@lambovinnie Mig-29 is much more maneuverable and better at visual range air combat than the F/A-18, while the F/A-18 has better avionics and is better at beyond visual range combat, although most air combat takes place in visual range. Really the F/A-18 is not that good at anything, but it's not entirely bad at everything either.
@johan404 Alot people don't know the hornet is our most agile fighter especially at low speed encounters. When the Indian airforce used their mig-29s in mock dogfights they lost because the hornet out maneuvered the mig 29s. The Canadians won the world topgun competition using the hornet. I love the mig though.

Mig29 was an excellent aircraft for the time, but its not the best in the world by any measure.
As an aside, f-18 can carry almost twice the weight in ordnance and has two more hardpoints than mig-29, giving the hornet an advantage in the range of missions it can achieve.
@ethanwebs It is difficult to compare Mig-29 and F\A-18. They have different classes, sizes and roles. F\A-18, as it seen on its literals (F\A) can be in assaulter role, so offcourse F\A-18 have more payload. Mig-29 is classic fighter plane. Russians always used specialized planes, and the US prefered multi-role planes. Just different tactics.
The f18 is better manuverable, stronger, is a fighter and an assault plane (F/A). In the other side the mig has more thrust, has better missiles, a more powerful cannon and has one thing, instead of pointing the nose to the enemy to lock on the target the pilot has to move only his head. So... it is hard to tell who is better.
@zerocker45 , I think to make a proper statment you would need to be a pilot who has flown both. Both are amazing aircraft in their own right. It also may come down to pilot training not necessarily the hardware. If this were a F-22 against the MIG it would be no compairison because of the technology change. I cant comment on Russian training however, since Vietnam the USA has made there mark on other countries because of its training.

We did however have the largest Naval force and Air Force in world history. The USA did about 90% of the fighting in the Pacific combines naval, air and land and against Germany about 45% of the air campain and 10% of the land compain. The USA also produced vast amounts of food and arms for its allies

@Elfulcrum777 Mig 29 is not useless at all. Its a pretty good airframe.. There are better and there are worse. You are correct about the Tornado however there was no F-16 involved. Your talking about the Iraqi pilot Jameel Sayhood. He shot down that Tornado however two F-15C's jumped Sayhood and his Mig29 wingmen. 2 Mig 29's against 2 F-15c's. 1 MIG 29 was shot down by one of the F-15's AIM 7's and the other was forced into the ground trying to out manouver the F-15.
@bryjb10 yeah the Iraqis usually found themselves out numbered and out gunned i also heard that the MiG-29 in Iraq did not have RWR or long range radar and no ECM and very poor ground control , also they were only carrying outdated R-60 missile not Alamo's or archers so they were not fully equipped, plus USAF had EW and jamming advantages besides the obvious advantage of better missiles and training and well kept planes. you guys were basically handed your prey in this particular war.
@bryjb10 yeah the F-15C was very good, only the Su-27 would have been any match for it, nowadays though EF2000, Su-30 F-22 and F-18 super hornet are better than the Eagle, i highly doubt the F-35 could beat a modernized eagle, its dogfight performance is poor(F-35), look at its stats its actually slower than an old Mig-21, and no more maneuverable than your standard F-16, i think it was a mistake to cancel the raptor in favor of the JSF
@Elfulcrum777, almost F-22's exist and nothing comes close in service. I agree with you about the F-35. I dont agree that the F-18E super hornet is a better platform than the F-15C. The super hornet is a heavy and the F-15C has a few thousand more pounds of thrust. The Superhornet is more of an all around fighter bomber and the F-15C is for Air Defense only. The F15-E model is more apples to apples compairison to the Superhornet. F-15C's dont carry bombs only air to air.

@rolandmik actually they are super similar planes. Difference is not larger than ~2% and that is better on Mig29 side everything. Except Mig29 is really better at maximum speed 2400km/h vs 1900km/h.

Mig 29 Fulcrum has better handling in the air. it can do quicker manouvers.. where the other hand its electronics arent as good as americans.. americans have better targeting and radar systems.. russian planes have always been the benchmark for good dogfighter but it lacks in the electronic department

@lambovinnie Mig-29 is much more maneuverable and better at visual range air combat than the F/A-18, while the F/A-18 has better avionics and is better at beyond visual range combat, although most air combat takes place in visual range. Really the F/A-18 is not that good at anything, but it's not entirely bad at everything either.

When the Indian airforce used their mig-29s in mock dogfights they lost because the hornet out maneuvered the mig 29s. The Canadians won the world topgun competition using the hornet. I love the mig though.

Mig29 was an excellent aircraft for the time, but its not the best in the world by any measure.
As an aside, f-18 can carry almost twice the weight in ordnance and has two more hardpoints than mig-29, giving the hornet an advantage in the range of missions it can achieve.

