I don't see the link between the Russian oligarchs and the Russian democrats these seem like two different subjects and yes there was a lot of lawlessness during the early and mid 90's but I don't see too much how that has changed up until now. Corruption is still very high in Russia on all levels as bribes have almost become part of the culture. Putin got very lucky with the fact that the economy started getting better when he took power but the economy had nothing to do with anything he did.
It is the same subject. The present corruption has started in Yeltsin's time and the democrats allowed it to happen and indeed fully participated in a rip off party. Putin, to some extent, has calmed the population by bringing at least some of the offenders to justice. I don't know if the improvment of the economy has to do with luck or work, or both. He certainly managed to appeal to social-christian beliefs of the population about sharing the wealth and shaming the money grabbers.

It is the same subject. The present corruption has started in Yeltsin's time and the democrats allowed it to happen and indeed fully participated in a rip off party. Putin, to some extent, has calmed the population by bringing at least some of the offenders to justice. I don't know if the improvment of the economy has to do with luck or work, or both. He certainly managed to appeal to social-christian beliefs of the population about sharing the wealth and shaming the money grabbers.

Yes but I see Putin as the same type of money grabber who is extremely power hungry and combine that with the fact that he has close ties with the FSB and that makes for a very dangerous combination. It's easy for Russians to look Putin just as it is easy for Americans to like Obama. Putin so far has done very little in my opinion he did get very lucky that currently he has a very smart man as his Finance Minister in Alexei Kudrin and before he had Andrei Illarionov as his personal economic ad.

People don´t just get lucky with the ministers, they choose them, following their common views . I don't see anything dangerous in Putin, he has proved to be consistent in his actions and beliefs. There is nothing wrong with being easily liked, both in Putin's and Obama's case and only time will tell what their legacy will be. So far, the world just became a bit safer after Obama's Moscow visit.

There is no passive verb form of population so people commonly use variants of the word size, as I did. Ex: The US is a lot bigger than Sweden.... though that COULD feasibly refer to land mass, it does not. Anyone who heard that would likely assume I was talking about population, especially with the context to reinforce it. So you jumped to conclusions and were the asshole, not me.

A real leader should lead by example, and what kind of example is he setting by flying a missile sent to destroy, while condemning NK for doing test missiles and telling them they shouldn't have any?
