I'm getting the same thing as ikbeen. The link location changes all the time so I have to reset it. So you really can't use this method if you need a clip running all the time while you aren't there.

Hiii Torley, I followed all the steps and it works beautifully... only... others can't see it.. and the next day the link has changed.. so in this way i have to reset the links all the time!! Any suggestions?

This is great but I can't seem to do it on my macBook. From the vid I can see that on a PC you get that extra clickable link to go after the target url with. Mac just immediately opens the target location and asks to save as file or open with application.

Hello I have a problem with Internet Explorer where when I use it in my favorites that first it does try to downloading it for quiktime player which I do not want after that hassle Xing out of all of that I try it again and I get an error message where it says "Internet Explorer cannot download" What do I do?

Or you could get one of those items that automatically converts Youtube videos for you. I found a free one somewhere in SL. Unfortunately it can only be used on land you own, or deeded to the group that owns the land.

I'm having the black media problem too. The link works for a few hours then when I return the URL becomes invalid. Probably the youtube team making systems to change the last numbers (video ID) in the URL for whatever reasons they have.

Any workarounds for this to obtain permanent URLs to use in SL please? This is an awesome possibility but it's pointless if the URL brakes in a few hours :(

The confusion sucks! There are a number of complications here. Needless to say, please pardon me — I should let you all know (thanks Wizard for the heads-up) that there exist better workarounds for this. YouTube blocks URLs in the comments, so ***BE SURE*** to see the link I'll add to the description on the right.

I informed Torley about this problem and suggested he remove this video on 8/19/2008. He responded so he knows about it.

This was a great idea, except that YouTube changes the URL after a few hours to a new one. When it does, that breaks your Media URL on your parcel and the video won't play.

I'll be passing this info on to Torley.

I too got the black screen. It worked perfectly at first but when I returned later it had stopped working. I ran the Google URL through QuickTime which gave an error message that it was invalid. I then returned to the original youtube page and reobtained the URL. Lo and behold it was a *new* URL which worked for an hour then reverted to invalid status. It seems the Google URLs expire *very* fast and *will not work* as permanent bookmarks for setting up long-term video displays in SL. Sucks.

I was able to do all this correctly. My visitors can see any video I place on there. But all I see is a black screen. so it totally doesn't work for me. Any ideas? I have all the media turned on.

Hmm, got some to work, alot won't allow you to imbed, and when I go back to ones that worked in the past they will no longer work anymore. It seems SL has a hard time recognizing the media type...

hmmm the only vid I can view is one I uploaded to youtube myself...whenever I paste the URL I copy after clicking 'get you tube video' the device resets to 'web' and I have to reset it manually to 'movie', I click play the screen goes black and nothing...but the vid I uploaded to youtube myself works fine. This has happened to me too. A video will work one time, I'll come back a couple of hours later and nothing happens. I've checked the media settings and noticed that SL sometimes mis-detects the video as a text file for no apparent reason.

To clarify that last post, I mean a Youtube video that does work in SL at one point in time, doesn't work in SL at another point in time. It's the same video - sometimes it gets detected as mp4, other times as a text file.

Thanks Torley. I was wondering how I might do this. I visited Watermelinden last week (whoah) and saw your video screens. Instead of plain grey, yours and screens in other places have another texture which is replaced by the video when the media play button is clicked. I'm a scripting moron - how hard is it to do that?
