my jiujitsu teacher said to bring the foot towards you and straighten out you leg, but when i tried it i didnt do it that good can someone explain to me in full detail every little important movement to get the gogoplata
My brother and I grapple and mess around every once in a while and his weight always is a factor in getting me on my back, I tried this just for the hell of it (never did it or practiced it before but I watched this video) and it worked!
I love how you start by showing the technique at full speed before breaking down the motions... Every instructional video (in almost any topic) should be done this way!
nice. I've just got back from JiuJitsu practice and this is a pretty high percentage move for me, although not as high percentage as my triangle choke
I tried using this technique, and i got a novice with it. but for someone who gable grips their hands as a defense from the zombie, i don't know what to work from their
i used this technique while rolling today, but i did it differently.
my right leg was over the neck, did all the steps, and instead of reaching around to grab my toes i had my right arm go over my shin, while my left arm went under and i gable gripped behind his neck.
so i was able to pull his head with the grip while still pushing my shin up with my left bicep, and he tapped, but does my way leave me more vunerable to any kind of reversal/escape?
another technique i like, is another variation of the gogoplata where i take my opposite leg (the one NOT under the chin) and wing it over his head, and take an arm and grab my ankle, cranking it back. the partner REALLY has to fall into it. it could be escaped fairly easily if the opponent is of a higher caliber. requires a lot of flexibility, and a lot of setting up. pretty hard to get into, but if cinched, there isn't much you can do about it.
i know this is not the straight jacket video... but why can't your opponent escape/ stand up when you apply pressure to the straight jacket from rubber guard? thanks.
@cragzzz this isnt the only way to do a gogoplata from chilldog. if you keep geting slammed out of this, instead of holding on to your own foot, you could grab the back of his head with both hands and pull down, forcing his neck into your shin. if you're getting slammed, im assuming the guys legs are posted up like wrestling sortof stance like when rampage slams people. this is why the foot on the hip is important,. if he's posting up his legs you can go for a sweep instead. altho maybe not
Thanks for the advice man. My problem is that no matter where I put my hands, my most common rolling partner tends to just post up and slam as I'm trying to finish. He can lift my whole bodyweight with virtually just his neck. I don't understand his freakish strength because he weighs the same as me
@2StepMurder i know ur comments like a month old but if they defend the gogo with ther arm either the straight jacket or wicked gogoplata are sweet counter moves to them blocking the gogo with there arm
Really good move but do not try it if you have shin pads on (for people doing amateur mma fights) i fought yesterday and tried it but the guy had to much space because of the damn pads.. anyways really good submission
I train gi w/john machado and use this technique all the time.....increase your flexibility people and learn from multiple systems people....it works, I've tapped a bunch of people with this move - i love it
I would agree, I don't think any system is incorrect, the more you know, the better you will be. Wrestling, Judo, Jujitsu, whatever, can all complement eachother nicely =)
tdawson32 please shut your mouth if you didn't try this move ever. I am sure that you couldn't tryout this move because you're not flexible enough. I tried gogoplata just like this video shows, and got the tap from 2 really good guys. I understand that you think it is easy to pull out but actually it is very hard to escape. Gogoplata used by nate diaz is just another option.
thhcool i completely agree with you, i was reading his comment and was like bullshit lol, iv been practicing and stretching with rubber gaurd for around 4 months now and i am now flexible enough to do it comfortably
i understand... that was jus my opinion of that variation of the gogo...and yea i have tried the move and yes i am flexible enough lol i was taking into consideration the people i roll and train with and my general mma experiences. i look at it from a fighting standpoint not necessarily a straight jiu jitsu approach. i appreciate the feed back from peoples experiences with it tho
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i really dont think that gogo is legit....i mean he would have to put some type of pressure on the back of the head or he could easily slip out...personally watch nate diaz vs gomi ...that is a sick gogo my friends
I've used this many, many times as have many fighters from countless gyms. The problem is when people comment via you tube on what they think without testing the moves in live fire situations is "I don't think it can work" comments. There are many versions of moves and one should have an open mind and know that no move works on all people all the time....that is why there are variations! Train hard...good luck!
