Doc Boone realizes that The Kid was a kid when he went to the pen and that his life was stolen from him and is pondering the injustice of it. There's plenty of references to sex, which is included in that, but that look is about more than sex.
That's at least the second hint at something sexual by Thomas Mitchell in this film. The gesture to the prim women as the coach left was one. The other is here at about 7:50. "How old were you when you went to the pen, Kid?" "'Bout 17." His face afterwards was a picture. I'd speculate he's thinking along the lines, Kid's a virgin. No wonder he falls for the first eligible woman he sees. This was the role for which he got Best Supporting Actor that year, I think. John Ford was a genius.
@madmax8903 aye i agree on the 17 comment .. but being that ford did the movie i really expected billy to say "homeric" haaheh.. only true wayne fans will understand.
Claire Trevor is very lovely indeed. I love her movies so much. They are so hard to find. I have found quite a few though at lovingtheclassics I just googled lovingtheclassics after reading about them on another youtube classic (i think it was alan ladd)

I'd beat her with a whip and she'd always listen.
You're wife?
No, the horse. I'll never find another horse like that again. A wife, sure. But never a horse.
LOL That was classic.
