  • LeRoi Moore..... I really love him in this! DMB will never be the same.... RIP GrooGrux.... Die hard DMB follower since '93... over 300 shows...

  • 300 shows?!....thats a lot of weed!

  • this song gives me the chills... beautifully written and composed

  • I feel like thinking about the signature is not the problem but how Dave made the song feel like normal 4/8 tiiming while counting one two three four five six sev.

  • I'd call it a 7/8, but yeah it's in 7

  • Is this in 7-4 time?

I love DMB's time signatures, they rock my world.

  • really your going to talk about time signitures during this song

  • My first DMB show [= Hopin for a live trax someday.

  • Thank you for the heart song.

  • RIP Leroi

  • Carter the Beast! 7/8 Grooving!!!

Awesome Musicians who transport so much energie and emotions!

    Addicted since 2004!

  • I remember being at this concert with my friends on the lawn. Most of us were all in a differnt space at this moment of the cocnert. I remember hearing this song and literally put me in a mood that only few can describe....GOTTA LOVE CONCERTS....peace.

  • i feel like the band really stepped up onto a new realm in this performance it is seriously out of this world!

  • just outstanding! I'm sure this song is very difficult to perform live

  • This would make the perfect theme song to the movie "Pan's Labyrinth."

  • This song and the movie are amazing but i disagree....this song is about a man who lost his infant child, pans labyrinth is a whole different ballgame...

  • I never thought it being about that... I always assumed it was about innocence lost.

  • One of the best songs ever created..

  • beautiful song

  • They are soooo amazing live.

  • love this song. very original and distinct in sound from other dave songs

  • this son is my childhood favorite story. I have related a lot of my moments as do we all for the bands music and lyrics are poetry in motion. God bless LeRoy RIP. Jobie King

  • THIS IS SO AWESOME!!! My hard drive crashed over the summer and took all of my live DMB with it all the way back to 93!!! IMAGINE THAT!! I'm still in morning so if anyone knows of a good website where I can retrieve some of it or at least right now I'm looking for Pig from VA Beach 96. To me the best Pig ever!!!

  • STILL THE BEST DAVE SONG EVER!

  • no dave album is a bad album

  • I agree with you on that one, but I personally didn't enjoy everyday. I mean it had some catchy songs but overall I wouldn't put it as my top favorite "studio" albums. My favorite has to be under the table.

  • BEST DAVE SONG EVER!

    ADAM D

  • wow i did'nt know all that about this song thanks to all of you for the info!

  • I love Carter Beuaford's Voice

  • beauty dan captured Roi on his penny whistle.... RIP ...

  • where can i get this mp3 or the entire farm aid 2007 cd at?? I know there is a BADASS version of the Allman Brothers Melissa feat Dave

  • gotta love my man carter back there on the drums doin his thang!!

  • And his voice too, the man writes some great harmonies for the songs

  • You have to check out their album: Stand Up, I absolutely love each song on it. Lately that is all the music I listen too, the instruments and composing where made exactly right...not denying Before These Crowded Streets is also a superb album. DMB is best seen live, have you been to a concert? No matter the price I have been to many, bar none the best concerts I have ever experienced.

  • I know right i love Stand up Alubum one of my favs from dmb

  • my favorite has got to be a tie between Stolen away and Spoon...I could not agree more on the live comment. They were born to play the music.

  • Stand Up is terrible and it is embarassing it is even being mentioned in the same breath as Before These Crowded Streets.

  • thank you i completely agree...stolen away being compared to spoon? are you kidding me? these people are crazy. stand up is one of the worst albums of the last 20 years. btcs is amazing

  • How much of this did Stefan write?

  • He wrote the entire song. He wrote after the death of his daughter.

  • He wrote the guitar part as well as the bass part? Both are fantastic. I love the bass throughout. Tim's additions also add to the haunting feel of the song.

  • In regards to the music, I'll be honest, I have no idea. I was responding to a previous poster who I assumed was referring to the lyrics, which Stefan did write.

  • no dave and stefan co-wrote it

  • Are you talking about Dave's daughter? Because I thought they weren't even born yet, when he released this song.

  • No, I was talking about Stefan's daughter. She dies of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

  • My first and, so far, favorite album is "Before These Crowded Streets". funny Enough, I bought "Under the Table and Dreaming" on tape for the car. I never owned or ripped "Crash". Bt since then, "Busted Stuff" is probably another favorite of mine.

  • i love this song :)

  • my fav DMB song by far. ... one of the best songs of all time by any band.

  • I'm going to have to agree with you. This song is simply amazing.

  • fuck comments

  • I agree. I just saw this on the Palladia TV channel, and I loved it right away.

  • These are the most beautiful lyrics I have ever heard!!!!

  • Hey I was at this show, cool

  • RIP Leroi you will forever be missed...

  • the ending of the song is so amazing its FADING its hard to do.. hehehe

  • i def. got goosebumps throughout the entire video

    leroi youre awesome

i was freaking out a little bit with the horn cry at the begining....

  • We're going to miss you Leroi...

  • Are they continuing the current tour w/o Le Roy?

  • I played the flute and the alto, tenor seprano and barry (beritone) saxaphone... I played various other instruments but LeRoy Moore was a hero to me... he was my dreaming tree... Nothing can replace him...

  • "His" horn at the beginning..chills.

  • Painful to watch now....

  • totally

    :'(

  • makes me wanna smoke pot

and i smoke a lot of pot

  • well...do they play reggae ^^ ;)

  • they all make me want to smoke pot and i dont smoke

  • Stefan looks so sad, it gives me shivers.

