  • the Piano sounds freakin awfull -.-

  • Bravissimo

  • AGUANTE ARGENTINA

  • ke bueno excelente AWESOME NICE para vos eminem ke toca nepes,JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJ.

  • My last name is Corea! :D

  • Hijo de mil put.sss!!!

  • Dave's come a long way and his technique is unbelievable, but I think I still enjoy the earlier stuff with the electronic tom toms better lol....(check out his solo on "Rumble" with the Elektric band at the Maintenance Shop. Video is on YT and my channel).

  • alien callings

  • Dave Weckl's playing is as smooth as Spumante.....

  • スゲーー!

  • Never mention Peart in the context of any other Jazz drummer.

    Sacrilege.

  • @@#ing Amazing!! This is music.........Unlike the crap you see on TV these days.

  • Dave Weckl is god.

  • One person favors Travis Barker instead.

  • crazy stuff; I'm not sure what is more amazing, Weckls' technique, or Chick's ability to keep up with him on the hits. And they appear to be "messing around" !

  • BETTER than Neil? C'mon - give musicology its props - first came Neil, THEN came Dave. Can't tell ME Dave didn't benefit from those who came before - whether Neil (a rather unfair comparison, considering their differing styles and genres) or, more linearly, Steve Gadd, who was Chic's drummer before Dave came along (in fact, was prob'ly still in diapers when SG was laying it down...)

  • @phlyeguy The fuck r u guys talking about, weckl is only 5 years younger than peart....and any true musician knows neil is a fucking overrated drummer and weckl is better than him any day any time, no matter what..its just fact dude

  • @paisteguy799 Dave Weckl is not better than Neil, they just play different kinds o music...there's noway to say a musician is better than another at this level man....

  • @TheHardCore89 people have no idea how good jazz players are at every other type of genre, neil cant play anything weckl can, and trust me ive met weckl, sat next to him playing multiple times, and im 100 percent sure he can play everything neil plays in rushes music or w/e with better time, feel, and chops, its a fact neil peart really isnt that good

  • @paisteguy799 Just let me ask you something: having different styles of playing and music, how can you say one is better than the other?

In my opinion, there's no better drummer or worse drummer. There's only different drummers....

  • @gimli1980 usually, id agree with u, BUT, we are talking about dave weckl here, and im srry but, certain drummers, like colaiuta, buddy rich, or new guys like gavin harrison and chris coleman, are certainly better than other drummers of other styles, im not saying neil isnt great, but he just isnt at the level of weckl, hed admit it to himself any day of the week, im sure of it

  • @paisteguy799 just letting you know that i made a comment on your line of comments, only to a person on the opposing side of your argument. just seemed necessary to inform you since everyone seems to be commenting towards you, and you wouldn't have known otherwise unless someone else commented on one of your comments. if that makes sense.... comment. ok, i'm done. does the word "comment" sound weird to you now? comment, comment..... funny word....

  • @zooby11isbambam Hmmm... c.1400, L. commentum in L.L. "comment, interpretation," lit. "invention," neut. pp. of comminisci "to contrive, devise," from com- intens. prefix + base of meminisse "to remember," related to mens (gen. mentis) "mind." Original L. meaning was "something invented;" taken by Isidore and other Christian

theologians for "interpretation, annotation." The verb is from c.1450.

  • @fetymann wow... now it sounds really weird... lol

  • @paisteguy799 - yeah, yeah - this coming from someone who's so proud of the sound of garbage can lids you use it in your name. Thanks, but I think I'll take your comments as the same noise you obviously produce as a drummer...assuming you are one (and that's a HUGE leap...)

  • @phlyeguy dude lets just suffice it to say that dave weckl is better at most things... ok lets be honest, almost everything than neil pert. i am a huge pert fan and a huge weckl fan, and a lot of the time i'd rather listen to rush than chick corea's electric band/the dave weckl band, but you couldn't attach a car battery to my nutsack to make me say "neil pert is a better- or even the same level- drummer than dave weckl". that's like saying zakk wylde is as good a guitar player as paul gilbert.

  • perfect timing with corea, awesome creativity teqchnique and rhythmic awareness.....God playing drums....

...and What would happen if Vinnie and Dave had a child?!?!?huahua

  • This guy is not human, nobody can play his musics

  • That ring modulator at 48 is music to both my brains.

  • check the keyboard warriors below

  • What is the name of the song?

  • @NacoMan08 CTA

  • Weckl is fantastic but part of me is just dying to see this guy go into a flat out, matched grip "bash-n-trash" drum solo... max speed, max volume, max power with LESS dynamics... I know, he's "not that kind of drummer" but I'd love to see his take on a heavy metal drum solo...

