  • FUCK YOU FRED.

  • MimisLost........you really must be! >>>>>> "lost" that is. This is classic Paul Simon

writing and singing songs before you wuz born. lol

  • Thumbs up if you don't care who or what took you here. You just enjoy listening to the song. Fuck those who say gotta be part of this era to like this. Bitch, the internet gives us all instant access to all music. We can choose what to like so how 'bout a big STFU and let me listen to Paul Simon.

  • Thumbs up if you just like this song and don't give a shit.

  • what's with everyone jumping to the conclusion that this song is about homosexuality? remember, he says goodbye to "Rosie, the queen of Corona" maybe he and Julio had sex with an African-American woman (which was also illegal at that time and was also considered "against the will of God" along with homosexuality)

  • @mrnonsense1031

    Very good point man.

  • @mrnonsense1031 lol yes especially considering that there's female type moaning sounds at the end that could or could not be instruments. ;P

  • @mrnonsense1031 Um... There was never a time when it was illegal to have sex with a black woman. No clue where you're going with that one... Anyways, I always thought Mama Pajama saw me and Julio smoking a jay down by the school yard. But, I suppose, that is the magic of this song, the crime is what-ever the listener sees fit.

  • This song is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cool i sing it all the time my friends hate it but no one can knock this knd of music it is simply brilliant and so much better than anything that is modern. I love all of Paul Simon's songs he is amazing!

  • What capo is the fret on?

  • @Litterboxer529 7th fret

  • Jeez... Those who were there when this song came out, good for you but seriously get off your high horses. Good music shouldn't be left to die! Its a good thing popular culture is using great songs like this. Hell the people who did listen to this song when it was released where mostly hippies. What the hell happened to you!!! Peace :).

  • @RiksFunStuff 'Mostly hippies'? Way to generalise bro'.

  • @Geekman333 Heh, generalizing would be if I said they were all hippies, Paul Simons music was created during the time when hippies were a big part of western culture and was seen along with Simon & Garfunkel and such as hippie music. So yeah, mostly hippies!

  • great song!

  • i love this song! i didn't get sent here by any pop artists or anything (though it's not a bad thing if you did) but my dad chucked the album my way cause i also like Simon and Garfunkel. this is probably my favourite of the lot! (and- for the record- i'm 15)

  • Check this out on sournotes1.blogspot.com - My Morning Coffee Break segment

  • thank to my parents for playing this for me

  • I was fortunate to have spent a week of my childhood at my aunt's house, where she introduced me to Paul Simon, it was quite a lovely time. But had I not heard it then, and I had heard it on the Simpsons, I would appreciate it just as much, just with less nostalgia.

  • Thumb up if u can pronounce the name Julio as Simon does...

  • julio and i*

  • @orange3543 Actually, it would be me and Julio, as you would say "seeing me down by the school yard," not "seeing I down by the school yard."

  • @jpgrfm88 Actually actually, it's considered improper to put yourself first in such a sentence, so the proper structure would be "seeing Julio and me." (Or, the way the OP has translated, "see you, Julio and me"

  • @MeasuredAffluence You're right, my mistake.

  • Me and *phlem*ulio down by the schoolyard!

  • To be honest this song was stuck in my head at 2 in the morning and now i really want to see the simpsons xmas episode.

  • who gives a crap if this was on the simpsons!!! thumbs up if you agree

  • @stalkerhamster This song was used so well on the Simpsons that it complemented both the show and the song, so suck it

  • thumbs up if you've ever stubbed your toe

  • when I was a kid I lived by a school where I played with my friend Julio. :)

  • Someday I was reading a book and the autor wrote about another author that, when I searched a book of this other author, I was very pleased to read. This is how culture works! You CAN'T know everything that exists until it's presented to you somehow. Simpsons brought some people here, other things brought other people and a great song is spread :)

  • julio and i*

  • sorry hear

  • It really shouldn't matter where someone hears good music as long as they appreciate it.

Unless you were around to here Mozart or Beethoven the first time they played you shouldnt complain.

  • The Simpsons brought me here.

  • @mikhail1970 I dont give a fuck who brought you here! :)

  • @mikhail1970 Awesome episode!

  • Julio brought me here :)

  • Love it :)

  • The Simpsons' Future Christmas!!!!!!!!!

