  • My first response to agalloch was, they're pretty good, my friend almost killed me saying "PRETTY GOOD!, THEY'RE FUCKING AMAZING" Over time I've come to realise he was right.

  • One day in pre algebra, in 8th grade. 3-4 years ago, I put this album on because an e friend reccomended it and disliked it greatly, but over time, Agalloch has become my favorite band and they mean so much to me. <3

  • Sick Song

  • just listening to this in a dimly lit room with a hot chocolate and closing my eyes

ive never been at more peace with myself

  • What's with boring music being cool now? Like SunnO))) and Meshuggah and bullshit like this? Listen to grindcore.

  • @creativenameisnotava lol nice troll man. possibly because grindcore lacks any feel of true musical composition, emotion and talent.

  • @nadman14 Listen to more fag music then if you want that bullshit you can express yourselves to.

  • @creativenameisnotava k i will.

  • @creativenameisnotava +1 troll points for you!

  • @creativenameisnotava INSECT WARFAAAAAARE

  • The most prominent way I can compare Opeth and this wonderful new discovery of mine.....within about the first 20 seconds of hearing them, I knew I had gold on my hands =]

  • like x inf.

  • Why does it only show my views?!

    LOVE THIS TRIO.

  • Opeth is playing this month in nashville tn,my home town.I really cant get into them, but im going to see them live,I love katatonia, agalloch, anathema.whats wrong with me,on all of these bands comments all i here is opeth,so for a whole week,i will listen to nothing but opeth....cheers

  • If we're going to compare Opeth and Agalloch, we might as well make it clear why they might sound similar or different. Both are essentially extreme metal bands (death metal vs. black metal respectively) with strong rock influences (prog. rock vs. post-rock) and a folky vibe. This may be over-simplifying the matter, but leave it alone and enjoy the music ;)

  • the wind in the background gives the opening the perfect ambience

  • Major Fucking Chills !@#$%^

  • i dont think Agalloch and Opeth sound that much a like at all.

  • @trichomepanther agreed

  • I do understand why there are comparison on here between Opeth and Agalloch. They are two very powerfull and emotional bands who BOTH create some amazing music, but you cannot say one is better than the other because the ARE very different.

  • Going to see Agalloch saturday night. If they play anything off Pale Folklore I can die a happy man.

  • I still don't understand why Opeth and Agalloch are often compare. If they have to be compare : Agalloch > Opeth and by FAR !

  • Huge fan ov Ulver, Opeth and such, first time hearing this band...and sadly I too live in Portland, but they are really good.

  • This band and Wood of Ypres make me feel so wonderful!!!!! So much power and emotion in such incredible music !!

I feel wide open listening to this in my pitch black room for hours..

  • @OpressionOffical SO TRUE! i really love putting an agalloch album when its dark and stormy out, too bad i dont live somewhere where it snows :(

  • Why do even compare Opeth to Agalloch, they are very, VERY different. Agalloch is lightweight, whispering and grey. Opeth is black, dry and dark/black.

  • @DreadMauler you just compared agalloch and opeth....

  • @funkin182 I didn't compare them, I separated them.

  • I think Ill Sleep good now

  • There should be a "love" button for this bad boy.

  • blackmetal at its best when i heard this on a necropolis records sampler i was stunned

  • Simply magic, like Wolves In The Throne Room! But few people are able to understand this music and feel that there is a lot a emotions, beautiful and sadness in it!

    ATMO BLACK METAL 4 EVER

  • Six dislikes? Tell me that's just trolling..

  • @CelestialObscurity we should kill them and paint the skyline with their blood haha

  • This gives me the best fucking feeling. 3:54+ is the most powerful for me.

  • @xGothicloverx fuck yeah! sounds like slow hard, dirty western sex.. y''know? like when youre nailing your girl in an old hotel room, and the sun breaks through the open window.. and everythings all orange and hot.

  • Agalloch is just an amazing band. There are few ones who know how to transport emotions with music like them. Just great art they do.

  • This song is my absolute favorite, ever since I first heard it. It made my heart drop. I felt like I had no soul, or was losing any sense of humanity that was within me. This song truly possessed me. It is beautiful.

