Whille I agree about the Japanes in most respects, that was then and this is now. These days they have a collective Love hate relationship with us(that is, there some who like us, some who hate us and some who are back & forth on one subject or another). Can we PLEASE avoid terms like 'Japs'? Racism is still around, but lets attempt to be choosey about our referencing. (steps off soap-box..)

@Velocity9s I think Japs is just a shorthand a lot of people use. Nips on the other hand would be different. My grandmother says Japs but she was interned and had her fathers head chopped off so not sure what her meaning is.

This is "The Comet Empire" series. I did end up seeing the Japanese version of "The Bolar Wars," and it wasn't great.

@anniesmyth yes it was even for Japanese audiences. What Leiji and Nish should of postpone other projects until the completing the Bolar Wars the right way.

They had everything going the anime was motion picture quality, They could of shown Desslock wipping out the remaining Dark Nebula fleets. They could of explained what the surviving comet empire ships were up to. Bolar fully using their mechanical fortress, more battles with the Galman wolf packs...I could go on.................

I suppose the ending was meant to temper the indomitable spirit of the Yamato with compassion and pragmatism. The plot's ending with regard to the ultimate powerless of the protagonist isn't entirely satisfying, but I suppose that reinforces the point about humility. (Or paves the way for a third series whilst making a moral apology for the lack of artistic integrity!)

Japan in WW2 was ruled by a military dictatorship that was killing innocent civilians by the hundreds of thousands in China and Korea because the Japs considered themselves the superior Asian race. They were trying to conquer Asian. Japanese racism also contributed to their evil, inhumane treatment of POWs. Not all in the Jap military thought this way, however, and many, like Admiral Yamamoto, did not want war with the U.S. Japanese culture also contains much good, as shown here with Yamato.

Don't say she mimiced the West; her evil was totally original. I feel sorry that some Asians demonize Japan unfairly though. Ask some people in India, Indonesia, Burma, and Malaysia. Generally speaking, the original Japanese version is superior to the English dubbed Star Blazers.

But, Star Blazers did the final confrontation between Zordar and Teresa/Trelaina better. Trelaina's line of "I'm here because you need me" was either inspired or accidentally brilliant.

If in fact Ridley Scott is directing, I hope he follows the source material and doesn't go with that ridiculous script that Disney had a decade ago. For those who don't know, they changed it from the Yamato to Arizona and it was a terrible, terrible, script.