  • @MimisLost ...brought me here :-)

  • You know it Woobibear. Remember it driving to France. Did not like it then. Love it now. As usual my Dad was way ahead of his time. Took me twenty years to realise it. Rob

  • I love you Paul.

    This song is really awesome<3

  • the song toys with subtle, perhaps homoerotic, perhaps not, messages...people at the time (before social media bigots too over) were able to accept and enjoy this clever, nuanced phrasing. simon, the beatles, the stones, david bowie, the kinks, the velvets, pink floyd etc - they all sang songs which gently challenged contemporary mores and mocked sexual convention. bowie went further as the 70s progressed. they paved the way for the smiths, REM, prince and a new, cleverer attitude to sexuality.

  • @uclrichard are you suggesting you think that this kind of music is responsible for how racy music is today?

  • WISH THESE DAYS WHERE TODAYS

  • Me and Julio were pretty tight once. Too bad he went to to juvenile detention. It's a shame he was a terrible liar. :)

  • Love this song, that's why my dog is named Julio

  • Thumbs up if you know the song because you were raised on classic songs, not because some movie, tv show or current day musical artist "brought" you here.

    Sheesh.

  • @WoobiBear Does Streetlight Manifesto's cover count as "current?"

^^^Not being a smartass, just curious.

  • @HmmlolWut Yes

  • @WoobiBear dont take pride on something your parents thought you, they can do it you cant you had to learn it and it doesnt really matter where you heared it what matters is if you appreciate it or not

  • @heallqnco I take pride in the fact that I knew this song by discovering it by myself at a young age and that I do appreciate it. If you didn't read it, it says "raised on classic songs" I listen to more songs from this era of time than my own parents do. Which goes to show, how much I appreciate. I'm sure that other people and I are all just tired of people not being able to think for themselves until media tells them that something is good or popular

  • @WoobiBear my dad plays it a lot, but also from The Simpsons

  • @WoobiBear Well I wasn't raised in this generation but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate music. I didn't hear it from a movie but from a friend who's a fan of Simon and Garfunkel. Just because we're young doesn't mean we're less cool than you :P

  • @WoobiBear Thumbs up if it doesn't matter how you got here, just that you are enjoying yourself now that you are.

  • @WoobiBear who cares where you heard the song, as long as you enjoy it.

  • @WoobiBear why does it matter?you think your smart because you know this song cause of parents, radio, etc?im glad kids and adults get to know this song through any means.your ignorant

    Sheesh

  • @ryler99 I agree with you that it shouldn't matter how people get to know songs, but if you're going to call people ignorant you should check your grammar and spelling first.

  • @WoobiBear

Does it really matter what led someone to discover good music? Just be happy that this sweet little song has retained its popularity and continues to appeal to the younger generations. There's no need to be such a musical snob.

  • @abrandneweira Good point.

  • @WoobiBear Yes. I agree. How DARE people discover good music in a different way then you did!

  • @WoobiBear I was brought here, because my parents LOVE this music...and raised me to enjoy music like this!

  • @WoobiBear I think pop culture referencing songs as good as this is a positive in our society. it shouldn't matter where we find our music, if its good, its good. and that's the only thing that matters. <3

  • @WoobiBear

LOL, pretentious much? Who the f*** cares how people found this song. Let's just be happy they're helping the classics live on.

  • @WoobiBear I wasn't even born until years after this song was popular, so no.

  • @WoobiBear cuz god forbid anyone else listens to this music...

  • @WoobiBear Some people are less fortunate than you are.

  • @WoobiBear

    uh ok

  • @WoobiBear Elitist.

  • @WoobiBear God forbid someone be a fan of Paul Simon and be born outside your generation.

  • @WoobiBear Holy fuck, you're snobby.

  • @WoobiBear Whats wrong with just enjoying a good song? Whats up with the elitist attitude?

  • The new Muppets movie brought me here!!!

  • thumbs up this if The Royal Tenebaums brought you here lol

  • Was so delighted to hear this in the new Muppets movie.

  • How old is this song?

'Cause I've been listening to this since I was like 9 or 10.

    I'm 14.

  • @DamnitHannah yeah, I believe this song is from about 2002

  • @bgreen97

    Awesome, thanks man.

  • @DamnitHannah Naw, sorry, I was being a smart ass douche. This song is actually from 1972

  • its about him and his penis (julio) beatin off to kids in the schoolyard

  • its about pot...

