Phenomenal performance of one of the greatest songs of all time. Simon's bass tone is incredible for starters, sounds like it's from another world. Whole band are outstanding. Loose but tight, funky, heavy and melodic all at the same time. McCabe should be spoken about with the greats and Ashcroft was an oustanding frontman before his ego took over. Stunning video. Thank you very much for posting, brings back so many memories
i love exit calm the band from barnsley who are influenced heavily by the verve but they dont quite achieve the power and swagger that verve did around this time. ashcroft was amazing back then and mccabe looks cool as fuck. imagine bein sum american who had never heard of them and just happened to go down the club to see who was on and then hear this .mindblowing
@thestrid82 not exactly sure mate,, i read the interview they put up on facebook and the singer said next gig was with pureessance not sure of the date thow.. their gonna be a bit quiet 4 a while by the looks of it workin on the new album.. def wanna hear what they can do after the first bein so strong, gota feelin they will deliver thow
This is absolutely one of my favourite songs, and this video is gorgeous, but the song didn't really work live. I prefer the studio version tbh- it should be soft and mesmerising. Just not a live song.
there was really a certain magic about the verve back than ,and no orther band came close to matching it

@mrrandomviper
Totally agree, seen them back in 1991 and 20 odd times after until the abomination that became Urban Hymns.
McCabe and Jones are great guys.

The guitar at 2:44 is like a frieght train! Love Richard's response there.
This isn't a song it's an experience. Must've melted a few minds that night.

That was a moment in music history. They should show this in schools across the world.

@stormchasers25 Or imagine being a fan of the shitty American band The Verve Pipe and confusing them with this Verve.

Verve forever!

1993 and there is already tension between Ashcroft and Nick McCabe. Watch how Richard turns and faces everyone BUT Nick. Too bad. They were awesome.
