from what i remember reading a while ago, Alex Ross uses big watercolor sheets, and gauche paints (which are like watercolors)
with Paolo Rivera, i'm not 100% sure but i think he uses Brsitol board, and probably uses acrylic if he's painting on Bristol, those paints won't eat the paper
but as they both say, it's not about the tools being used, it's about the finished prouct, you could use cardboard if you want, the trick is to do it
one thing that helped me was to learn to mix my colors, and to learn to see your subject and be able to break it down, i don't necesarily look for values but more patterns of colors and shapes
then it's just like putting a puzzle together, one color shape next to another.
thank you! that was my first video, i learned so much from it, from camera positioning, to having freakin memory available on my computer!! we learn as we go
i used a pencil, it was a 4B lead, then i put a thin wash of color over it, it did erase most of the drawing, but left enough for me to still see, the drawing was mainly used to give me an idea of the position of the figure, after that, it was nothing but paint
thanks! i used the song because it had the words "Joker" in it, i've tried using acrylics, they dry up to fast, maybe with some more practice, i like using oils, i like the way they blend, and everything, i might give acrylics a try someday
oh ok cool... i find it hard to paint with oils... i find it very thick and hard to wash from your brush... but yours is just flowey and acrylic like...

i want to start oildpainting could you upload any how to's?
Darius12235 3 years ago
wow, a how to,
i might be able to do something,
one thing that helped me was to learn to mix my colors, and to learn to see your subject and be able to break it down, i don't necesarily look for values but more patterns of colors and shapes
then it's just like putting a puzzle together, one color shape next to another.
something else i recommend is to just do it,
start a painting about anything and
adjust and correct as you go
what better way to learn than by trial and error