  • i picture kids playing basketball in n,y, when i hear this

  • its funny how fags be wanting everyone else to be gay cause they have issues. how dare anyone put some sick stuff on paul simon like that

  • @rj689 Homophobic much?

  • @rj689 Wow, it's cunts like you that make the world a shit place.

How dare you say being gay means they have issues and saying being a homosexual is sick. It's not a lifestyle choice like dying your hair, it's a part of who someone is. They don't have any fucking choice in the matter. It's 'people', and believe me I'm using that term loosely, like you that make people kill themselves because they can't deal with the hate and abuse for something they can't control. Asshole.

  • @MericiouYamato your mad for what? dum ass its not about what they like im talking about the negative accusation such as putting that on other people when you dont know them personally. i have nothing against gays so shut the fuck up

  • @rj689 I agree with you. But get ready for the hate mail from all the homosexuals out there. Doesn't take much for them to start blowing their top and going insane.

  • @rj689 you're a disgusting individual.

  • @rj689

    Shut up you jackass.

  • 9 people are dumb. That's all I have to say about that...

  • The song was written during tie Vietnam war era and Paul Simon specifically left out the crime so it could be applied to anything. I always interpreted it as they were smoking weed but apparently some people interpret it differently...

  • Paul Simon sounds so cool on this track! I love his enunciation; it's very deliberate and specific.

I definitely interpret this is being about herb, because being gay wasn't/isn't against the law.. just social standards. Understanding that many people associate(d) Mexican names with marijuana (Mexicans brought pot into the US) makes it seem almost intentionally written to a pot reference. Still, it's not that important because it doesn't make up the song's entire premise or anything.

  • @Innocu0us

Actually it was (or is) forbidden in some places at one time,

Oscar wilde was locked up for it in the late 1895 for instance!

But i think your right on the pot, sounds more logical since simon is straight ^_^

  • @Innocu0us Actually gay sex at one time was illegal in every state in the country and still is in some states. But that aside I don't think the song is about gay sex. I've always thought it was was being seen smoking pot or other activity teenagers normally engage in.

  • he's a good guy this Paul kid

  • dead wrong fag, quit projecting, it's about smoking herb.

  • like all the best music, its open to interpretation. i believe it to be about homosexuality because of the mention of the radical priest coming to release him, likely radical because of his acceptance of gays. the priest would be irrelevant were they getting stoned.

  • im catching up on my paul simon and i am THOROUGHLY enjoying the experience

  • its a good song nonetheless so just listen

  • LOVE PAUL SIMON

    THANKS

  • im scared to be this happy

  • they were getting stone...........LOL

  • Raaapppeeee

  • I want a Mexican friend named Julio

  • the cool thing about this song is that you can read the homosexual theme into it, or you can read the drug theme into it. I think its really up to the listener what he and Julio are in trouble for

  • @houstonshuler maybe it's both ;-)

  • MariJulioana

  • Who came here from the Chaser?

  • three way... i'm just saying.

  • no homo overtunes here drug related

  • i love pickin' this,

  • beavis and buttheads playlist.

  • Marty brought me here...

  • Marty brought me here

  • Julio for Presidente.

    Vote for Julio.

    vote # 1

  • my name is julio, my teachers sing this song everytime they see me..... thumbs up if you feel bad for me lmfao

  • i play this when julio jones of the falcons scores. fantasy stud... when healthy. lol

  • thumbs up if the "The Royal Tenenbaums" brought you here!! woo hooo

  • This wasn't about homosexuality. That is 40 year later viewpoint. It was just about 2 kids being kids.

  • uh... it's not about homosexuality. The law they were breaking is left to your imagination... most likely 'blazing up' down by the school yard.

  • @drubedo ur probably the most rite

  • This is just my opinion..but I think it's about an African American playing with a white kid, back in the racism days; it would of been "against the law".

  • if this is about 2 gay guys, where does rosie play in in this song? lol

  • @babychanel21 A friend?

  • I'm almost certain this song isn't about rape. I saw Paul Simon play this song on Sesame Street. Lol if it's about homosexuality.

  • Paul Simon purposely left this song 'open' for interpretations, but he did say the song it self was sexual, but never clarified on what exactly that meant, so yes the most reasonable explanation would be He and Julio were having a sex act in the school yard, got caught and were arrested for their actions, since being gay was a crime in the 70's. I am not demented, or warped, but I was raised on Simon and Garfunkel and that is what I always thought this song was about. Being gay in the USA.

