  • Nice movie, sweet music. Me and sony is a past, now I preffered other cam.

  • It looks like there where some studio lights present....and then in editing the light was turned down to low lol. FYI Im an ammature videographer planning to purchase the hdr-xr160 as my entry level camera. I have researched alot and believe it will be a great camera

  • Impressive quality.

  • Real good quality. Erm golf???? B O R I N G.

  • Does this have nightshot????

  • Cool video man.

  • I use this camera and the 240gb comes in handy. In fact I've had to buy several external hard drives in order to keep up. 1080I means you might have to deinterlace footage. I actually don't like the low light setting, makes blacks a little pixelated with minor noise. Get a two maximum capacity batteries and watch out for buffer overflow when shooting loud concerts or music footage.

  • Impressive, very clear for night recording. Have you filmed any gigs? I am looking for a camera that records loud ambient audio well without distorting, the camera I have right now it terrible!

  • hows the slow motion for this camera?

  • Thanks for the vid - nice time you have there ;) some questions that i have:

    1. Wide angle in some shots is pretty poor /lot of chromatic aberation/ did you use any conventer or is it sony 520's wide lens?

    2. What kind of shutter/mode did you use?

    3. Are you able to set shutter to 25p?

  • w8t for the 550 with 3 stability corrector :D

    peace

  • low lux mode?

  • Great video, and great song. Song is from album Cafe del mar, and its "another day", chek Itunes store. Thinking very seriously about buying one sony

  • Just bought this camera today in Oz for $1,500. Got it at Harvey Norman....sales guy made a mistake underquoting but he & the manager honoured it. Just shot some night time footage in teh full moon and its impressive. Shooting night shots with the normal setting (not low lux or nightshot) gives the best low noise picture.

  • Sad to say you were cheated. The improved 550v was released in early March for even less than what you paid for your 520. Your camera was discontinued and put on clearance at most retailers months ago, so you should have paid no more than $1000 for it.

  • what is the shutter speed in this clip and what mode was it shot in - low lux???

  • Can you do a comparision against Canon HFS11 vs XR520V on focus? Cause this XR520V just take too long to focus:(

  • light and Motion makes a beautiful underwater housing for this camera that allows you to control lots of the manual functions...

  • Nice video, at night camera is good

@markpay what do you rate this camera at night and over all

  • good TEST !

  • do u know if they have a water proof case for this camera ?

  • Sorry don't know

  • yes

    Model SPK-HCE

  • thanks imneo1 , I just when an looked it up on youtube an found it, thanks again

  • yeah, there is some guy in ebay that sell that, I watched few minutes ago

  • Put it in a zip-lock bag. Works great to 80 feet.

  • send me a video of you doing that to your camera please

  • I have to give it time to dry out, then I will.

  • @Restarea11019V yes there's a water proof housing made by sony, which caters for a range of camcorders... i think it's only 5 or 10 meters though

  • @mattperthwa cool, but i will go cheap an buy me that Sony bloggie camera its small an records in HD , i could allways wrap it up when out side in the rain for out door sports

  • @Restarea11019V Hey Restarea, I'm not sure if you've already got your camera yet, but there's a few point and shoot cameras around that are waterproof and shoot HD video... might be worth looking into them. I'm pretty sure Sony and Lumix make them. Really good for taking on holidays - compact waterproof hd in your pocket :)

  • @Restarea11019V they do

  • Very awesome video quality from this HDR-XR520! I wish Tiger Wood will be in this film and that will be the best ever!

  • a very good video!

  • bromance at night =D

  • Dalemccl-Great question. Given the footage was shot in the "standard" mode versus the "low lux" mode, I would describe the footage as an accurate representation of how it appeared to the naked eye. Of course no video camera is going to have the dynamic range of the human eye, so I would say the blacks are slightly darker and the whites are slightly brighter. Certainly if the "low lux" mode was engaged, the whole image would appear brighter or more well lit than my eye would perceive.

  • hii mark could u tell me any best hd cam with image stablization night mode and with high zooming capacity???

  • Did the camcorder record the scene as brighter than it actually looked to your eyes at the time?

  • Great - gave mi a nice view of sharpnes

A very nice mashine - good Test and realy relaxin tune

  • lights not low enough!!!

  • forget the camera! I love that song!! It's so cool calming, and relaxing... just makes you want to watch the whole video over again, beause of the song! What's the name of that song??

  • no,no,no very very nasty wide lens... the edges are unacceptable...

pity destroyed all the beauty of the camera

  • The low lux mode was not on, it was in the STD position, Steadyshot was in Active mode.

Have you found a decent 37mm Wide Angle lens yet for your 500? If so what make?

  • A couple of questions: Did you have the low lux mode on (switch on side of camcorder)? Because it looks like that function was off.

Also, did you have the Active mode of Steadyshot on?

  • Wow, works great in low light, no grain at all.

  • Very nice test. Would you recommend the HDR XR520? Or, is there another camcorder that you prefer? Thank you.

  • Yes, I would recommend the HDR XR 520. The quality of the image stabiliser and the low light performance has to be seen to be believed. I was prepared to spend alot more money to get the results that the xr520 achieves.

  • I like the bokeh, it's not that rhombic shape... I think I gonna buy that thing.

    But you've used a wideangle-converter, do you?