  • reminds me of another song; Swallow the sun - plague of butterflies 8)

  • Paradise Lost. Ring any bells?!?!?!?

  • The video description for this can't be anymore true. Much appreciation :D

  • It's been almost 3 years since i wrote that :)

  • @Cubilim so true man, got into these guys way after i got into opeth, and honestly this now means the same as black rose immortal to me :) much love to everyone

  • awhhh thats an understatement, wernt my words self explanitory, shit im loosing my touch, maybe I should go back to Uni get another degree,on how to understand the minds of delinguents,is there any such qualification,I want it NOW!!! hahahaha, your funny....

  • I love this song. Cold, bleak and beautiful.

  • Im obsessed within 'Agolloch' they save my soul from dieing, they open my senses, connect me to the Universe I breath in,they make me sour the skies as the true Raven person I am,they keep me consecrated on a perched enfernal throne, eternally waiting, like a disfigued seraphim guarding Gothic Necro Lords, they set me free..~Vlada~aka Rayvhenwing..

  • I know how it feels......

  • @RAYVHENWING In other words you LOVE their stuff right? haha.

  • @RAYVHENWING lolz. great description. I find this kind of music addicting

  • Great song...

  • Yeah if you're looking for balls out black metal, with screaching and a fast pace, Agalloch is not for you. That's why they're categorized as FOLK black metal.

  • I've never really liked Agalloch, people love them so much i just don't get it, i think they're a good band but i just can't listen to them without getting bored, not trying to criticize the band, i really respect them, maybe it's just me, i just know for a fact i'm never going to like them.

  • @Empyriumman Check out She Painted Fire #2, it is faster paced, etc.

  • You need to listen to the atmosphere in their songs to really get a feel for their style. Basically consider this more of a artistic style of metal.

  • This is the song I want to be played at my funeral

  • @islespatrick I agree! Or part II.

  • i love this band.. its perfect for working to, the growls are so low in the backround you have to acualy listen to them... its very unique

  • I fucking love Agalloch and Opeth...they can't be compared, but they are similar only in how amazing they are. fucking love this song.

  • Nobody comes close to this band in my humble opinion.

They are just soo great,I like the long parts with no vokills,I also really like the vokills in this band too.

Cant say enough about how trully awesome they are.

  • I can't say nobody can come close to this band, but I can say I totally LOVE this song..one of my all time favorites.

  • Agalloch is totally unique. You cant compare them wtih Opeth or any other band.

  • Breathtakingly beautiful, melancholic beauty at its best.

  • YEAHH,,THIS INTRO IS MY END:-))

  • I have laid my baby down many times to Opeth as his lullaby... if I had him in my life anymore, I would lay him down to Agalloch. I love him beyond all things.

  • one of the greatest intros of all time

  • agalloch has grown allot in these past few years. their shows have become better. and they seem to have gained quite the number of fans.

Best song imo: In the Shadow of Our Pale Companigon. (dont u-tube listen it, take your time to fully understand each note)

  • I second that as best song

  • Agalloch = too goodz, too goodz.

  • Well, in my early days of exposure to metal, Opeth and Agalloch were the two bands I liked. I could never see the relation, though, but it seems I'm not alone.

Though I no longer like Opeth, but still like Agalloch, because it has something which keeps one entertained throughout the song, which Opeth lacks.

Enough of this Opeth talk now. Pale Folklore is a superb album, and I'd rate it better than Ashes Against the Grain (not The Mantle, though, as it is my favourite)

  • @Rohit300tr00 I Agree on the Opeth part. When Agalloch gets repetetive it has a meditative..hypnotic quality to it. When Opeth does it its just frustrating.

  • opeth and agalloch are my fave bands at the moment

  • Opeth and Agalloch are both unique bands, I hardly see the point in comparing the two.

Though, like many people here, I really wouldn't count black rose immortal as one of Opeth's best, hell, its not even the best on Morningrise.

  • The Night and the Silent Water or To Bid You Farewell get my vote.

  • Now Playing in SublimeMusicTV

  • FANTASTIC!!!

  • I don't think Black Rose Immortal is necessarily a classic Opeth song... Aside from maybe the "kvlt" wannabes.

