The GS500 is a great bike. I started off on a Ninja 250 but moved up.

geezz your a really nice dad, looks like that was a good christmas. Are there any other bikes like this which are around 400 - 500cc (nothing over 600), have a single headlamp, minimum fairings and are cheapish. Dosen't really matter what year (new or old but not too old) i'm just considering my options. Also needs to be able to keep up on highways without revving it too hard.

@MegaChad29 I have the GS500 as well and I would recommend it for your needs. The Kawasaki ER5 is okay, but vibrates like hell and the Honda CB500S is probably the better one, but walk away if not happy as there are plenty out there. The GS500 has a 270 degree crank so pulls like a train and is surprisingly smooth as all speeds. I would go for the GS500.

@markistc had/have several. an older ducati paso, an 84 ducati 1000 s2,an 02 748,a 96 900 monster, am selling these and going to look for a 1098 of any flavour. or anything with the desmodromic valve system in it. what amounts to essentially a no redline bike

@markistc the 848 IS a nice bike. but the 1098 i saw the vids here on yt of it. its like hell on 2 wheels. can get into trouble REAL easy. most of them i bought CHEAP because they needed service. easy to do btw. if bike has a cam belt, MAKE sure you change it. dont cut corners Eh?, but teh ducs are like having a ferrari at chevrolet prices. has the italian maintenance requirements, but if you can do alot of it yourself, its fairly reasonable

Haha, sweet prezzie! I still remember christmas of 02' (I had just turned 12) and my dad got me a brand new XR100, and my sister a new XR70 for xmas. :) Somehow he managed to fit them down the chimney and put them in the living room. :P Looks like you had a happy daughter (after the discovery of the key :P) as well! Oh, and good choice picking something like a GS500 for her first bike, as opposed to a new R1 or something! Ride safe!

@wotan20 I bought a gs500e as my first bike. it only weighs around 400, its not too bad and the weight is disributed well, i only had my 95 kip up once cause i dumped the clutch in first gear in mid/high rev, but even then it only came up about 2 inches. This bike grows on the rider real fast
