@SONGSTICKS Yes you can sample any kind of sounds into the Korg ES-1. The Korg ES-1 is old now, the Korg ESX is the sampler groovebox these days. But there are other samplers out there on the market, you may want to consider. Alesis and Roland also do samplers, and some are cheaper to buy than the Korg ESX too. The main problem with the ES-1 is it is hard to find the memory cards for them. So you can't expand the memory too much. Otherwise the ES-1 is still a great sampler that is fun to use.
@SONGSTICKS If you do find a cheap ES-1, I would still recommend you buy one. There are limitations to the box, but truthfully you are only limited to your own imagination. Drum loops can be layered through re-sampling to create more complex patterns. You could turn your ES-1 into a 909, 808, 727 and 606 and still have loads of memory leftover for other sounds too. Programming melodies into the ES-1 isn't hard either, so you can make stand alone tracks from the individual unit too.
I have an E-mu ESI-32 rack mounted Sampler, which is excellent, but not terribly portable ! especially as it needs a SCSI disc drive and fat chunky cable which is why I have a hankering for an Electribe.
another question though.. do the Electribes have midi out? so that they can be used to sequence rack synths too? If so, that sells it for me ! :)

@SONGSTICKS Yes all the Korg Electribes have full midi support. The ES-1 has In, Out and Thru. So you can easily link other Electribes and modules together. The only Electribe that doesn't have midi support is the Korg Monotribe, which has caused a lot of controversy in music circles. Synchronization is achieved by sending a click track to the Monotribe.
I'm surprised about the Monotribe, The little Kaossilator is a neat little box of tricks and likewise the monotron, but neither have midi clock. I would have thought Korg would have corrected this failing in the Monotribe !!
I reckon sales will suffer greatly because of it.
@SONGSTICKS It is strange why they didn't feature midi on the Monotribe. I know Korg always want to create new ideas. But truthfully they should just re-release the older Electribes again. I don't think the Monotribe will suffer too much in sales, there are quite a few videos already on youtube. I think if the Monotribe had a 16 step sequencer, a few more drum sounds, some reverb and delay, more memory to store patterns and of course full midi support. It would be a classic in the making.
@aikighost Actually it was supposed to sound like that, to create a more techno style vibe. So it is not out of tune, neither was it bad production on my part. Like you said, it was to make a more "on edge" feel to the music.
Pretty awesome aside from a few parts that are badly out of tune. Are you programming/creating your synth leads chromatically with the pitch knob on the ES-1?
