This political spectrum was invented by the John Birch society as anti communist propaganda. They lie about the true political spectrum to fool people who don't understand it, never seen it. Fascism isn't necessarily "far" right, Ayn Rand objectivism is. The far right wing doesn't even exist in modern society and on the far left everything is bad, so what's the use of this spectrum, which has no academic quality? IT'S PROPAGANDA

Now, about Fascism/National Socialism.

The term right wing has been completely divorced from it's original meaning in this video. Right-wing meant adherence to tradition, and is necessarily 'anti-Republican' in that sense. Republics are perfect models dreamt up by idealists, and as such have no place in Classical Conservative theory, which holds organic power structures and prejudice as preferable to Liberal or Libertarian utopias.

So, the term Republic does not exclude Democracy. Sure, some Founders (note some) disliked Democracy because they wanted to the corrupt, elitist and aristocratic Roman 'Republic' (which wasn't radically different from the 'Empire' in the way Nazi Germany is from Weimar Germany) and because of the old anti-democratic wheeze about 'they'll still our land and slaves' but this was not universal. Jefferson called his party 'Democratic Republicans' for a reason.

1) This Republic not a Democracy thing is shit. Sure, Res publica doesn't mean democracy. It means 'Commonwealth' or 'public affairs', and in fact doesn't imply any particular set of government relations, though usually in used the absence of a Monarch. Rome didn't actually call itself the Republic of Rome, officially speaking, it was the Senate and People of Rome (a name that was NEVER dropped).

The problem arises from thinking of the political continuum as mono-dimensional; being a line stretched between the far left and the far right. Likewise the model given here. Both of these are dimensions in their own right.

So the political continuum is two, probably three or maybe even four dimensions. Mapping these axis and finding zones of viable government is a task I leave to others.

It's about putting in place a system where everyone can be equal and trusting of their fellow man, instead of living in fear or envy of your neighbor. You can have a government regulate balance as long as you can trust your leaders to *only* regulate balance. That's why new leaders are needed, because the current suits love being above everyone else.

The person who made this video simplifies complex matters without considering economic dynamics which have immense influences over the government. If a government intervenes in a democracy, it does so on behave of the people. Regulating capital flight or purchasing drugs to lower prices is a form of governmental intervention which benefits the majority (excluding concentrated sectors of power).

Just because the Nazi party called itself Socialist and Russia called itself Socialist does not mean they were Socialist. That's a fallacious argument. I think any left-right one dimension way of looking at it is bullshit. I recommend googling "world's smallest political quiz" for a more accurate way of looking at things. Note though that this quiz is run by a libertarian site and is quite biased towards libertarianism. Also, we must keep in mind that we COULD keep adding dimensions to the test forever. I think even this is a very unhelpful representation. People have different ideas about what exactly the rights are that people should enjoy, not to mention their enforcement. Plus there are the competing ideas as to how society is organised independently from government.

Left and right have tended to mean those who wish to change or preserve (respectively) the traditional distribution of socio-economic power (although nowadays those definitions often don't hold true).
