@ummhmmlies Armenia look similar to those in the middle east. Of Persia the best of the best such as The Immortals of Achaemenids and Sassanids did wear a mix of purple, black and gold. Purple was a elite guard color, gold was showing wealth and nobility and black cuz I don't know they look cool. All other warriors actually look more like the Hillmen from the game as well as Heavy Pikemen of Armenia from the game but they never wore pink and they were far tougher then how the game have them.....

Greeks intro is watever and military is booboo lol of all factions I've used (which is all of them including rebels) I never lost a 1on1 battle against human or CPU but everytime I use any greek faction minus Pontus which is more eastern I lose way more soldiers. I lose alot less men when I use Persia and almost as less when I use Carthage or barbarians. I literally don't use hoplite/phalanx when I'm greek and use literally cavalry and mercs lol greeks succ :p

It's easy to defend cities as the Seleucid Empire. Never upgrade your walls to a stone wall. Put phalanx units in the breaches in the wooden walls. If you do it correctly, you will never lose a city. Take Salamis and Rhodes to fund your empire and Susa to end any serious Parthian overtures into your territory.
@chopmankins A.I won't be stupid enough to fall for that (unless they have no choice like a fixed custom game) and like I mentioned earlier Parthia and Armenia's main warriors are hoplite/phalanx killers so they kill them before the troops reach the walls. Pontus have units for that purpose too and phalanx themselves. Your strategy doesn't work trust me I mainly play as easterns and Seleucids tried that tactic........didn't work well for them with 4 units of archers and mounted archers.

Go get that 1 free city near the egyptians for sea trade route (BUT DON'T GET PETRA OR YOU'LL HAVE THE FULL MIGHT OF EGYPT ON YOUR ASS) and get the 1 only free city near you by the Armenians. Get those cities and you'll be makin bank. Havin trade routes with Armenia and Seleucids and if you can get all the way to Egypt for trade as well. Then depending on wat your playin you'll have to attacc
@GermanConquistador08 If your playin short Campaign I say attacc Seleucids cuz Egypt and Armenia and if your luccy Pontus and/or Greece will attacc them real soon so just take Seleucia then don't expand on them anymore. After Armenia attacc and get rid of them cuz they'll have nearly their whole army in Syria. After them get Pontus then get rid of Seleucids and your done. You gotta move fast and spend your money wisely

Of a different note of ancient armies the the top 3 I'd say is 1st Rome/Persia(They both beat eachother senseless so they equal.) 2nd Germania (If they were united rome would maybe have been a memory and the 1st n only time they been "conquered" was the end of WWII O_o) and 3rd is China forgot the dynasty and India. Just look up both and you'll see

O and the only reason why they "held off" persia in the greco-persia war was because their only means of entry and escape to n from greece a bridge made of wooden boats tied together was threatened to be desrtoyed which would not be good specially in a land they don't know well and their greek and barbarian greek(Thrace ect) allies betrayed them so all they could do at that moment was retreat for now. By the way persia just wanted revenge against Athens not a large war against all of greece! O_o

The ancient Greeks contributed heavily to these fields, as well as to the field of warfare. I'm not trying to imply that the ancient Persians were inferior, they certainly were not, but to say the ancient Greeks are over rated is a bit foolish...with all respect.

@thyczko2 I was reading a Book from Osprey Publishing about the Celts. It would be interesting to see what could've happened if they had stronger leadership, but unfortunately, due to their hunger for wealth and to avoid showing cowardice in battle, it would still been hard to control them properly. In fact, one of the reasons Gaul fell was that the Gauls chased a "retreating" Ceasar, hoping to claim his loot. Of course, it was a trap. But, yes, Carthage was amazing.
@NodDisciple1 you obviously don't know much of that war the Celts had wit Rome. They didn't lose an entire war because of chasing a retreating Ceaser.
@NodDisciple1 They lost mainly because of disunity cuz many Celts were at least ok with Rome so many didn't even perceive them as a threat. Matter a fact the Celts feared the Germans more than Rome that's why most in lower Gaul allied with Rome. 2nd they lost because Ceaser fought 1 tribe at a time so it was extremely easy for him to fight other then fightin the Germans.
@NodDisciple1 Last biggest reason Ceaser was a decisive leader and the Legions were decisive soldiers Gaul are great 1on1 fighters but in an organized pitched battle without great leadership Gauls will lose which they did, though Vercingetorix told his allies not to fight a pitched battle they did anyways and lost so Ceaser took out basically all the leadership minus Commius and Vercingetorix himself

@NodDisciple1 unfortunately marriage can't happen with other factions only with random ppl within your domain but you still can ally with others. BTW Sparta isn't a faction actually they are the chosen leaders of the Greek Cities Faction. As for Carthage it's a great idea allying up with greece cuz eventually Rome either Scipii or Booty ii I mean Bruttii will attacc Greece if you allow Greece to hold Syracuse. Rome will always attacc greece if they have Syracuse on Sicily no matter wat.

