Patrick Wilson is OK, but no one will ever replace Steve Barton. On the other hand, Emmy Rossum is a much better Christine than Sarah Brightman ever was. Her voice is much more beautiful - she doesn't have that shrill shreechiness that Sarah has. And for whatever it's worth, Emmy is far more beautiful than Sarah.

@fischerman46 The part of Christine was literally written for Sarah Brightman. While that doesn't guarantee it being perfect for her, Sarah has both the range and the power to support it. I think Emmy's voice sounds best when she's singing a bit lower in her range-- the higher she goes, the more brittle her sound gets. Her voice is too delicate for a song that requires so much power and her vibrato is tenuous, not nearly as refined as Sarah's. All that being said, she did a commendable job.

@TheCreeperQueen I think Emmy's voice is perfectly fine for the part. 1st Soprano's ( the singers not the family ) lol, generally sound thin to me anyway when they're way up top! I've always appreciated the warm, buttery rich sound of the 2nd sopranos' They're mixed to the right balance of range and power...to me!. But the 1st soprano is completely important. Patrick's Tenor voice is great also, though one of the best Tenors I've heard is Ian Rutherford. Phenominal in Les Mis.!

@TheCreeperQueen Don't get me wrong - I'm a big fan of Sarah Brightman's performance in POTO. No one can hit that high note like she can! But I view Christine as a very gentle soul, so I think Emmy's delicate voice is generally well-suited for the part - though I'd have to agree that some of the songs work better with Sarah's stronger voice. I like Emmy and I think she often gets an unfair bad rap for her performance in the movie, so I stick up for her whenever I can!