  • @Skankmaster90 I knew what you meant to say. And my response is still the same. I don't care what you specifically regard me as, I was making a generalization, the logic is the same. You voiced an opinion, I voiced an opinion, we disagree. Read the comments if you want to see who, both times, started talking shit first. First with the other people posting, then with me(I only sweared in my comment, I never insulted you, presenting a logical argument doesn't = shit talk). Either way, just stop.

  • @TheStudioDankster I don't remember you, but reading back on this, I feel that it's my responsibility to let you know that you are one of the biggest faggots I've ever come across on here, and that If you actually type the same way you talk, then I feel generally scared for the chances of you losing your virginity . By the way, don't put shit to do with weed in your "Youtube" name, it's gay. What are you? A 14 year old skater-kid?

  • @Skankmaster90 I'm guessing your just trolling now. If you really are serious then hey, whatever man; clearly your right. I'm a 14 year old virgin skater-kid faggot fag from faggotsville that was totally trying to be edgy with a reference to a music journalist, the coolest & edgiest of people, in his youtube name (unlike you, who is obviously, in fact, a skank master). You are clearly a grown man who just calls it like he see's it. You win. Stop now?

  • @TheStudioDankster Ya, you caught me, my bad. But that doesn't change the fact that you love a firm ass pounding topped off with a picture worthy cum load shot up your back.

  • @Skankmaster90 So am I or am I not a virgin? Which is it?

  • @TheStudioDankster Well that depends on your outlook on virginity, have you ever had sexual intercourse with a woman? Likely not. Have you ever received a rough ass pounding at the hands of a large bearded man? more than likely. Virgin? yes, however your butt cherry has been broken.

  • @Skankmaster90 Thanks for clarifying.

  • I wouldnt want to hear classic Rush albums with Weckl playing drums and I wouldnt want to these Chick Corea arrangments with Peart backing him up. they have their own voices and both are incredible musicians. they reached that level of musicianship by hitting the practice room hard, not knocking drummers on youtube videos

  • Hey men, stop argueing about who the hell is better, every drummer has its own style, so you can't compare them. Music is magic

  • @leodqv

There still are better magicians than others. Yet you're right, it's basically taste to judge on who's the best for you.

  • neil writes way better lyrics than dave. that's my ridiculous addition to a silly argument.

  • Love how Chick puts in all his weird laser sounds during the solo... These guys were so awesome in the late 80's and early 90's. Great Fusion.

  • i like when stupid people argue over who is the better drummer. heres a formula i use to avoid arguments. neil peart is the best for rock, weckl is the best for this style music. and travis barker is useless. weckl does a lot of stuff neil couldn't do, and neil does a lot of stuff weckl can't do.

  • The thing is: Jazz/Classical players can do Rock and Metal stuff, cause they study the hardest things and the most complicated harmonies, in this case drum patterns etc ...

But only a few Rock/Metal musicians, speacially on drums, can do Jazz things.

I believe than Weckl can do the things Peart do and vice versa. Cause they are people who worked so much that they can do everything. Peart is one of the few's, he also played jazz on BR Tribut.

They just have different ways of playing.

  • @pgv2007 True, but Weckl specializes in his style. Neil did study jazz and big band stuff for while. but no matter what he'll always be a rock drummer.

  • @Skankmaster90

I hate to say it, but there is absolutely nothing Neil can do technically on the drums that Weckl can't do. Either you don't know much about drums or you aren't really listening. Peart's hand chops aren't even CLOSE. His phrasing is nowhere near as complex. His dynamic control isn't in the same league. He's still an all-time great, but it's time to stop pretending there's not different degrees of skill here. Weckl would utterly confound Peart in a drum battle.

  • @TheLastPictureShow Can you read at all? "Peart's hand chops aren't even CLOSE" well yes, that's my point. Chops are used more in jazz then they are in rock. Which is why Weckl (a JAZZ drummer) Would be better at them. As for the drum battle, it would depend on who's judging. A bunch of scarf wearing Starbucks dwelling MAC using "Artsy" people (Jazz fans) Or Classic rock fans, which FAR outnumber the queers. Watching Weckl play "La villa strangiato" or "YYZ" might even be kind of funny.

  • @Skankmaster90

Really? Because I didn't see you make that point ANYWHERE. And the fact that you're calling jazz fans "queers" just shows what a classless doof you are. It doesn't take a MAC or a scarf (and certainly not starbucks- gross) to recognize superior musicianship. Just your ears.

Weckl would rip through YYZ or La Villa Strangiato, easily. Get real.

