Sure it matters that they can't turn their arm. Thats what makes hitting a baseball so hard. Like a slider for instance. It comes at you at around 95 mph and at the last second, it breaks away from you about 2 feet. Also, when you bounce the ball, not only does it take a ton of momentum off it, but it ensures you are safe for the most part. It is very common in MLB to have a pitcher throw at your head, chin, neck, etc. That'll take some bravery. All cricket worry about it their legs.

I would compare cricket to something like.....Ummm, lacrosse. A sport where not a whole lotta people play (which means the talent pool drops considerably) which takes some skill and fitness but is by no means world class althletics. This is where Brits fail. England was nothing more than a nation that was allowed to build up it's resources because it was an Island halfway to the North Pole and other nations felt it too difficult or simply not worth it to conquer (or just didn't even know of it's existence). This is why Englands wars were essentially, France, Ireland, Scotland, etc.. when they did fight a powerhouse like Germany..well, you know.
