Easy answer to your question mlahk, Ovechkin is a repeat offender and doesn't know how to hit guys without jumping off his skates. Michalek's hit was more of an exception than a rule. I'm not saying he didn't deserve a fine, but that's why Ovie's getting suspended and Michalek is not.

It's a dangerous sport. Players are going to get hit. These rules are going to make players think they won't get hit this way, therefore they'll be less likely to brace for such hits and get injured just as bad, if not worse. Its almost as if the league is overlooking the endless number of variables that exist when two grown men slam into each other at high rates of speed. It seems to me he targets his shoulder, hits him, and glances off and into his head. Players are going to second guess now.
@MJ52590 well said, alot of players play in the league now that act as if it's a non contact sport the Wilds Bouchard missed over a year with concussion issues came back this year started playing well again but then while he had the puck against the boards saw Bogosian coming at him and turned towards the boards at the last second Bogosian filled him in and now he's got another concussion! guys with concussion history especially should be more aware but their not and it's a problem.
I'm fine with the suspension but don't suspended him for just the hit suspend him as a repeat offender... He needs to change his style of play just like every other physical player in the league there's a difference between a good hard check and a leaping check... From a recent Syracuse PAT in college football that they clearly missed, the refs reviewed, and UPHELD, to six players being on the court during a Western Kentucky-Louisiana Lafayette college basketball game. I don't understand why it's "taboo" to call out poor officiating.

I don't know how anyone can be so blind as to defend this hit, I seriously don't understand it. He jumped and checked his head into the boards. Simple as that. Even if you're the biggest Capitals fan in the world, I don't see how you can dismiss it. So Zbynek Michalek had is elbow up ovechkin didnt, he hit him from behind and ovechkin didnt. the hit hendricks took was more dangerous because 1. it was from behind and 2. it was a blatant elbow to the back of the head. It's a dangerous sport. Players are going to get hit. These rules are going to make players think they won't get hit this way, therefore they'll be less likely to brace for such hits and get injured just as bad, if not worse. Its almost as if the league is overlooking the endless number of variables that exist when two grown men slam into each other at high rates of speed. It seems to me he targets his shoulder, hits him, and glances off and into his head. Players are going to second guess now.

Can someone please explain this? Even the Pensblog criticized the decision saying that there needs to be more consistency for penalties and suspensions. From a recent Syracuse PAT in college football that they clearly missed, the refs reviewed, and UPHELD, to six players being on the court during a Western Kentucky-Louisiana Lafayette college basketball game. I don't understand why it's "taboo" to call out poor officiating.

call me biased or whatever but for ovechkin to get 3 games and Zbynek to get NOTHING is a little bit fucked up. i agree ovechkin left his feet and deserved to get what he got but what about Zbynek? all he gets is a 2 min minor? you see guys just about every other day getting 3+ games for what he did, and he gets jack shit for the hit on Hendy? doesnt make sense the NHL has gone from protecting players to picking and choosing who to suspend and who not to suspend. doesnt make sense