@ethanwebs It is difficult to compare Mig-29 and F\A-18. They have different classes, sizes and roles. F\A-18, as it seen on its literals (F\A) can be in assaulter role, so offcourse F\A-18 have more payload. Mig-29 is classic fighter plane. Russians always used specialized planes, and the US prefered multi-role planes. Just different tactics.

The f18 is better manuverable, stronger, is a fighter and an assault plane (F/A). In the other side the mig has more thrust, has better missiles, a more powerful cannon and has one thing, instead of pointing the nose to the enemy to lock on the target the pilot has to move only his head. So... it is hard to tell who is better.

@zerocker45 , I think to make a proper statment you would need to be a pilot who has flown both. Both are amazing aircraft in their own right. It also may come down to pilot training not necessarily the hardware. If this were a F-22 against the MIG it would be no compairison because of the technology change. I cant comment on Russian training however, since Vietnam the USA has made there mark on other countries because of its training.

@Elfulcrum777, man you dont know much of anything really. WW2, We did not have the a major fighting army as compared to Germany or Russia but we were involved in significant fighting. We did however have the largest Naval force and Air Force in world history. The USA did about 90% of the fighting in the Pacific combines naval, air and land and against Germany about 45% of the air campain and 10% of the land compain. The USA also produced vast amounts of food and arms for its allies

Your talking about the Iraqi pilot Jameel Sayhood. He shot down that Tornado however two F-15C's jumped Sayhood and his Mig29 wingmen. 2 Mig 29's against 2 F-15c's. 1 MIG 29 was shot down by one of the F-15's AIM 7's and the other was forced into the ground trying to out manouver the F-15.

@bryjb10 yeah the Iraqis usually found themselves out numbered and out gunned i also heard that the MiG-29 in Iraq did not have RWR or long range radar and no ECM and very poor ground control , also they were only carrying outdated R-60 missile not Alamo's or archers so they were not fully equipped, plus USAF had EW and jamming advantages besides the obvious advantage of better missiles and training and well kept planes. you guys were basically handed your prey in this particular war.

@bryjb10 yeah the F-15C was very good, only the Su-27 would have been any match for it, nowadays though EF2000, Su-30 F-22 and F-18 super hornet are better than the Eagle, i highly doubt the F-35 could beat a modernized eagle, its dogfight performance is poor(F-35), look at its stats its actually slower than an old Mig-21, and no more maneuverable than your standard F-16, i think it was a mistake to cancel the raptor in favor of the JSF

The super hornet is a heavy and the F-15C has a few thousand more pounds of thrust. The Superhornet is more of an all around fighter bomber and the F-15C is for Air Defense only. The F15-E model is more apples to apples compairison to the Superhornet. F-15C's dont carry bombs only air to air.

@bryjb10 Well perhaps in a dogfight the F-15C is better than the super hornet, id say that in BVR or in terms of avionics they are about equal, except the hornet has more sub-modes, but as you said its a fighter bomber, still both great air craft,

Respond to this video... and another thing had the Serbs been flying new MIG-29 the result would have been different , the MIG-29M has a greater rate of climb and thrust to weight ratio than the F-15 and F-16. the Radar and weapons are equally matched if not greater than the American Rivals the new fly by wire and thrust vector control system gives the Fulcrum M greater agility responsiveness and maneuverability than the F-15 and F-16 and unlike F-15 it can achieve mufti-role tasks

these are some increadably edited shots.... I mean we only see the mig in Lock ON? We don't get to see the Mig cockpit or any action at all. This makes stupid American kids think that the Mig has no chance.Both aircarft are increadible and both have the ability to shoot each other down.
My opinion is not who has the better plane (as these 2 are equal match) but which pilot has more expirience, as always "know your enemy better than your friends".

@rolandmik actually they are super similar planes. Difference is not larger than ~2% and that is better on Mig29 side everything. Except Mig29 is really better at maximum speed 2400km/h vs 1900km/h.
Still had to compare guns, bug guns probably quite better on F18.

@marintoss If the Mig-29 is so great, how come one has never shot down a US built fighter...EVER? Oh, and don't give me usual list of excuses. Those MiG-29 pilots in Iraq and Serbia died in the air fighting F-15s and F-16s. I've flown the MiG-29 several times while in Poland and I will tell you it is a great aircraft with many strong points. But I would not feel confidant fighting against an F-15 in one. The F-15 lives up to its purpose, total air dominance which has yet to be challenged.

Here are the dates, names of the pilots, serial numbers of their F-15s, squadrons the were in, and weapons they used to score the kills. All of these kills were filmed by the HUD cameras and aired on national television. And those F-16s and F-18s were lost to ADA. I work for Naval Intel you ass. I know shit you'll never even hear of.

Mig 29 Fulcrum has better handling in the air. it can do quicker manouvers.. where the other hand its electronics arent as good as americans.. americans have better targeting and radar systems.. russian planes have always been the benchmark for good dogfighter but it lacks in the electronic department
