  • I LOVE this song! So many "one hit wonder" groups produced GREAT music!

  • can someone please post As Long As you Love me by this said group

    thanks

  • i remember this from 911 god bless america

  • Love this song!1 Memories!

  • this is an inspiring song.. who can be against us if we are UNITED?

  • Im only 12 and i LOVE this music!

  • Yep, this is what Americans are feeling right now...United we stand; the poor and the middle class against the riches and the greed felt all around the world.

  • La hermandad del honbre.

  • This is a love song...

  • Wow....I was around 9 or 10 years old, called the local AM radio station and requested this song, the DJ asked me if wanted to dedicate the song to anyone and I happened to be staying with my brother and his new wife for a few weeks during the summer. I told the DJ to please dedicate it to my brother Sam from his little sis Lynn...he passed away a few years ago, but this song brought back a wonderful memory.....powerful stuff

  • @LynnieLousMusic Your comment brought me to tears as this song took me back to the summer of 1970 and my big brotrher was back from Vietnam. I lost him in 1992 so I can relate. Some songs just hit the heart really deep with memories of all the people we loved. I miss those days so much.

    Peace

  • @RetroTony1959 I'm glad your brother made it back. Sorry for his passing. Big brothers can be such an awesome part of our life.

  • @searcher555 Thank you for your kind comment. I had 3 older brothers and 4 younger. I guess I was the middle one. We had great parents and great memories.

    Peace

  • @RetroTony1959 You know my loss and pain....I hang in there knowing someday we will be together again, I miss you Sam!

  • This song represents what I consider the "golden age" of "Middle of the Road" music, which lasted from roughly 1966 to 1975 - when Engelbert Humperdinck, Carpenters, Bread, early Olivia Newton-John, Helen Reddy, and the like were all big with adults and teens. Great music.

Most Americans probably don't remember, but one of the massive UK hits from the group's late '70s incarnation did cross over to the charts here... "Save Your Kisses For Me." It was a #1 Adult Contemporary hit in 1976.

  • 9/11's song or at least I dedicate this song to it.

  • Such a powerful song !! Example for present working class heroes

  • Thumbs up if your an alien.

  • I'm so happy that I was with my children today!

  • Donrholloway yes it is a powerful song I live in Melbourne it's warmer here than tassie italk to the states every day on ham radio any way enjoy the music god bless

  • love this beauty

  • a great song

    when in the car

    with five generations

    singing loud and proud

  • Well this is a song that I dedicate to U S A good luck to all from a mate in Australia

  • @Jackupnow God bless us all mate.

  • @Jackupnow Thanks mate. I love this song. I live in Tennessee, U.S.A. I was in Hobart, Tasmania in 1976. I have to say, these were the friendliest people in the world. You have a great country. The U.S.A. is not so great right now. But music connects us all. God bless.

  • I learned of this song while reading about the Upstairs Lounge Fire in New Orleans in 1973. It's a great song but the story of how it is linked to the people killed in the fire is just heart breaking.

  • a fabulous song!

  • Awesome song from I believe 1970 or 1971!! When I hear this song 911 does not to come to mind at all!! What does is the Vietnam War and the 58,000 plus Americans who died there including my brother :-( Those that survived and came home we treated like dirt{I am being nice here.} So if you want to make this song about politics, that is what I remember to this day!!

  • I Will always hink of 911 and how wonderful that the whole country came together as one. I still live in Manhattan, it is a kinder, gentler city. Sad that it took a tragedy, but the support from the USA was amazing. I was there that day. WE WILL NEVER FORGET!

  • @Jeannenyc57 I don't think that this was intended to be a song about patriotism or terrorism, but rather about humanity as a whole standing together. As for me, I would like to be able to forget days like September 11 and hope that humanity can evolve beyond warfare and the sort of tribal unity against a common enemy of which you seem so proud. As for New York being kinder and gentler... well, that is where Wall Street is, right?

  • @TaraClan I'd like to forget that day also, I lost a brother. The song, I remember when it came out.

I guess each of us get's different meaning to songs, but I love it anyway, and YES Wall street is in NY, So is Statue of Liberty, Empire State and so much more. Have a good day.

  • we sang this song when we left primary school in 2003..im 19 now and finished secondary school a year...and i was at my little brothers graduation mass from primary school last week and was tearing up when they sang this aswell...this song has a special place in my heart:)

  • @xxXdaynababyXx Thank you for posting this beautiful, heartfelt message. My eyes teared up when I read this. This song came out shortly after I finished high school and it has always had a special meaning for me.

  • @DONRHOLLOWAY aww ur very welcome:) glad you appericiate this song as much as me:) ino ino we must be so alike im so soft and i couldn't hold it back they were the sweetest little kids ever the were even crying because they were all leaving for different schools:( but i suppose in one way its a happy thing because he's grown up :)

  • This song is an anthem to so many people and for so many different reasons.....may it live forever...thanks for posting this wonderful memory.