I allied with Gaul and Greece then went after Rome. So they had Celts from the north, Greece from the east and me from the south beatin they ass but I admit they fought they asses off. My most used faction though is 1.Parthia 2. Germania 3.Carthage and at times for fun cuz it's easy on short cpn I play as Dacia, Pontus, Armenia and Scythia

Seleucids surrounded by Parthia, Pontus, Armenia, Greece and Egypt and Macedon, Dacia, Thrace and Scythia have the potential to get on their borders. All in all Gaul is surrounded by many powerful factions while the factions around Seleucids are all programmed to attacc them even if their allies O_o

I like seleucid, but indeed there getting lots of war. Pushing back the greek's north and than take down the egypt makes it easier if you can do that.

Egypt is the biggest threat yes but almost always Parthia and Armenia will attacc at the exact same turn and their armies are the exact definition of hoplite/phalanx killers and Pontus after takin half of Turkey will attacc you and they have some of their own units to specifically kill yours. So yes gettin Egypt is important but fightin them early is suicide just like waitin then fightin all neighbors. Lose Lose situation
@sclary96 you need to complete the game with one of the 3 roman factions then you get to choose the between the greek cities and other factions too. to play with macedon and seleucid empire you need to hack a bit but its very easy.

O and the only reason why they "held off" persia in the greco-persia war was because their only means of entry and escape to n from greece a bridge made of wooden boats tied together was threatened to be desrtoyed which would not be good specially in a land they don't know well and their greek and barbarian greek(Thrace ect) allies betrayed them so all they could do at that moment was retreat for now. Contributions to the intellectual processes, art, and architecture (to name a few) are also major factors as to how far a civilization has developed. The ancient Greeks contributed heavily to these fields, as well as to the field of warfare. I'm not trying to imply that the ancient Persians were inferior, they certainly were not, but to say the ancient Greeks are over rated is a bit foolish...with all respect.

It would be interesting to see what could've happened if they had stronger leadership, but unfortunately, due to their hunger for wealth and to avoid showing cowardice in battle, it would still been hard to control them properly. In fact, one of the reasons Gaul fell was that the Gauls chased a "retreating" Ceasar, hoping to claim his loot. Of course, it was a trap. But, yes, Carthage was amazing.

Matter a fact the Celts feared the Germans more than Rome that's why most in lower Gaul allied with Rome. 2nd they lost because Ceaser fought 1 tribe at a time so it was extremely easy for him to fight other then fightin the Germans.

@NodDisciple1 Last biggest reason Ceaser was a decisive leader and the Legions were decisive soldiers Gaul are great 1on1 fighters but in an organized pitched battle without great leadership Gauls will lose which they did, though Vercingetorix told his allies not to fight a pitched battle they did anyways and lost so Ceaser took out basically all the leadership minus Commius and Vercingetorix himself

@NodDisciple1 unfortunately marriage can't happen with other factions only with random ppl within your domain but you still can ally with others. BTW Sparta isn't a faction actually they are the chosen leaders of the Greek Cities Faction. As for Carthage it's a great idea allying up with greece cuz eventually Rome either Scipii or Booty ii I mean Bruttii will attacc Greece if you allow Greece to hold Syracuse. Rome will always attacc greece if they have Syracuse on Sicily no matter wat.

I allied with Gaul and Greece then went after Rome. So they had Celts from the north, Greece from the east and me from the south beatin they ass but I admit they fought they asses off. My most used faction though is 1.Parthia 2. Germania 3.Carthage and at times for fun cuz it's easy on short cpn I play as Dacia, Pontus, Armenia and Scythia

@NodDisciple1 And just to say the worse faction to play as in both long and short is Gaul and the Seleucids. Gaul surrounded by Spain, Carthage, Rome, Britons, Germans, Dacia, Greece and Macedon. Seleucids surrounded by Parthia, Pontus, Armenia, Greece and Egypt and Macedon, Dacia, Thrace and Scythia have the potential to get on their borders. All in all Gaul is surrounded by many powerful factions while the factions around Seleucids are all programmed to attacc them even if their allies O_o

Egypt is the biggest threat yes but almost always Parthia and Armenia will attacc at the exact same turn and their armies are the exact definition of hoplite/phalanx killers and Pontus after takin half of Turkey will attacc you and they have some of their own units to specifically kill yours.
