Not every woman who wants/chose to abort chose the have unprotected sex. In some cases contraception fails. Both the pill and a condom have roughly a 1% at failure. In other cases women and girls are forced to have sex.
As far as physical problems go. If you are diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy, carrying to term is suicide in most cases. There are other "problems" that can leave you dead or disabled as well.

If it does, then it should obviously be legislated against because the baby's right not to be killed trumps the mother's "right to chose" to kill it. The beginning doesn't matter.

A brain, consciousness are not qualifiers for human life in situations outside of the womb. When the unique DNA is formed by the fusion of the sperm and egg cell then there is a person created. You are not a person because you think and talk, its because you have an identity and that identity is essentially based on your DNA.

how it affects the woman who gets the abortion is a secondary issue. The primary issue is whether or not abortion ends a life. If it does, then it should obviously be legislated against because the baby's right not to be killed trumps the mother's "right to chose" to kill it. So, at what point does a life begin? how you answer that might depend on what you think about the nature of consciousness. I think it would be possible tho to b a materialist and still think that life begins at conception.

The general idea of "life" is flawed, especially sentient "life". You just can't look at an embryo, fetus or even a baby and rightfully say that it's a person. It isn't. It has no personality, no defining aspect, no ability to think for itself, nothing. The only real issue is suffering, hence the reason why abortion is restricted to a few weeks after conception. The beginning doesn't matter.

If its conscious and feels and experiences, its alive and human life should be protected at any stage in its development. One of the key issues then is when does it become conscious? how you answer that will depend on your view of the nature and origin of the mind and its relationship to the brain.

Why should human life be protected at any stage? Explain yourself. Some live because of us and some die because of us. The best we can do is not purposely kill any. We have the right to life too and we are part of nature. @NocaCoco I was talking about a social contract to protect life and liberty for mutual benefit, as part of the answer to why life should be protected in a human society in general, but I wanted to also stress our capacity to actually care about others and not just do it for selfish reasons. Fetuses & babies can't enter into a contract but we protect them because we recognise that their lives have value & bcos they are living beings & so worthy of our care and compassion.

@InnocenceExperience yes it is, I am a atheist who thinks the life of a person begins when their DNA is formed. That is the true start of you as a person, your identity. A brain, consciousness are not qualifiers for human life in situations outside of the womb. When the unique DNA is formed by the fusion of the sperm and egg cell then there is a person created. You are not a person because you think and talk, its because you have an identity and that identity is essentially based on your DNA.

A child is not less human because it cannot comprehend complex abstract concepts just like a fetus is not less human because it does not have self awareness. And like you said, why does the woman's right to get an abortion triumph a person's right to life?