  • Why do people have to fuck things up and bring politics into everything. For once can we just listen to great music without someone bringing politics into it.

  • Its so much easier to sing this song then live it--but Bravos, Great song.

  • One gay bar I hung out in would play this song at the evening. We've come a long way.

  • But yes, to date....... 13 people have fell apart...... unlucky for some.....

  • Don't think this song was really written with any political agenda behind its creation, I do think its a love song - early 1970's was chronic, government could only afford to switch on the grid to give us light and telly three days a week, so to me its a love song about living through harsh times - people today don't know how lucky they are... Socialists Unite lol

  • for some reason i was reminded of this song as i attempted to build a bridge out of pasta

  • Was played late in the day of 9/11/2001 by various radio stations!

  • I Love This Song, And Band! I Played This Song, Over And Over. My Mom, Loved it Too! Us Against The World! Perfect, Love The Words! Means so Much to Me. Everyone Can Relate, Thanks , Julieoliverio, GIGI, xoxo

  • nice,thank you

  • Was this song originally done while the U.S troops were involved in Vietnam?

  • question? was there another version of this song that was more upbeat? I recall hearing this song after 9/11 but it was more uptempo. It might have been a cover.

  • Song makes me think of 9/11.

  • Ron Paul 2012.

    Time Has Come Today!

  • such impressive vocal range! makes the song a delight!

  • It's interesting that this was really two different groups. The first ensemble is in the picture at 1:47. This is who you hear in this recording. Tony Burrows, the male lead, at the top of the pic, was a session singer who also sang with Edison Lighthouse, White Plains, Pipkins, and First Class.

  • @MrTrashcan1 check out the new one by Benny Mardones feat. Teresa James for 9/11 and would love you to leave a comment....thanks

  • this song reminds me of ''All In The Family'',Kent State,Watergate,my family eating a rib dinner when i was a kid,Kidergarden, and Paul a 350 pound hippie who use to sing hippie folk songs with his wife Veronica.

  • @georgelee43211 check out the new one by Benny Mardones feat. Teresa James for 9/11 and would love you to leave a comment....thanks

  • Played this on my evening show WOAI-AM (1200khz./50 kw.) during the summer of '70...Had so many requests for the cut from all over N. America and Canada...Things were so laid-back...All the great music produced then...doesn't compare anywhere close to now......The 70's will live forever...I was honored to be a part of it....

  • @paradesound check out the new one by Benny Mardones feat. Teresa James for 9/11 and would love you to leave a comment....thanks

  • I got this song in stuck my head while driving home last night. I am greatful to find it on youtube. It brings back memories of my youth, riding in the car with my parents.

  • Dave here. Brings back memories of the Tides Inn Tavern in Jacksonville Beach during the 1970s and the fragrance of Charlie perfume in the air on saturday evenings with Ms. Smokey on stage among others. "United We Stand was the concluding song of the evening with many members of the audience, including some Jax leading lights, joining the performers on stage to sing this song.

  • @Myrtle791 check out the new one by Benny Mardones feat. Teresa James for 9/11 and would love you to leave a comment....thanks

  • we need good music like this one more than ever i think , thanks .

  • Proof positive that "Inspirational, Peace-Driven Music" doesn't have to equal "Preachy And Annoying."

Thumbs up if you agree (come on, people--UNITED WE STAND...) ;)

  • What a memory. Around that time almost all of the 6th grade girls at my school were still wearing their Vietnam soldier ID bracelets we had bought and they remained unclaimed because those names on our bracelets never returned home. Only about 2 or 3 got to give their bracelet to the soldier when they returned, and the rest of us were crying. We'll never forget you - MIA and POW.

  • @username4Y god bless those fallen heroes

  • Not that it makes any difference to me but up to just Five mins ago I thought for forty years that a black group sang this.

  • The first four bars still comprise the most quintessentially American music I've ever heard. And everything that follows...god, what an indelible anthem.

  • This reminds me of summer camp. Such great memories!

  • MAGICAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nuff said

  • America is the greatest nation on Earth. We know it. The world knows. But this will not always be the case. If we are not careful, our liberty will be completely undermined and we will crumble to pieces.

We must unite and save our country before it is too late. Please Americans, wake up and smell the socialism. We have been violated and it's time we put a stop to it.

  • @FreedomForAmericaII

    Viva Julian Assange!

  • to the person ? who said this song still sucks "up yours mate "

  • @christine09434 I second that emotion my friend!!!

  • This still sucks.

  • Sfirsitul anilor '60... Radio Europa Libera, Cornel Chiriac transmitea frecvent aceasta melodie !

  • A timeless classic. This song is more relevant after 9/11/2001 than it was when it was originally released in 1970 since we must be united in the war against terrorism, both foreign and domestic.

