@PingaloBill The hands are closer together. French is closest, followed by American, followed by German(ic). The angle of the German grip is 90 degrees.
It's funny that I taught this to myself (obviously not as well) playing Rock Band to conserve energy. Rhythm games aren't useless, contrary to popular belief.. -.-
Didn't Dom Famularo get lessons from Buddy Rich when he (Dom) was a lot younger?
I think I remember him saying in one of his drum clinics about 4 years ago that when he was growing up he lived in Chicago and had lessons from Buddy and they'd spend the entire lesson on a practice pad everytime. Genius. Excellent technique as a result.
(at least the name is the newest), but not necessarily so new as to be credited to Dom. Since German is backhand up & French is thumb up, it's valid to name the position in between , where the 1st knuckle & the gap between the 1st finger & thumb are up. It's good for using the advantages of each of the other 2, (more finger control than /German, more power than French),& it's probably used more often by more drummers than the other 2.
Wow, what an awesome teacher! Thanks M. Famularo! I have seen other videos about the moeller technique, and this is the best by far :-) I'll be sure to check his other vids too!
i recon weckl's is better, but that's just me. i like how he reads into it a lot so it's more informative and the camera angle of the vid changes based on what needs to be seen. i love dom though and i recon he's rightfully a respected teacher and player.
French position :)