agreed. this is probably my favorite submission maneuver. let alone my favorite rubber guard based submission. I have had 2 wins using the gogoplata similar to how diaz performed it. i find i can put better leverage by overlapping my leg and pulling down on the head when clasping hands. it just seems a LOT harder to get out of it. at least from my end, it does. i'm a big fan of your vids, very instructional and very helpful.
@tdawson32 Nate or Nick? Nick Diaz's gogoplata against Takanori Gomi was coupled with Crackhead Control, another position in the 10th planet system. Different people use different variations, depending upon the situation; at the end of the day, we know that the system works. I wouldn't expect one video to cover all the different variations on gogoplata in the world.
Hey Ari, just a question. What happens when every time you go for the gogoplata, the guy turns his head the other way, and slips his arm out? What can you do to prevent this, and/or go to a more advantageous position?
JPR: Watch the normal guard and then the rubber guard. You will find out that in normal guard down, you wrap your legs around opponents back, here you have your left/right foot down by the back and then the other up around the neck area, holding that tight with the opposite arm. Sais a guy who have never trained Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu before, only on internet and MMA/UFC/PRIDE games/events. ME. Now if anybody will correct me, ill be happy. Starting at BJJ ASAP, but im only twelve years.
You're not squeezing your knees together. Don't leave your other leg loose. When you're in mission control: ALWAYS SQUEEZE YOUR KNEES TOWARDS EACH OTHER!
Yea that would work well. Its kinda like the invisible collar. I find that all you have to do though is not reach around to your toe, instead just pull the back of their head down. That help?
i tried this recently, i got to kung fu move [i was rolling with a blue belt] and he protected his neck with his chin; i was trying to muscle him around to get him to open his neck, but i couldnt. from there should i just bail and go to jiu claw?
That was a sweet gogo, I've only been in brazilian jiujitsu for bout 6 months but they are not showing me the rubber guard, should I go elsewhere because i love grappling. and I really think the rubber guard could be useful for me.
Every school is different and the instructors will show you what they thing is right. Have fun with it and play around with the RG when you have time. You can do BJJ and 10thP ;-)
some bjj (gracie) wont teach rubber guard because bravo invented it and bravo beat a gracie. I train at a gracie barra school and saying eddie bravo is like wearing a btt gi to class
Strange because this is def not the case for all Gracie Barra schools. I JUST trained at one and the guys were super welcoming and open minded. Had a fantastic time and I am a 10th Planet guy rolling in a GI glass with them. The only way to get better is have an open mind in order to push beyond the limits of convention.
cant comment on all gracie barra's so i imagine some like you say are different but my instructors dont teach rubber guard & not bravo fans. Nice to hear back from you keep up the good work.
dude. i use to think that using a gogoplata was really impractical because your opponent can feel the leg coming up and know a gogo or omoplata is coming. you have to do it quick, but i pulled it off, and when you do it is an instant tap. i was actually slightly afraid because the guy made the most intense choking noise i have ever heard in my life. all you need is the reps and youve got this move.
It takes a lot of flexibility in your hips and knees. I would suggest just googling different stretching techniques or just go buy one of Eddie Bravo's book or videos. I highly recommend 'Mastering the Rubber Guard' :)
you keep him held tight to you, take your free hand and grab his wrist and push it back, keep your other hand on the back of his head, bring your back leg up, and push on the bottom of your heel with it
yes very easily. Most people will usually be defending the gogo plata by grabbing a piece of clothing when you are trying to go to new york. Let them hold onto the clothing.the arm is already bent for an easy kimura if you were in a different position so you can just drop your shin under their neck and make it look like a gogo plata. and drop your shin under. They will think you dont have it. And that's when you transition to the omoplata or triangle or w/e
got it in class today, I'm really happy also it was the first time I put someone in the rubber guard. I feel strange because nobody else does any 10th planet stuff in class.

Once your right leg crosses over his left shoulder is it possible to go for an arm bar of sorts if you feel the gogoplata wont work? I just ask because it looks like his left arm is almost hyper extended and trapped.

So is this a respiratory choke, like putting pressure on his "adam's apple"? Or what is it that you are trying to achieve?

Once your right leg crosses over his left shoulder is it possible to go for an arm bar of sorts if you feel the gogoplata wont work? I just ask because it looks like his left arm is almost hyper extended and trapped.