  • @Botyfltiger i always thought the song was about him and Julio were smoking weed by the schoolyard.

  • i think its about rape. you wouldnt be on the cover of newsweek for being gay

  • @IncensePeppermints68 How did you get rape from this? And what is this gay stuff. Me and Julio down by the school yard. They're smokin dope. Duh! Rape ? Gay? Get back into the early 70's. Wake up! Everything is not about being gay or violent crimes. What the hell would you and Julio do in the early 70's down by the school yard that would shock your parents? Duh! Idiot! Moron! They are getting high, smoking dope. Nobody would write about homoness or rape back then. We weren't warped back then.

  • @crobarus nah dude. i was just responding to the people who said him and julio were gay. being gay was a big deal back in 1972. when this song was released. oh and ever hear Aqualung by Jethro Tull? eyeing little girls with bad intent, what do you think is on Aqualungs mind? rape or murder! how bout a song called Slug Bait by Throbbing Gristle. that song is from the late 70s i think and its about a man that brutally murders a pregnant woman. SO CHOKE ON MY HARD COCK YOU CUNT MOTHERFUCKA!

  • @IncensePeppermints68 Where's the rape? Swear at me in nigger language again and I'll jump through the computer screen and kick your ass

  • @crobarus "nigger language"? haha fuck you redneck!

  • @IncensePeppermints68 That's better. Thanks for the compliment

  • @IncensePeppermints68 why dont both you morons shut the fuck up and enjoy the music

  • I used to hang out with a kid named Julio back in the day..that fucking beaner was crazy

  • This is one of the best songs for cheering up.

It's like magical indian super medicine.

  • This is one of the best songs for cheering up.

It's like magical indian super medicine.

  • I'm an old fogey who was around back when this came out and I'm still a huge fan of not just this song, but many of the songs Simon did with Garfunkel. Good shit just doesn't die out, y'know? Rock on!!!

  • FUCK YES, THIS SONG ROCKS!!

  • one of his better hit's

  • paul simon is staring into my soul...

  • Listening to this in comparison with the Streetlight Manifesto cover; Streetlight did a daamn good job.

  • @CGrayArea No they didn't that cover sucked

  • @Th3Trooper I could argue with you, but there's no winning that arguement because you are clearly an idiot.

  • @CGrayArea Or because i'm right? :)

  • @Th3Trooper LOL! No. You, sir, are very, very incorrect.

  • @CGrayArea Music is an art form; and as such is highly subjective.

  • i could listen to this on itunes, but i love seeing what this song means to people. god bless you people who listen to some good old classics! :)

  • me too

  • I`m glad too say that no cartoon, tv-show or game brought me here.... I`m here simply because i love great music.

  • The vid is gone from utube...

  • @smithforthphd you sir are wrong the law that is broken in the song is up for debate Some believe the incident in the song refers to an arrest at an antiwar protest on a college campus the schoolyard with the radical priest who appeared with the singer of the song on the cover of Newsweek being either Philip or Daniel Berrigan priests noteworthy for their antiwar activity during the Vietnam War.

  • @Aloneinthefallout12 It has been said also that the radical priest could be the Rev William Sloane Coffin chaplain from Yale University upon whom the Scot Sloan character in Doonesbury was based

    In a July 20,

  • 1972 interview for Rolling Stone, Jon Landau asked: "What is it that the mama saw? The whole world wants to know." Simon replied "I have no idea what it is... Something sexual is what I imagine, but when I say 'something', I never bothered to figure out what it was. Didn't make any difference to me." This implies that Paul Simon left the crime up to the imagination of the listener, allowing each person who listens to the song to draw their own conclusion from their own thoughts and experiences.

  • If people think this is anything to do with rape... they are dead wrong.

This is most likely about how homosexual was against the law and he was caught doing .... with Julio

  • @Quelthias or a weed dealer caught dealin

  • @Quelthias You do realise its about julio and him doing weed in the schoolyard.... hence against the law, and the penalty for it.

  • @Quelthias Your a fuckin dumb ass it's about him and Julio smoking pot behind the school house.

  • @TheFloyd190 paul simon has come out and said that he himself doesn't really know what it's about, but he imagines it's something sexual. who cares, anyway, I think it's great that everyone has their own interpretations.

  • @TheJonello Na, man its about that chronic they be smokin' out on the playground...
