone who have used a 1ds with 70-200 is lens is the camera is a tank! you def need 2 hands on the camera between the weight of a long shoot and the other hand to adjust camera settings and zoom. so the question i have is.. what am i supposed to do everytime an adjustment is needed to be made with the camera put down the ringflash?
What bothers me the most is that there is no mechanism to mount the rig flash with flash to the base of a camera. This would in my opinion make it a lot more stable and easier to handle vs using 1 hand for the ring flash and the other on the camera, very clumsy and too easy for camera shake. All it may take is another bar with a mount of some sort for the flash extending back to the base of the camera. Not having the ring flash is difficult to explain in detail.
hi hutdockz, i just checked; because of the unusual fixed lens hood, the 14-24 doesn't fit in a conventional sense. the good news, though, is that if the 14-24 is crucial for your shot, you can fit the orbis™ from the back of the lens before attaching it to your camera body. you'll need to use aufo focus but you can still access the zoom ring. hope this helps !
I had never thought it possible to fall in love with my flash LOL now the husband sleeps in the living room .. kidding :D
Honestly it has improved my shots out of sight!
On another note, I had a giggle watching this vid the subtitles OMG! much more Porn!! @ 1:21 LMAO
sorry,.. the subtitles have to go! :D

I was not impressed. You need three hands to be able to use it and work the lens, it always threatened to fall off the flash.
Depending on what lens you're working with, it'll hit
the auto focus button. You could be well into several shots before you realize that you're on manual focus. Unless, the redesign is AMAZING
I'd say keep your money in your pocket!

You see through the lens on an SLR, not a rangefinder window.

One thin g I tried is putting the camera on a tripod when using my 70-200.