  • i have never considerd black rose immortal anywhere near my top opeth songs, and i love opeth

this and part 2 and 3 are so epic

  • The trilogy from Ashes Against the Grain (Our Fortress is Burning I,II and III) remind me of Black Rose Immortal a bit more... But Agalloch is truely wonderful.

  • cool song!

A bit of the intro strangely reminds me of The eye in the sky from Alan Parsons

  • 5/5

  • Well I'm very familiar with Opeth, and if this is Agalloch's "Black Rose Immortal", it's worth a listen.

  • Fucking best song. I love it :P

  • Agalloch Is:

    John Haughm - vocals/guitar

    Don Anderson - guitar

    Jason William Walton - bass

    Shane Breyer - keyboards

Chris Greene, Aesop Dekker - drums

  • Both Agalloch and Opeth are in my top 5 favorite bands and both bands have masterpieces such as this and black rose immortal

  • mm indeed fine chap

  • unbelievable awesome

  • Be water my friend LOL

  • Damn, I vote four stars by accident, I wanted to click on five.:(

  • This trio is probably my favorite Agalloch song, but without a doubt "The Mantle" is my favorite album from them. It's the best musical and emotional representation of winter I've ever heard.

  • Everytime I liten to Agalloch on here I read OPETH!!!

  • Because all the Opeth fans discovered Agalloch and are now comparing the bands.

  • That growling sigh is awesome.

  • Agalloch are pretty fucking great if you asked me.

  • like this a lot!! can´t really compare this to any other (metal)band.. pt2 is worth listening too, they are from united states,so i was told..GREETINGS FROM FINLAND METAL PEOPLE!!!!!

  • I agree. They're based an hour from me. Of course we can't compete with European metal-yet!!! Hails to Finland!

  • Thick fucking idiots i didn't say Agalloch were posers, some guy said he couldn't understand why a single metalhead could dislike Agalloch which is why i said because they are posers. Fucking class A windowlickers

  • Agalloch give me goosebumps. Their music is beautiful.

    So is Opeths.

    I agree with your comparison.

    :)

  • agalloch... is it said like agalock cos all the shops ive been to have no idea

  • It's pronounced Agalock.

  • thanks

  • i really think falling snow is better :|

  • i honestly dont know wat to say there is no word in the dictionary that can describe agalloch ive been listening to them for a few weeks...i love them they are like, all on my playlist..no lie.

  • I can't for the life of me figure out why a single metalhead could even dislike a band as amazing as Agalloch.

  • Because they are posers?

  • Amd chances are they're a billion times more talented than you'll ever be.

  • Umm.. what?

  • hes saying the people who dislike agalloch are posers

  • posing what ..? your just shooting without meaning

  • Agalloch IS as good as Opeth. They added "folk" into their genre so not flat out black metal. Black metal friends I know on line, and other black metal bands LOVE Agalloch.

  • This trio of songs hooked me 150% into Agalloch. Brilliant. Awesome.

  • Meh, I like both of their clean vocals. They both serve their purpose. I really like Akerfeldt's clean vocals but Haughm's clean vocals also hook me while recieving the same amount of interest. (I tried to make as much sense out of that sentence as possible..)

  • I can disagree.

Agalloch are completely different to Opeth, not to mention, more preferable, to me personally.

    Akerfeldt's clean vocals are boring.

  • i disagree with saying Åkerfeldt's clean vocals being boring, but the only way you can really compare them to Opeth is in terms of both having good taste in writing and strong atmosphere.

  • dude, Opeth is my absolute favorite band, but saying one band is better than another is like comparing glasses of water. glasses might look different or might hold different amounts, but they still hold water dammit.

  • Agalloch deserve some much respect, its such a shame that only a small number of people have come across this amazing band

  • Agreed. Their music is so beautiful.

  • the background effects of the wind and guy walking through the woods adds to the simple opening....

  • it's AG-uh-Lock. wicked trio, beautiful album, kickass band! I can't wait for their next full-lenth.

  • is agalloch pronounced ag-aa-lock

  • Amazing song, Agalloch is my second fav. band behind Opeth

  • One of the best songs Agalloch created. I adore it.

