Between opening gifts and preparing for Boxing Day sales I got no tIme for church. Even jesus got some great xmas gifts - I wish someone give me some gold.
What song is this? I read it was played by someone in the church but it's based off an older song. My Iphone tags this version as "Gruss An Interlakenwalzer" but that seems wrong.
Christmas is a continuation of the weekly re-sacrifice of the Catholic/Pagan Messiah for the partial atonement of sins with an emphasis on worshippiing Mary. I cannot with a good conscience take part in any celebration built on this foundation.
this comment is comment on some of the comments: The bible talks about people living for really long times. to me it madde sense on a biological level because the various groups of people wre so scattered you would have to probably seacrh for years just to find a partner that u were not a relative too. I think we liev shirter life spans becuase we dont need to look as long to find proper partners to procreate with. thanks for listenin merry christmas, happy holidays.
your on track but also...in biblical days their wasnt all the pollution there is today,,and or as many diseases....that being said air was way cleaner water etc....which is why people lived longer and things in general were greater in size..
the roman catholic church it one of the worlds first corporations....
i personally dont accept any denomination..
if you follow men they will fail you...most of what catholics teach is nowhere in scripture...not to mention all the idols in their chapels....talk about misleading indeed!
I don't know how its possible to rethink an archaic ancient book that contains talking snakes, 900 year old men, burning bushes that talk, and virgin births.
Side note: The whole "virgin birth" speaks volumes on how society views women and sexuality.
And yet, churches and religious organizations do more to help the world than anyone else could hope to. What world do you live in, obiously you don't read how the "church got to this contonent, church and religion is like cancer for the evolution on humanity!
While empathy and compassion may not help the individual it does help what group or community those individuals are in.The better the group does the better the individuals do , the more likely they are to pass down their genes.
Christmas is a secular holiday. Besides, December 25th was originally used to celebrate "the feast of the Son of Isis". Later the Winter solstice was used by Romans to celebrate Saturn, the God of Agriculture. Then when Christ came along in the first century, Pope Julius the 1st declared Dec 25 to be Christ's birthday. You weren't ignorantly celebrating the son of Isis or Saturn were you? Oh, good.
Happy Holidays and Winter Breaks are secular, Christmas is a religious Holiday and last time I checked, the United States of America was not a province of rome.
You're right, The U.S of A is not a province of Rome. So why are you so ready to accept the decision of a Roman Catholic Pope to believe that Jesus' birthday is December 25? Unless of course you have a Bible verse that tells you that fact. Might make for an interesting google search. Why do you accept the 25th as his birthday?
@jasonjasonjason1 Eh, you do know that Dec 25th was chosen to mark the FEAST of Jesus' birth, and not the actual day...right? There are tons of feasts all year long that were chosen for specific (albeit mostly random) days. Why focus on this one? Ah yes, the spread of pernicious misinformation - got ya!
The Date commemorates the birth of Jesus of Nazerath. The date is not known to be his actual b-day.Second, I believe in the fundamentals on which this country was founded and christianity is one of them.
in all truth real christians celebrate it daily...not once a year..that date was given to counter other pagan gods celebrated at the time...the date of his birth is however not mentioned in scripture...
Actually, the song on the Advent commercial was played by one of our employees here at United Methodist Communications, specifically for the TV spot. Glad you enjoyed it

And you are a piffling man who searches for that with which he disagrees so that he may draw attention to himself.
For as Mason Cooley once said, "The critic roams through culture, looking for prey."
Perhaps it's time to act more mature than a five year old, hmm?

Close minded fools like yourself don't deserve the grace that's given to them. I don't either, but at least I can appreciate it.
Life isn't a huge fashion statement. Get over yourself.
