A bigger brain doesn't mean it's more powerful. It's like saying the first Computers were better because they filled a whole room and weighed a few tons. Also the "Software" is very important. The human brain needs years to develop all the skills we need in our modern society.
Communicating with dolphins?
"If a lion could speak, we could not understand him." Wittgenstein
@nairolfmackebrecht What is interesting is WHERE dolphin's brains are bigger...it is specifically the neocortex area, which is the area responsible for higher thinking skills. Makes one wonder what they are thinking about....
While Well Intentioned, Jeff missed the point with some of Lilly's work. The isolation tank/Psychedelic work was independent from the Dolphin work. I've read Lilly books on both. Conan seems as deep as a bathtub.
Actually, Lilly WAS trying to figure out electronic means to communicate with Dolphins. I've been a Lilly fan for many many years. He was a remarkable man. I highly recommend to all those who have an interest in the brain/mind and cosmos to read every one of his books at least once. Some are quite worthy of a second or third read.
@HitMeWithIt How was the title miss leading? Did he not say that he knew the man? Did he not say that Lilly shot up LSD? In my understanding of the definition "musing" is an instance or period of reflection.
I met John Lilly after he had switched to Ketamine. He was one of the great Scientists of the 20th Century. Hunter Thompson's eulogy for Tim Leary equally applies "He is forgotten now, but not gone."
Why such a misleading title? If it's to attract more views you can hardly do better than "Jeff Bridges talks about taking LSD & communicating with dolphins on Conan"
@atrios28 Shamefully misleading title, yet money must be made by those who don't need anymore. Just one point about "dolphins having bigger brains than humans" he's scientifically, anatomically inaccurate. An animal brain, including ours, is supposed to be in proportion to its body size. A dolphin brain is. A human brain is not. Look at newborns, our brains are much too large therefore giant protective skulls cause life to be brought forth in pain. Not quite so in the natural world.
@atrios28 Yes, John Lilly took many chances and had the courage to use himself as a living experiment. I think he didn't trust anyone else lol. Gonzo journalist Thompson was so complex, getting uber-obsessed with Hemingway's suicide then taking his own life. Still he was a true pioneer and Leary, well he was our guru. Remember Leary biscuits? To think, for few crazy years tiny grams of his ashes rained down on us. Some called these men fools. I like to think their actions said it all

Jeff Bridges is not quite representing Lilly's ideas quite accurately, but he is funny. The other two? Is there intelligent life on earth?

@thatstheguy07 Well done moron. He CHANGED IT!
You think me and another guy just imagined the title was misleading?
It said something to the effect of 'Guy injects LSD on TV'
anyway, nice that you are so aware. Good one :)