  • This song is the best creation of Agalloch. It embodies a true spirit of creation , it really feels imbued with astral wisdom. The lyrics are incontestabilly brilliant, the intro - the same. What can I say? I am proud to listen to such good music in a world of bad quality and mediocrity. I kneel in front of Agalloch. Hails, forever, my gods...

  • let me kneel next to you brother, Agalloch deserve our respect...you're so right

  • You guys are funny :P

  • No talking...just kneel...

    lol

  • hahah

  • Fucking wicked song, all three parts

  • Beautiful song.

  • işte bu be

  • You must be a more of a thrash, grindcore person. Either that or you're not into metal much

  • You have to be more of a thrash, grindcore person to like folk metal? Uh...huh.

  • What I meant is he IS a thrash, grindcore person which is why he does NOT like it.

  • great song

  • ich liebe es.. <3 :x

  • Such a beautiful song

  • Also you can find the part II uploaded by me a while ago and i cleaned up the whole stupid, irrelevant argument from the topic. If you see something looking like replied to some other thing not there anymore it's me :)

Nothings better than a spring cleaning aaaah....

  • i don´t have words for this song...

  • one of my fanourite ever.

    Keep uploading good songs.

    GOOD JOB DUDE!

  • wonderful song

  • hahahahah did you really check them up?

  • Hope you sink goatboat

  • Hermosa cancion de grandioso albun. Agalloch es clase aparte.. no tiene comparacion con alguna u otra banda, intenso sonido y profundo ambiente el cual crean.

    Saludos desde Venezuela.

  • The world is ending though, one second at a time. You don't have to like the lyrics to like the music.

  • Ace video, but a few images so don't fit, like that skeleton doctor guy, and the houses

  • Sorry i didn't mean to make a fantastic video it's just a filler ;) I am a huge Agalloch fan and i checked the videos before i made this one and i saw there is no video for my favourite song that's why video sucks. Song is the matter

  • I always get into the darker metal once fall season hits and their music fits the mood perfectly. The Mantle is a great album. I would not call it an Opeth knock-off by any means.

  • Agalloch are breathtaking.

  • Agalloch were never black metal. I'd say they are more doom-laden with folk and yes maybe some BM influence.

  • Listen to the stuff from their Demo's They were black metal at one stage. But this stuff really suits them. Ashes Against the Grain is my favourite album personally.

  • I personally have a hard time choosing between" Ashes Against the Grain" and "The Mantle" as my favorite album from them.

On a side note I find it a little humorous that there is a picture of the cover of "the Mantle" in this video when the song is from "Ashes Against the Grain".

  • Actually, propyro85, the song is from "Pale Folklore", but I assume it was just a typo ;).

  • Yep ... that's what happens when you don't sleep.

  • the singing style is still influenced by Black Metal

  • What the hell are you yammering about? Ashes Against the Grain is plenty metal, besides, this is probably their most emotive album to date, though I also love their folk oriented songs as well. Ashes is pure freaking atmosphere. Not "soft" in the least. Great release.

  • Actually, I like the vocals. They're not as aggressive as Death Metal, just a cross between a whisper and a growl.

  • Beautiful music ruined by awful vocals... I have nothing against dm vocals in general, but sometimes they just don't fit. Changing the vocal styles to match the music (as Opeth does) works better for me.

  • Love it. Agalloch are fucking awesome. What is it, however, about the fans that they seem to resent Opeth so much?

  • I have no idea why, they are completely different

  • Why why why they havent got any clips????

  • To be honest, opeth is quite overated, especially their death metal.

  • I love agalloch, but Agalloch's live performances are quite lacking. Go watch the live performance of "Falling snow", he completely misses the vocals and makes guitar mistakes. And I don't see how playing the "guess the song" game (while playing smoke on the water)makes you a poser, You take yourself way too seriously

  • thats cause they dont really even like playing live.. and also they have probrably only played about 30 live shows in there whole career...

  • Beutiful, if i had a cam, id love to post vids of all my fav agalloch songs on guitar, this would be one of them

  • Amazing song, thanks for the upload, I never saw the video for these.

  • Ok, is the first time thatI heard to Agalloch and really they touch me deeply... but you can not to compare with opeth... they are weidest band..... and both are amazing.... where can I get more music of agalloch?