  • @TheLastPictureShow But would it sound half as good? No. Weckl playing Pearts stuff would sound like a Travis Barker drum solo. Peart playing Weckl's stuff would sound just as bad. Am I a Peart fan or a Weckl fan? neither I'm a fuckin drumming fan. Do i have a preference? The one that sounds better. Which in my opinion is Peart. Are Jazz fans all either old people or "moca latte" drinking fags. From my own personal expierience, yes. You think Weckl is better. that's great! i disagree.

  • @Skankmaster90

Well you're meeting a Jazz fan/musician right now and

    A. I'm not gay

    B. I don't drink coffee

    C. I don't own a MAC

It's funny that you resort to the "well, that's your opinion...man" argument since everyone who disagrees with you is a "moca latte drinking fag".

In other words: you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Carry on.

  • @TheLastPictureShow Well you see. Being a one sided blind arrogant fool like yourself, you probably look past things like "this is my personal experience" Which is 100% true. Where I live, and from my views, Jazz fans are 90% of the time "artsy" scarf wearing people, the same way Twilight fans are 90% of the time stupid 14 year olds. I know that not everyone is going to agree with me, which is why i said "that's just my opinion. I'm not gunna try to preach to you, It's like arguing with a wall.

  • @Skankmaster90 lol You brought it up. I highly doubt you mentioned it for no reason, and the way you said it implied that you believe that it is fact, not just a personal experience. If im talking to someone about, lets say, mac vs pc. and in the middle of what I was saying i blurted out "after all, most mac users are drug addicts!". the person im talking to is gonna be like wtf? and is gonna say something to the contrary. How does that make a person blind, arrogant or a fool? just my $.02

  • @Skankmaster90 starbucks dwelling mac using artsy people? funny. your views on music and music fans are fucking off to say the least. if anything, more yuppies (pretty much who your referring to) listen to top 40 and pop, and maybe the few that dont might act smug, but thats far from how most jazz fans are. In fact most musicians are jazz fans, some earlier on, some later in life, it has nothing to do with elitism.

  • @TheStudioDankster Why must you get so exited and throw a little tantrum over someone who doesn't agree with you on the internet? You really felt that you needed to leave 2 consecutive comments? Honestly what are you hoping to gain here? I'm always going to think Neil is better. Why are you trying to make everyone think in the same narrow minded way that you do? what are you a Jehova's witness? Calm down. Keep your opinion, and spare me and anyone else that wants to watch this video your shit.

  • @Skankmaster90 LOL right. im HELLA pissed right now. i gave MY OPPINION as you like to put it. It had nothing to do with neil pert or weckl, both are awesome. It had to do with you making a stupid comment and me interjecting, but obviously youtube comments are only spawned out of blind rage! AHH! Its a comment board man, people are gonna respond to the shit you say... Literally everything you just said can be applied to your previous comments as well, or do you not realize this? fuck it...

  • @TheStudioDankster Once again. I gave an "opinion" which is my personal take on something. Now you can do 3 things when you read someone else's opinion. You can accept it and move on with life. You can dwell on it and try to change their opinion to match your own for some reason. Or you can just bitch and complain about something you don't like on the internet. I get it. Everyone gets it, you disagree. Thats fantastic and I'm happy for you, but in all honesty, i could not give and less a fuck.

  • @Skankmaster90 Let me break this down for you. Ive had no intention to change your opinion. I haven't been mad or 'dwelling on it'. Take your own logic and apply it to yourself. You, because you disagreed with someone's 'opinion', called jazz fans + those who disagree with you fags(for the most part) amongst other words. Do you not see this? ITS OK. You have the right to say this, and i have the right to call you a retard. No one is 'mad', no one is trying to change opinions, its simple really.

  • @Skankmaster90 And if you don't give a fuck, you have an interesting way of showing it.

  • @TheStudioDankster like i may be inclined to give a bit of a fuck if you didn't have the tendency to write more than one comment in a row. Nobody want's to read all that dribble.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheStudioDankster Hahaha funny comments you guys... especially considering you both type, and in my opinion, think exactly alike and have similar sounding names having to do with weed... To me it just seems like this is one person yelling at themself and contradicting themself. but it's funny as hell and i'm not being sarcastic lol

  • @Skankmaster90 Just stop. That sentence made no sense, I dont give a fuck that I left 2 comments in a row. What is your point? Because youtube limits each post by length that somehow makes you care more or makes me some sorry fool? Read what I wrote. I think your a retard, you think I'm a retard. That's it. There's no more too it than that.