  • A timeless classic. This song is more relevant after 9/11/2001 than it was when it was originally released in 1970 since we must be united ibn the war against terrorism, both foreign and domestic.

  • I remember that this song played every hour during 9/11.

  • Oh man, i love the oldies so much, to bad i couldn't have lived in that time. haha and i'm only 15.

  • 1:05 - 1:06 how do they make those notes sound so beautiful!!! Brotherhood of Man are awesome. Is this the quartett group or the original group of 5?

  • Solidarity4, you are one labor union puke. it's 'cos of union morons like you as to why the U.S. economic might has declined to nothing. GFY!

  • @funkateerkitty Love ya to sister!!!

  • Ageless classic................. great song with a strong sentiment.

  • wow this song bring me back to the hippy days.

  • "Proud to be American" This song "rocks".

  • This is from when they had 'real' singers in the group.

  • Awesome song; all-time favorite! Thanks for posting!

  • Love this song! good job on this!

  • bluddy awesome....brings back great memories when i was a kid..........thanks 4 posting!!!

  • cool song still so strong if only !

  • Was this the same lineup as in in 1976? The singer had a great voice.

  • Brotherhood of Man are a British pop group who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1976 with "Save Your Kisses for Me".

  • One of the best, if not THE best, songs of the 70's. Things were so good in the early 70's - a totally different culture and mood from the late 70's, which in my opinion was awful. Amazing how good the music was from 1970 -1975. Oh yeah - the Dawn of Disco and the end of good music!

  • OK why are there different people in the pics? Which was the group sang had the hit?

  • @marcmgm There were two completely different versions of (The) Brotherhood of Man. The original line up (which altered a little in its 3 or so years) are featured here. Tony Burrows and Sunny Leslie take the solo's. The second line up were far more successful winning the Eurovision Song Contest and having number 1 and top ten hits in the UK (and probably elsewhere). However, their less soulful more full-on pop sound is usually considered to be inferior to the originals material.

  • Summer of 1970 and they were special times, our culture was at its zenith.

  • @jim102353

Yes, and this is precisely why I collect as much as I can from that era.

  • We play this every year at our 9/11 memorial. It really says it all - simply.

  • This song reminds me of roller skating when I was a little girl. Not a care in the world except if that cute boy would ask me to skate with him.

  • Sometimes more is more!

  • Cool song great soccer anthem

  • Sentimental sound from 1970.Sad and rather poignant.

  • This is where union workers are unique in the World.

There is strength in numbers; and power in the Labor Movement.

    Solidarity Forever!

  • Unfortunately greedy ceos and the exposure of some corrupt union heads have done a good job of demonizing the union movement in the eyes of too many americans, and blaming our economic mess on them. Sorry people, but I think it's more than coincedence that the decline of the labor movement coincides with the decline of the middle class. Exporting jobs to countries like China, with no human rights or worker protection, all in the name of cheap goods and big profits, makes no sense.

  • @solidarity4 PISS ON THE FUCKING UNIONS. WE MUST STAND UNITED FOR FREEDOM AND LIBERTY.

  • @solidarity4 yeah, it's not the 70's anymore!

  • @solidarity4

Yes, but your numbers are shrinking.

The reality is that two tier wage scales and the increasing economic and political power of southern states are probably going to destroy organized labor in this country.

Kasich and the Republicans have total control in Ohio now and they're expected to try for Right To Work there. It'll be a war but there's significant support for it because of the economy. There's more support now than when they last tried it in 1958.

  • @solidarity4 You're talking about "Look for the Union Label!"

  • I remember this great song from high school. Name calling like "damocrats", just shows childish behavior. If you're that concerned, run for congress!

  • Oh, I love this song sooo much.

  • This is one of the most Beautiful songs I have EVER heard. I love it so very much.. it makes me cry. I remember being 12 & hearing this song & being so deeply moved. I miss my friends, the fun & the innocence of that time. Every once in a while I remember this song & sing it. I still feel deeply moved. I find the lyrics to have very deep meaning. I can't say enough about this song and how grateful I am to find this. @julieoliverio Thank you so much for posting this. I Love it! *)*

  • Whoa!! Does this song ever take me back!!!

    Great post!!

  • @Resonantforce

I love it!! What a great song!!

Nice post, thank you and to Rich for sharing!

  • I heard this old song when I was in Walgreens. I had totally forgotten about this little gem. I found myself singing the song in the store while shopping,, and even though some people looked at me like I was nuts, I didn't care, because there were smiles too, from the old school shoppers. A good song that brings back good memories from my childhood.

  • Good lord,i think i just passed through a youtube portal...one moment i was listening to aphex twin, and now....What in the world is this music, and why am i suddenly filled with hope and inspiration...

