  • Played this for a concert its soo beautiful and the story behind it makes it worth listening too

  • We played this for graduation too... I love this song more than any other one I've EVER played.

  • I also played this for honor band. Goodness, I've never reacted so strongly to a piece...I wanna sit down and cry every time I listen to it. Man, I miss Starnes...

  • I just played this for WKU Honor Band. I just love this song, I was choking up while performing it. Especially when you know the story behind it. It's so sad and beautiful.

  • @Kelseyish what is the story? I'm going to play this song with my band, and i think its amazing, but i don't know the story.

  • @330fenix It was about this dad of a flute player that my conductor, Mr. Starnes the rest of his band knew. He was a electrician. On the way to work, he was captured by the al qaeda. he wasn't even in the war...They threatened to kill him and a few others if Pres.Bush didn't release certain criminals. When it got down to just Jack, Bush said he didn't give into terrorists attacks and they shot the dad. It's really sad, but the piece is so beautiful and is to commemorate the memory of the dad. :)

  • @Kelseyish wow, that's terrible. that shows you how messed up the earth is today.

  • Richard Saucedo is my band director at Western Kentucky University for Honors Band. the story behind this song is really sad.

  • @The3rdTrumpet Hey I just got back from that too ha ha. We were in the band that played that one, Starnes'. He told us the story during rehearsal right before we sightread it, I've never seen so many people cry over a song before.

  • @BottleTheSun I was there to man! this was my favorite piece we played by far, plus Starnes was pretty frikin awesome.

  • Grade 3? I think it's much harder than that... with all the blending and trying to play all those open 5th intervals...

  • I love playing this song at band <3 Makes us all become the one instrument, you know?

  • i can listen to this song all day :3