  • @TheStudioDankster Where did it not make sense? I would be glad to explain. I don't think you're a retard (even though you seem to have trouble reading) I'm just trying to explain that... hmm... here I'll try to use a diagram. See this number ---> 0 . That is the total number of fucks i give. I'm willing to listen to other people and their opinions. But once that person starts crossing the "shit line" Then the name calling ensues and a big pointless "shit war" breaks out. then it's no fun.

  • @Skankmaster90 Hahaha funny comments you guys... especially considering you both type, and in my opinion, think exactly alike and have similar sounding names having to do with weed... To me it just seems like this is one person yelling at themself and contradicting themself. but it's funny as hell and i'm not being sarcastic lol

  • Honestly what's the point in saying this drummer or that drummer is better? Just take in what they're doing... learn from it, enjoy it and have fun with it. Every drummer has their own style, that's what makes it so interesting. There is no best, there never will be a "best" drummer, that's all up to the viewer on their choice of style. Stop with the crap already, nobody will win, try actually enjoying it instead.

  • damn awsome sound control

  • its not about who is better, listen to the other guy, go kill yourselves. you dont know shit ovbiously, if your comparing weckl to peart or anyone!!!!!

  • what the fuck are you talking about?

comparing two drumming masters and legends?!

do me a favor and go kill yourselves...

  • good drumming, Dave, but Ringo was cooler. LoL

  • seriously?!?!!?

  • lolololol

  • Dave Weckel over Peart hands down. Any thinking drummer will tell you that. If you think otherwise then I guess we are dealing with mere amatuers. PERIOD, NUFF SAID.

  • yea um your a retard...neil peart and dave weckl are probably same level as they're both masaters and professionals obviously your a mere amature to both of them PERIOD NUFF SAID

  • Ahhh, you're just a child and hence disqualified from comment. Neil is good but no Dave. Go practice your parrididdles son.

  • IMHO I bet Dave could play anything that Neil Peart can but I do not believe Neil could do the same. Especially when it comes to swing or any type of jazz for that matter. Both are amazing drummers to say the least. But I have to give the nod to Dave. He's just so MONSTER !!

  • the description is so gay coz chick corea could play drumms but he is a piano player not a drummer ok ....bitch

  • I'm a drummer, and of course nowhere NEAR as good as this guy. All of you keep in mind that that's ALL this guy does. His career is drumming. If most drummers had the time to play that guys like Weckl do, there would be MANY more kickass drummers in the world. Don't get discouraged by his amazing playing. Let it inspire you, because there was a time when Dave Weckl was a shitty drummer. He played a lot, and got to be great. Keep this in mind while being blown away by this guy's playing...PEACE!

  • this guy is awsome if he learned from a teacher or self tought he obviously had the passion to push it this far and play to his fullest capeability

  • what the hell are u talking about? he is a great drummer, and every musician there is just amazing. Though, musicians you're naming are monsters too.

  • Damn Neil Peart fans will never give up. there's no way in hell that Neil Peart blows someone as prolific as Dave Weckl out of the water. You really need to do your research man. but Neil Peart isn't horrible...

  • umm... as for one aspect of your bloviation, I've done my research and I have concluded from allthe video's and concerts that I have seen and Dave Weckl learning video's, that I have heard, he is, out of the people I mentioned above, the worst out of all of them. I also didn't mention Rod Morgenstein, but calling me a Damn Neil Peart fan is obtuse, but your entitled to opine. I never said, "He wasn't a good drummer."

  • But I feel that you might have just latched onto this one person and you can't deviate from that, so your not hearing what I am and have heard. So, as far as Neil Peart goes, he hasn't written a drum track that are even remotely the same for any of his almost 400 songs, and he just gets better and better. Weckl hasn't done nearly what Peart has accomplished and still forges ahead on every new CD written and produced, and the same goes for all of the other Drummer's I mentioned.

  • Look I have no obsessions with Dave Weckl, I just know that he isn't blown out of the water by Neil Peart. Weckl is as much a jazz fusion master as Peart is a progressive rock master. you can prob. tell that i don't think Peart is a bad drummer, but Weckl is most definitely as prolific, we happen to be talking about drummers who play almost entirely different styles of music.

  • now what your saying actually makes sense :)

the guy your argueing with....not so much :P

  • Your right. Dave weckl is better than neil peart period

  • @crazychickendrummer2

    Without a freakin' DOUBT!

In fact, I would love to see peart try and rock anything CLOSE to Weckl's chops.

