nobody is saying that he cant sing. Its obvious that he can.But the reason why everyone is saying that this was staged was because he didnt sound bad singing the first song, but it didnt bring out his voice as much as the second one did. We all know simon is a bit harsh but i dont think he would interput a 12yr old boy that didnt even sound bad if it wasnt set up....overall the second song surpised EVERYONE so if it wasnt a setup then it was a good choice of song apart from the first 1.

Absolutely, it's obvious that's what happened in my opinion... That's why there was such a big deal made about what song he was singing ('Valerie') and why (in the VT before he sang) - you don't see any other contestants talking about what song they're going to sing and why.

It was obviously all pre-arranged although I don't think he was in on it himself - he looked genuinely shocked and upset when Simon stopped him.
