Eddie must (hopefully) know that a "berliner" in Berlin means - obviously - a native Berliner.

Only in western Germany does the word mean "doughnut".

JFK was right on in this case.

Proper german would have been "Ich bin Berliner." The article "ein" evokes an object, and since a berliner is also a (jam-filled) pastry, "Ich bin ein Berliner" sounds funny. Obviously the people of Berlin still understood what JFK meant.

eddie was actually right.. i mean whe u say ich bin Berliner u are saying u are from berlin.... but wher u add the "ein" it imediatelly becomes in a doughnut... gramatic in germany it's complicated... but they are rly estrict with that
