Ok I have a few comments to address . First off liseman that dyi heat gun should have aluminum ends that are 5-6 inches long attached on both ends so one , the gun does not get 2 close and burn the wood and two NO ONE can set it face down and start a fire .

Heat guns operate at 1000 degrees and vaporize lead in paint older than 1973. if this guy's homemade unit heats over 700, he's creating odorless lead vapors!  If he used a bigger paint scraper he would be much more efficient. So much for homemade. Go with the pro ones -speedheater and stay safe.

@cbrooksecostrip Actually it IS SAFE to use Using a heat gun up to 1,100 degrees Fahrenheit .

I am a Master G.C.and fully licensed to do all aspects of lead removal including supervising the removal of lead. on unrestricted Sq building and surfaces .

1,100 is MOST States guidelines.

They sell heat guns that will peal paint as a plus it blows the fumes away.

It may have been better to watch this before posting it.

The environmental friendly approach failed because you kept complaining about the fumes in your environment.

It looks like good fun and full marks for the infra red heat gun.

That said, if you are stripping any paintwork that is more than thirty years old it will probably contain lead. So if there are children around you might be better off using a chemical stripper.

fire risk, very dangerous fumes, risk of skin burns and much more difficult time removing the paint. Chemical strippers are dangerous but are actually less risky in this case if handled properly.

If the paint is from the 1930s it probably contains lead so watch out for the fumes if you heat it (or dust if you use a belt sander).

I think the greenest and cheapest way to remove the paint would be with a sharp cabinet scraper.

Full marks for recycling though !
