i'm new to wine...and i don't quite understand the problem with sweet wines...why is that a bad thing.
I enjoy them. I just tried a reisling from California (barefoot) it's super cheap (i'm on a budget) but it was really good. i really enjoyed the flavors.
@cosmosman Barefoot Riesling is really good. Its one of the few wines I still buy in that price range. Sweet is not bad. Riesling is one of those grapes that makes equally good sweet and dry wine. I can tell you as someone who spends 30 to 60 bucks per bottle of wine on a regular basis, Barefoot Riesling is top notch. Its about value. You can find a cheap bottle of wine that tastes better than a $30 bottle... and you can find a $100 bottle that tastes like a $10 bottle. The final judge is you.
@cosmosman When I first started with wine just last year, I also thought rieslings were dry, but I LOVE off-dry or sweet rieslings, that was the first one I had (though I can no longer buy it anymore), however, it doesn't pair easily with food. Also, the acidity can be quite high.
All your wines videos are great , your give all the neeeded information on the subject each and every time, with in a few minutes, keep up the good work. How about some videos on european wine labels, and how to read them?
If you like very dry riesling, Australians and new zealand are doing some very good exemple. there is more flavours of lime and lemon. European riesling are not as spicy as she say and the key point is the minerality.
@moscophilero True. I even tried an older dry riesling (I thought Rieslings generally have a short cellar life), got a bit of kerosene finish, but it isn't actually there.
My favorite is Ice wine, absolutely the best. I was stationed in Germany while in the Air Force and I got to say, If you have not tried Ice wine you are not really living.
the key to drinking the different styles of wine (dry vs. off-dry) is to pair them with food.
