This guy was the closest thing next to Perry. Kudos for Journey for picking a then suitable replacement for Perry. As far as the current singer, not even close.
P.S. I wish Foreigner would do the same but it seems like Mick Jones is interested in choosing 50 year olds who look good in skinny jeans than being able to sing like Lou Gramm who I miss immensely as the lead singer. Just my opinion.
Perry made the songs famous, and Augeri respects that. He makes the songs his own without trying to lose the familiarity of the original recordings. Gotta respect him; Augeri is good.

I definitely prefer Augeri over Pineda. Quite frankly I think Pineda tries to hard to be a copy cat to Steve Perry and holds his notes far too long, it's annoying. With Augeri, granted he probably sounds closest to Perry but you can watch him knowing it's a brand new singer, to me Pineda thinks he is Perry. To me, Arnel is to Perry what the current AC/DC singer is to Bonn Scott. The original guy in each case was the better singer, noticeably. But the latest guy is good enough to keep the band alive and healthy. That's enough for me.

I aaw Journey in 99' with Augeri..I was shocked when they opened up with Separate Ways and he was pretty much a dead ringer for Perry. I just saw them in Denver last summer with Arnel and honestly I thought he was ok...but he was definately not in the same league with Perry or Augeri. I have never seen Journey with Steve Perry and I hope and pray maybe one day they will reunite for one final tour. Now, that would be a concert of a lifetime for me!
WOW this guy can really sing, so can Arnel, and Perry, yea sure Perry is better then them by far, but NONE OF US CAN SING LIKE THESE GUYS, THEY ARE ALL GREAT AT WHAT THEY DO :) And they all have really great voices.

I think Augeri is a very good singer, Pineda is a great singer but lets face Perry is the original and imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Seriously I'm glad they keep getting singers that sound A LOT like Perry because that is the sound of Journey. Truly a great band of the 80's brings back lots of memories from those school dances from the greatest decade.
Never realized Journey had so many fans that take turns hating the various lead singers. This one's good - that one's bad blah blah blah. The band finds the best singer they can find and they go with him - enjoy the music or pick a different band to listen to. Just admit that they can all sing and get over obsessing with one particular singer.
Steve Perry will always be "The Voice" and the true lead singer of the band. More recently, I heard Arnel and he is very good but as someone else said, he does try too hard to be like Steve Perry and mimic him. I heard Steve Augeri after I heard Arnel Pineda and I have to say that Augeri is better because he didn't directly try to impersonate Steve Perry's voice. He brought a new sound to the band...Arnel is doing the same but not in a way that long time Journey fans are necessarily keen to.

@poptartsandburgers ya auguri did sound alot like perry, but he didn't try and copy em, he went with a higher pitch in voice where perrys was a lil more rugged.
I think both are amazing singers and did journey proud. The hell with arnel. The hell are you trying to hit a high note like auguri and perry when you have no where near the right vocal cords for it.
I really liked Steve Augeri. Not only did he do justice to Perry's songs but he also brought songwriting dynamics into the mix as well. He wasn't just a sound alike, the band seemed to actually musically grow. I liked the harder edge that many of the songs took on. While I mean no disrespect to Arnel, it bothers me that the band seemas to just forget everything that Steve A. did. None of the Augeri material is performed anymore, and it seems like they're just rehashing the Perry era.

I'm a big journey sucks but it really sucks because their songs are taking its toll on the singers.Steve Perry and Augeri lost their voice, and Arnels voice is starting to crack.I don't want to compare anymore because ultimately they all have to retire at one point in time.Just give this guys credit for continuing "the Journey".Although I want to see them more on stage,I just hope they won't tour that much so they could preserve what they have now.

WOW this guy can really sing, so can Arnel, and Perry, yea sure Perry is better then them by far, but NONE OF US CAN SING LIKE THESE GUYS, THEY ARE ALL GREAT AT WHAT THEY DO :) And they all have really great voices.

I used to be a fan from Journey, actually I went to several concerts (las vegas, colorado, el paso tx), but after they fired Steve Augeri, and replace him with the new singer Amel, I will never going to buy their music or going to any concert because they're not Journey anymore. What a shame.

I think Augeri is a very good singer, Pineda is a great singer but lets face Perry is the original and imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Seriously I'm glad they keep getting singers that sound A LOT like Perry because that is the sound of Journey. Truly a great band of the 80's brings back lots of memories from those school dances from the greatest decade.

Never realized Journey had so many fans that take turns hating the various lead singers. This one's good - that one's bad blah blah blah. The band finds the best singer they can find and they go with him - enjoy the music or pick a different band to listen to. Just admit that they can all sing and get over obsessing with one particular singer.

Steve Perry will always be "The Voice" and the true lead singer of the band. More recently, I heard Arnel and he is very good but as someone else said, he does try too hard to be like Steve Perry and mimic him. I heard Steve Augeri after I heard Arnel Pineda and I have to say that Augeri is better because he didn't directly try to impersonate Steve Perry's voice. He brought a new sound to the band...Arnel is doing the same but not in a way that long time Journey fans are necessarily keen to.

@poptartsandburgers ya auguri did sound alot like perry, but he didn't try and copy em, he went with a higher pitch in voice where perrys was a lil more rugged.
I think both are amazing singers and did journey proud. The hell with arnel. The hell are you trying to hit a high note like auguri and perry when you have no where near the right vocal cords for it.

I really liked Steve Augeri. Not only did he do justice to Perry's songs but he also brought songwriting dynamics into the mix as well. He wasn't just a sound alike, the band seemed to actually musically grow. I liked the harder edge that many of the songs took on. While I mean no disrespect to Arnel, it bothers me that the band seemas to just forget everything that Steve A. did. None of the Augeri material is performed anymore, and it seems like they're just rehashing the Perry era.

Perry=One and only.Augeri=Very Good.JSS=Class.Pineda=Can sing but tries too hard.Unfortunately Never seen Journey with Perry but seen all the others.Just be thankfull for such great music.

I respect augeri he's a good guy and a good song writer but pineda in my opinion is a better singer though this guy truly has range but he sounds as if he's on autotune.pineda has more soul and emotion taking up the ballads and is not ducking the high notes.steve perry is a different story

Steve Augeri is hard to beat. His performance on this video clip is awesome. Perry was amazing, but Augeri, in my opinion, was out of this world.

I'm a big journey sucks but it really sucks because their songs are taking its toll on the singers.Steve Perry and Augeri lost their voice, and Arnels voice is starting to crack.I don't want to compare anymore because ultimately they all have to retire at one point in time.Just give this guys credit for continuing "the Journey".Although I want to see them more on stage,I just hope they won't tour that much so they could preserve what they have now.

His voice is too high, and unless he's singing you can't understand a word he says! Augeri's voice pitch was a perfect it to replace Perry.
I just hope Arnel quits, crokes, or is fired because Neal said in a interview that Augeri is next in line for the next frontman when needed!