  • @obliviongreen So great to hear that music like this makes people feel hopeful and inspired. The refrain certainly gives a big lift but I think the female and male voices singing

these lines that feels so right: "And if the world around you falls apart, then I'll still be here." and "And if the going gets too hard along the way just you call out to me."

  • Julie - your assessment of this song is so true. It does give an internal hope that we can all remain united. I love this song and always haveand will.

  • To The Towel Heads that think they are going to get those 72 virgins. Were going to send all of you to Hell. SOON!!!!!! Please America. Let us unite and stop the be nice and they will not hurt us...

  • Just to whom are you referring to that you use such disparaging terms??? Don't twist the meaning of this beautiful song. Know your history, it wasn't the external enemies that destroyed the Roman Empire, it rotted from within due to internal strife, moral decay and preverse behavior - the same influences that our society faces today - I'd be much more concerned (and united we stand) against THOSE elements!

  • I was not talking about the Romans. If you read my note carefully, you will see that I'm talking about the damocrats in Washington right now that are going to destroy MY COUNTRY from with in with all this "OH WE NEED TO TALK TO THEM" and This truely is a beautiful song...

  • Comment removed

  • Trivia Time!!!!!!!!! Deram Record Label was on the original 45rpm of United We Stand. The Brotherhood of Man was A studio group from England Featuring singers from various pop and folk groups. The QUESTION is: What song was on the FLIP side of this #13 Billboards hit in 1970.

  • I don't get it.....2 different photos with different people....what happened ?

  • My god where did the years go? Seems like yesterday....aaah the memories.

  • love the chorus

  • One of my all time favourite songs. I love it!

  • If the Islamic terrorists would put down their guns it would be a happier place..

  • what, did they wake you up from your american dream? :(

  • Agreed, and so should all the domestic terrorists and terrorist organizations bend on our destruction as well.... (Remember the Oklahoma City bombing anyone?)...

  • Reality and ideals often came together in the seventies, then the money people in the eighties said it was all a dream, after they destroyed it... then in the nineties it all came back again, and subsequently again, after 2001 it was all destroyed again; enemies, money, wars...

  • This is a beautiful song. <3

  • Very nice song.

  • Why are we debating the meaning of "invasion" in this video? /= First of all guys, we all know exactly what the Japanese did; whether you call it an "invasion" or "a mere attack" is a mere question of your level of smart-assishness.

It's a nice song ;; Stop running off on pointless rabbit trails and appreciate the awesome cheesiness that is TOGETHER (you and I) ~<3

  • It is weird how we go to a nice song to Islamic Terrorists attacking us. . :)

  • Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty! Do NOT associate with those given to CHANGE! Trust in the Lord will all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do NOT be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones. Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it springs the issues of life - Proverbs

FEAR NOT, PRAY FOR YOUR ENEMY - Jesus

  • See NWO Solution

  • GCU SONG YE0000W!

  • Another 70's pop amthem that thrilled my sixteen year old soul....

  • Just beautiful...

  • Great Song for the era

This is a song about relationships not patriotism.

  • Beautiful song.Beautiful group.

  • RONHAT - I couldn't agree more; drop the Patriot Act. :-)

  • this is an asome song

  • Just the best.

  • Reminds me of Mike Curb Congregation's Burning Bridges

  • un clasico inolvidable de la decada de los 70´s

  • United we need to be. Never before have we been divided. Remember what we are. USA should be number 1 - but our backs are against the wall.

  • ???? Are you serious?

And tell me exactly WHY the USA should be number 1 ?

And WHO put your backs against the wall?

You have never been invaded by outside forces.. your condition, like everyone else's is entirely in YOUR hands!

  • LOL sprinter440 is obviously very proud to be American... : )

Great song though... I think more in terms of marriage - 'You & me against the world"... or whanau (family)... awesome, inspirational song...

  • that is true america as never been invaded and thats the problem americans thing they are super becouse they have never been invaded may be it is time

  • love earth go back in history to 1940 then come back and say that

  • America has never been invaded attacked yes but not invaded

  • We've been invaded several times...in 1812 the british burned our capitol down and in the 40's Japan invaded part of Alaska and claimed it as their territory

  • japan invading alaska was hardly and invation it was pretty much given to them, there was little to no resistance, and war of 1812 was more of a ocean war, yes the british took some land but it was more in the frontier so really not and invation, they did burn down the capitial but that was it they didnt old the land, I guest it is just how you thing about it

  • but like I siad america as not been invaded at lest not been massively been invaded to were it would really matter becouse pretty much after the invation they were pushed back out

  • and the atack of perl habbar

  • yea it was just that a attack not an invation

  • good times good times

  • Thought I would never hear this again, this great !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So lucky to have heard music from 1965 to 1975

  • Great song! However, it's a pity that we have to endure mostly pictures of that bunch of eurovision twats that made up the latterday version of this group!!!!!!
