I absolutely love all the Ys games. Definitely was happy to see both 1&2 on the VC.
Now all I need to see are the other Ys games on the VC and possibly ports of Oath in Felghana and Ys Origins for the PSP or the PSN! It'd be a godsend to finally play Ys Origins translated :(
Personally, I'm pretty dissapointed with this game.
All the reviews I've seen were basically perfect 5/5 or 10/10, but the gameplay is horrible. You pretty much just walk around, and you damage enemies by touching them. Although it was cheap(only $8), I'm kinda regretting my purchase.
I'll play some more to see if it gets better, though
I have this for the sega Master system but some of the names are wrong, Adol was called Aron and Darm tower was known as tower of the doomed as well as a few other things.
It all depends on the translation you make. In most translations the main character is named Adol, even in the japanese versions. Darm is occasionally translated as "Dahm" but the tower is always "Darm Tower" or "Dahm Tower."
All thanks to CD-ROM. Most of the music was stored as redbook audio on the CD. Basically the game is loaded into the system RAM, than the CD drive starts playing the music just like a regular audio CD.
Adol was always so much cooler than Link in my opinion, Adol didn't need divine fate to make him save the world, just his horrible luck with boats to put him in the right place at the right time.
I just played this game last year, and I loved every minute of it.

Definitely! In Y's II you can even attack from a distance thanks to a few magic spells.

I've loved Ys games since Snes. Ys3 back in the early 90's has been, and always will be, one of my favourite games of all time.

It's hard to really be "stuck" in Darm Tower, since the majority of Ys 1 takes place there. ;)

My, the audio in the intro is spectacular. You wouldn't think such an old system could generate such clarity. And I agree, it's a nice intro.

@gtf234
Didn't Link wash up on Koholint Island due to horrible luck with boats?
