Okay I asked a friend of mine, it's plastic because they train with metal. When you practice with a heavier metal sword, you get used to the weight. So you go to plastic for competition, so you can do it faster, and fast moves win competitions.

a million bucks says I can proove you wrong. The only thing that matters is how good you are, and how well you learn. If you teach yourself the right way, and know what you're doing, then you can be just as good as any other person who's been trained.

Well the thing is, that JKD is not a style, but more a philosophy you go by. It teaches you to fight freely (doing whatever works such as eye jabbing, groin kicking, etc) the books teach you the tools of JKD ( ounches, kicks, etc)wich are basically any type of punch or kick such as hooks, jabs, etc.

I know everything you're saying about JKD, and that has nothing to do with what I am talking about. JKD is a philosophy, you can teach it to yourself. Previously founded martial arts cannot be properly self taught.

well yes and no. You can teach yourself the techniques of say TKD or Tai Chi, or even Wu Shu. If you watch a video, or read a book on it. I was just using JKD as an example. You can teach yourself to 540 or butterfly twist. you can teach yourself how to joint lock or takedown someone. You can teach yourself

I'm just saying that it depends on the fighter, and how much he can learn, and how well he utilizes what he has learned. So basically that teaches you that oyu don't have to learn in a class or by a sensei, but as long as you learn. We are all martial artist, so y fuss over who is elf-tought and who isn't, when the only thing that matters is fighting ability to use techniques.That's like saying homeschooled ppl are stupid because you pay for an education at a school.