  • @crazychickendrummer2 there is not even a comparison. It's not even close. Neil Peart is a good Rock drummer but he doesn't have these kind of chops nor does he even the same kind of virtuosic tool box of licks and styles to draw from. That said, there are those who like Neil better not because he is better but they just like him better. That's not me though. I have way more fun playing Jazz then I ever did playing rock. Rock drumming is very limited.

  • @crazychickendrummer2

Weckl and Peart are totally different types of drummers, Weckl comes from the Buddy Rich school of drumming, keep it fluid and artistic. Peart comes from the hard rock school which is all about precision. Comparing the two is like comparing apples and bananas...

  • @aegisgfx ya a rotten banana:peart bright delicious apple:Weckl

  • @crazychickendrummer2

    um... yes?

  • @crazychickendrummer2 ummmm... was there some debate on that? :P

  • +1 .

  • Fantastico!

  • i think the top yammaha series is very great. But i like Gretsch USA custom better.

  • I bet Yamaha pays the most =)

  • The only drum company that is the hands-down best sound is (DW) Drum WorkShop. They are the most expensive Drum-Set there is.

  • @JeffWaltonsDrumsL Sorry bro, but yamaha, dave weckl drums no comparison.

  • Actually Yamaha make quite fantastic drums, like their Oak Custom. And their hardware is some of the best.

  • @jamesstephens0 agreed, only pearl hardware is better

  • ...except that he's used both Sabian and Yamaha for a decade or 2. What are you talking about?

  • Haha, a funny little blast beat at 0:50 !

  • nice!

  • The song is CTA

  • Dave is the best!! GREAT!!

  • What's the name of the song?

  • I think is "CTA"

  • Wow! Thank you so much! You're right!

  • Man I loves me some Dave Weckl!!! But all ya all don,t forget about my main man Vinnie Coliuta who was kickin some bad grooves with baddest of the bad FRANK ZAPPA back in the day!!

  • I thought Terry Bozzio was Zappa's drummer? Or were they both?

  • Hey I accidentally gave you thumbs down sorry, and yes they were both Zappa drummers.PEACE

  • Its all good. I was just confused on that one when you said that because i knew Bozzio was, but not Coliuta. Thanks for the info.

  • Yeah man always glad to pass on some info, check out Joes Garage and Tinsel Town Rebellion for some SUPER SICK Vinnie drumming!! The drumming on the verse section of Keep It Greasy and all of Joes Garage for that matter is THE BOMB,especially considering it was back in the 70's!! Tinsel Town Rebellion is TOTALLY KILLER live stuff and ALSO ROCKS!!! PEACE

  • whateverman has it right - there are a lot of good guys and gals out there and they are all the best at their own thing. Its great that we can see/hear so much so easily.

  • Best alive? No - but I would have a hard time coming up with more than a few people I think are contenders :)

I actually like Benny Grebb better for some reasons, and Virgil Donati is one of the sickest mofos alive. Simply put, I place Dave in a group of maybe a dozen "all around godly" drummers.

    I hate comparing musicians though

  • If you ever sit around and wonder "whos the best?" This guy is close...

  • dave weckl is the best alive drummer!he and hes style is so inovative and unique..that's why i like him...

  • This guy plays like Tony williams kinda but technically better.Just leaves all of em in dust ..Steve gadd dennis chambers jeff porcaro ..You never will be timeless like this guy will. This guy has evolved drumming ...

  • I don't think he plays like TW at all. I see a lot of Gadd in him but most of all he sounds like Dave Weckl and he leans toward Superfluity.

I think he's on a mission for perfection and while his skills can be hugely admired, he isn't a particularly musical drummer and doesnt possess the sort of timelessness of Tony Williams for example.

I can say this explicitly after seeing Weckl live.

  • i think he is one of the most musical drummers there is... especially of the " drummers drummers" .

  • he is maybe the greatest living drummer, in technique, in creativity, in fantasy.... but really, I don't success to esteem him cause his bad bearing when he plays, he transmit me "...look how I am cool! you'll never success to do that".... But really, I don't see in the world another drummer in so high level. I prefer a drummer less good in technicque, in fantasy, but transmit me enjoyment to play music.

  • I totally agree.

  • dave weckl is the sh*t! i love watching his solos on video. i saw his clinic in dallas in dec 2003. its even more badass when you see him live.

  • What's the name of the song?

  • WECKL, cada vez melhor !!!!!!!!!

  • In the world,my favorite drummers are the hungaryan drumerz...thoose are Borlai Gergő, Solti János...

    Check them out!

    I think...Dave Weckl's play equal Borlai's play: great endurance,tech,sound.

Solti János equal Steve Gadd: Great groove sound, funk max...and love :)

I think toose are the best in da world...

Only Buddy can do owned for it :P :)