  • it was written by stefan and is about someone who questions faith through the subject of death. The song was written in mourning after stefan lost his daughter in 1996

  • what do you think this song is about?

  • how cities and suburbs are developing to quickly. How trees prove to be in the way so they tear them done.

"Only when the last tree has been cut down and the final river dried to a trickle will man realize he cannot eat money."

  • this does apply, but its also about growing up and how childhood dreams seem to disappear. The full meaning of this song is still up in the air as Dave is so so so so good at doing that. He's one deep mofo and I frikkin love it. cheers

  • I did not like DMB when I first heard it 11 years ago. I knew his voice and the band as a whole were pretty unique, but it wasn't my taste of music. My best friend though played it all the time, and it wasn't long before I was converted to a true DMB fan. Trying to convice my other friends is proving impossible. DMB forever!

  • The most amazing song, from an incredible artist. I love Dave.

  • One of the best songs ever created..

  • before these crowded streets was my favorite album, i kind of stopped following after that one though.

  • In deed it does. Dave music and lyrics have a deeper, more complex and secluded concept.

Live Long Dave, Live forever your beautiful music

  • One of Dave's best songs especially if we take the time to think about it's true meaning and understand it. The best band to ever have lived

Live long Dave live forever your beautiful music

  • It has come to my attetion that this man's music comes from another dimension, I thik higher than ours, so, be glad that we can experience it NOW.

  • agreed

  • i fucking love this song. i was so happy when i finally got to hear at a show.

  • Hey, why you guys ranting on Dave going on his own? They're great as a band, but he is great as a solo artist too. Both produce great albums.

  • This is so amazing...I love DMB.

    their music is simply perfect.

  • dave matthews band is the best band ever....

a daily inspiration....thank you guys for that great music you create

  • one of the best songs ever!

  • no the full version is actually 22 minutes long, i found the mp3 on the web. its got a trumpet solo in it too.

  • where can i find it then? 22 mins of dreaming tree... sounds looovely :)

  • lol ill message you the link if i can find it

  • yah i found it too

  • great song, DMB is so amazing live. best band to come out in 20 years

  • This song is so sad but so excellent.

  • thats the way it often goes...

  • What the hell are you talking about? Some Devil* had some amazing songs on it... So Damn Lucky, Oh, Stay or Leave, Gravedigger, Some Devil... all very solid live songs. I agree the DMB is better when together, but Dave is no pushover solo

  • yes,i do agree,Dave is amazing by himslef.

but there's a certain feeling you get with the whole band playing together.

  • Yeah...actually he won a Grammy for Gravedigger in 2004. But I guess his solo stuff still sucks. DMB is one thing. Dave Matthews is another. The energy you get from a DMB concert is like no other. Dave can still amaze thousands of people by himself, though.

  • did you not read my whole comment?

  • wow

  • its more of a joke than anything

  • what does that even say?

  • It's meant to say "The niggas... where they at?!" Sad but true. Abbot you lack character.

  • what was this argument even about?

  • well dave was my first concert at piedmont park, and seeing how this song's got to be one of my favorites, i was so pleased they performed it...if someone could post that full version that'd be great...still brings chills to my back when i hear it...

  • You can buy the CD or DVD or both for that concert on the DMB site.

  • i know i was, i was just talking about the one song on youtube so i can post it on myspace profile....but thanks though...i plan on purchasing it

  • My kids won't be allowed to listen to anything else. i'll subject them to DMB therapy by blindfolding them and locking them in a room with nothing to do except listen to Dave Matthews Band. Pretty quickly, my kid will hate me and ttheir only source of comfort will be the DMB songs. well, Dave is probably a better dad than anyone anyway. it can't do my kid any harm.

  • lol...that's crazy....lol

  • DMB did me good, I grew up on this and other songs.

  • i hope my kids want to hear Dave matthews when theyre 2 lol

  • My two and a half year old son askes me to sing this to him before he goes to bed.Odd, but I love doing it.

  • I was at this show! It was @ the Tweeter Center - Chicago. My 1st DMB concert! Its one of my fav songs :)

  • i love this song with all my heart. it makes me remember of my best friend when she died she was 11 actually it happened about 1 week ago.. im 11 too. dont comment back no more sadness. but in genereal this song is my fav. halloween to when im mad

  • For being 11, that is awesome that you chose such amazing pieces of music as your favorites - and for the right emotions. Don't be sad....Express yourself in song and life.

    Many prayers.

    Jantz

  • From AntsMarching:

Questioning faith in the eyes of death is the message of this complex song. Beginning with the "If I had the faith to..." calls out God directly, sighting the things that the person has done, despite the death of this loved one. The Dreaming Tree is that happy place, figuratively or literally, where everything is all right in the world. Speculation over the identity of the deceased person is rampant due to the masking ambiguity of the song.

  • Reminds me of longlasting effects and memories of daily childhood dxm

  • whew i was there, best concert of all time... blue water>typical then what you are was the best encore of all time

  • great song off a great album

  • it's lessard.

  • fantastic

  • beautyful...it makes me sad...but its a nice sadness

  • this is the song i like to drive alone and think to... makes me feel strange... in a good way

  • my school's marching band is doing a show based on DMB. this is the opener song

  • I had never seen this one live. Sure thing this is not just one of my fave DMB songs but one of my all time favorites! AMAZING!

  • This song was written by Stephan Lasard. it is about his baby girl that died, I think as an infant, that is why they do not play this song much and also why when it is is played the bass has so big a part.

  • I dont think He had any kids when this CD was out, Before These Crowded Streets. I dont even think he was married. Dude was just getting into snowboarding!
