It's amazing how many awesome shows have been canceled without giving them a chance to stand out as good as they are. Some shows still even make profit after years of being canceled and there's not hope of coming back. I'm not a big fan of Seth McFarlane, but I'm glad that his show got a second chance. :)

i think he's a genius! using that cut away gag gives the show the easiest way to use whatever halarious skit they want.. it's just like someone saying "you know what would be halarious?!" but it would be next to impossible to impliment it into a story line because of it's complete irrelevence.. This isn't really the origin. Family guy really was spawned from an earlier Seth Macfarlane idea called "the Life of Larry" or something like that. And alot of material from that short toon was reused in Family Guy, including Peter laughing at Tom Hanks saying "I have AIDS" in the movie theater and a british man yelling out the window "I dissagree!". So thats the true beginning of the characters and material. Life of larry can be found here on youtube anyway so look it up.

I think that Quagmire and Cleveland's names are from the election of I think its 1888 in that Grover Cleveland was often said to have had a quagmire, was on quagmire or something of that sort.
