The IRS gets that info at the end of the year, the FTC can figure it out for themselves. What if you were also using Google's ad share and were getting pain for that too, do you have to disclose how much you earn as the payments are reccuring or is it an estimate? I don't see the point about it either, just more legislation or rules for you to comply with and then people will sue and it will hopefully go away.
I agree that you shouldn't have to disclose how much you were paid. However, I believe it's right to say WHETHER you've been paid or not. It's the difference between someone just sharing their opinion and someone posting an advertisement. The viewer has a right to know that the opinion is one of someone in contract with the company. But how much they were paid is no one's business.
I like the new law. Before I was never sure whether or not the beauty vloggers actually gave a crap or not about the product regardless of compensation
i agree wit u its bull aint no ones bussiness but urs & da companys id say its away 4 them 2 get more money out of bloggers idk how but they only do things like dat 4 money so sumwhere down the line theyll b demanding money they suck digin ur show lotz
ok, so i have always wanted to know how much you guys really get paid for stupid stuff like this.. but it is total BS cuz its your lives.. no one needs to know its totally irrelevant how much you get paid..
I MADE U BITCH!!!!!! I PAY U< NOW ENDORSE ME!!!!!! lmao...oh ya and i almost forgot, PUT ME IN FRONT OF MAKEMEBAD35, NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by the way, i was not paid to write this message, i got $0.00 for this...enjoy ur life
glad you broached this subject, it only received a small blurb in the local newspaper, as if it's a small matter. i knew the Gov would stick their regulatory hands into the cyberspace thing, a long time ago, doesn't surprise me, but the almost total silence from the media does.JV
sounds like this might be pressure from companies that have more traditional publicity, but if this where to be fair, tv stations should also show how much they got paid to air commercials
and tv shows and movies should have little pop ups saying how much they got paid for the anoying "product placement" thats showing up more and more, as well as any other promotion of a product but thats not likely so, its probably somebody who wants to keep vloggers and such down
imagine going to a grocery store and having the checkout staffs hourly rate on the recept. and then, just for good mesure, having to sit through credits of everyone involved with the store before your allowed to leave O.o
I think that everyone should have to carry around papers with them that states their income. Or better yet, a badge with their photo with their income on it. Yeah. Fuck this type of control.
The FTC can go screw themselves. Who the hell do they think they are to tell this world without borders what we have to do!
The internet is not Canada or the US or the UK, its a brand new world apart from the physical limitations of distance and borders.
Online policing will always be up for debate. Do the FTC have any power online, not likely. What are they going to do? They are just ticked that they are irrelevant. TV isn't as important as it used to be, let em try to bully us!
our government is becoming more and more tyrannical. get ready for the return of fairness doctrine legislation, net neutrality regulations, and many other fascist laws
you have partners :], yeah i want to know how much someone gets paid to sell out :p they already get paid by youtube i want to know how much money they get to try to be all friendly then sell me some bull shit camera
If everyone refuses to follow the FTC on saying how much you were paid, they can't do anything to a couple million people.
This is how we stand up for our rights. When rights are taken away or laws imposed on us we take matters into our own hands because it is our right. If this a right you believe in then stand up for it and give the FTC the middle finger and gtell them to fuck off.
Again, the FTC cant do anything to a couple million people if we stand up.
A requirement like making people state how much they were paid would sure slow down the process of blogging. Sounds like too much of a hassle. Would they punish us if we didn't? How about the big coporation that owns celebrity trash magazines like National Enquier having to state in bold print how much people are paid to say bad things about celebrities? That is how they get those ridiculous and untrue stories in the first place!
I read the guide and I couldn't see that the actual dollar amount had to be disclosed (I could have missed something of course). It appears required to disclose the nature of a relationship between a company and the endorser, such as the endorser stating they work for the company that makes the product, or saying they received payment for their endorsement, or saying they received the product free for their review. But I don't see that you need to state "I got $240 to say it", just "I got paid".
I think there needs to be greater transparency so that viewers and readers can know when you think a product is awesome and when you're BEING PAID to think a product is awesome. If this is the FTC's solution to this issue then I guess people will have to deal with it.
I've never done a paid endorsement. I endorse a LOT of products for free because I like them. What about when I get a review unit and write about it. I don't think I ever did an official video review on any of my freebies. Damn it's nice seeing you. :) *hugs*
Then I'm okay. The very nature of a review unit is that it comes from the company. In my written reviews, I always mention they sent it to me. I haven't done a video review yet. I never opened my review channel.
Its a good idea to make people show if they are paid and by who because the more money you get the more likely it is the product is lacking , if a product is HQ they do not need the floggers to make the shareholders money right , but if the investors do not get a good return and the product is just sad , it is insult to injury . plus how can the govt tax your few remaining penny's if you do not tell them you have some - good luck clawing back coin from the Jack boot thug govt - lol
Probably just the fact you got paid, not exactly the amount. I guess you don't have pretend you're not getting paid when you are. They already do report celebs endorsement deals, with Nike, etc. but on the small scale it's kind of sneaky, for someone to product place and pretend they're not getting paid for it even though it's obvious. People will judge regardless, so screw them. lol Hope you're doing well Panda! Miss ya.
Well the watchers are the reason there is revenue given, so it is only right for the viewers to know how much money people are making off of them. If this becomes an issue I think the companies will list how much money each person got from advertising. Thus one doesn't have to list how much they made from the advertisement, but the company still has the right to tell their potential customers how much money went to advertise.
lol, well the disclosure alone in twitter would fill most of the 140 allowable characters. Just another example of government interference and trampling on freedom of speech.
Well, I'm just a kid so I wouldn't know any better but that sounds like over stupid. Mostly because it'll make you all look like you're just doing that to get the money not to have fun with the product and tell others they should experience the funness..
In addition, most credible bloggers already abide by full disclosure principles. So its really only going to affect the people who use product placement in tweets , videos etc without disclosing.
meaning you only have to disclose that you indeed have a relationship with the marketer or advertiser. Its been standard practice in traditional media and the same rules apply. Again, you don't have to state the amount, just that you were compensated in someway. Honestly I think its better because eventually non disclosure will become disclosed and you will just look like a liar where as honesty in reviews of products and full disclosure gives the viewer a better representation of the truth

We should start a trend starting with YouTubers.
In our videos we do our normal thing and then give the FTC the finger.
They'll get the message and it will also send a powerful message to people world wide if a lot of people stand together on this.
