Terry Gross has done more to publicize and popularize the arts than anybody else I know. Good acceptance talk, good to see her spread the glory around, also. You can't do a show with the quality of Fresh Air without a great team behind the star.
...I totally had a different image of her in my head too...I am stunned! But her voice and caliber surpasses her looks...LOVE you TERR! Keep up the good work...
@baiNEKO Funny you mentioned that... I was thinking almost the same. Terry sounds pretty cool, but in a geeky way on her show... Ira sometimes sounds like a spoiled college brat on his show (which I love, but just can't stand the inflection of his voice) but is hilarious when you see him. Both entertain me daily - - and really draw me in to what they do so well.
She has dedicated the past 3 years to promoting can't write to save his life, misogynist and racist Seth Rogen's cinema, while not once standing up for the female talent Hollywood is out to destroy.
Fresh Air broke the record on pro active promotion of "Knocked Up". A sexist, unfunny piece of crap.
Wow I had no idea that's what she looks like! I had such a different idea in my head...I love Terry Gross. She is my favorite interviewer and favorite host on NPR.
yes, Terry Gross is awesome, but I don't think she or anyone needs awards. How about Best Cashier of New jersey or Best 7-11 Manager of Southern States?
pearlyriver, honestly, Terry Gross doesn't have much of an "accent." She did grow up in New York (Manhattan), but she certainly doesn't have the classic "New York" accent. She speaks relatively neutrally-accented American English.
A "Yankee" accent? I'm not sure what that means. No one in the U.S. would ever use such a phrase. Maybe you meant a New England accent? A New York accent and a New England accent are very different. At least, it seems so to someone born in the U.S.
But yes, a "CNN accent" is one that's relatively neutral in terms of pronounciation or inflection.
Umm ... You didn't write anything offensive. So ... ????
Anyway, Terry Gross doesn't really have an "accent" as such. This is somewhat standard for American broadcasters. Some of them (so I've heard) who begin their careers speaking with a strong regional accent (New York, New England, Mid-West, Mid-Atlantic, Southern), actually take classes in order to learn how to decrease their accents and make their speaking voice more "neutral."
She is one of my favorite journalists. I've been listening to Fresh Air for decades, and sort of built a mental image of her in my head. This is the first time I've seen her face, and it's so different from what I had pictured that it's kind of wierd to watch, like a dubbed movie.
Glad to see Terry!! That's a huge medal she's earned. She's amazing. Honest and humble and just so smart. Sharing her award w/her staff (by name) and w/the great writers she's interviewed--wodnerful!!! Thanks for posting.

@colemankj Same man, she sounds like early 30s and decently attractive on the radio. Weird.

Terry Gross is brilliant. I longed for a second season of her MTV hit show "The Assistant." It was funny, witty and heartfelt. Go, Terry!

Surrounded by crates of books?! That sounds like heaven to me. I can read a book a day (and do); Can I have a part behind the scenes of the show?

Three cheers for Terry Gross!
Her habit of going for the substance of issues is something all
wanna be NPRNews reporters should study.
Because,
you sure wont find much worthwhile inspiration among the regular NPRNews crew.
My complaint being their inclination of focusing on the facade...
~> rather than looking behind the curtain where the true action is happening.
~~>> Terry Gross can show you the way to getting at the substance of the issue!

thanks bapyou. I guess so. I hear that New Yorkers have a Yankee accent, but Terry's accent sounds quite like CNN accent to me.
