May i perhaps ask perhaps a zoom with cam on the chord you are doing ;) ? at least much people like me won't have to pull their hair trying to guess the right chords :D
WOW! I am a big time PF fan. Your Wish You Were Here was the best I ever heard and well... I never heard anyone try to finger pick Time/Breathe and you did a bang up job! Good going keep up the great work!
@bpvogel Thanks! Dark Side of the Moon is a long term project of mine...I've been working on and off it for ten years...check back in another ten years I might have made a DSotM fingerstyle DVD with lessons :)
@MarcBeckK Haven't even started on it, this is a rare one that I actually learnt and play from ear - most of my arrangements are painstakingly and methodically created from slowing down songs, looking at existing tabs...basically cheating :)
The chords are all straight forward - maybe have a try at transcribing what I do? You could send me the tab :)
@jawmunji Okay, well if I did that it wouldn't be done before next summer, I ask for it because I'm way to busy to do it my self. So if you haven't done it in a year, I might have haha. Oh and what software do you use for making the notations?
@MarcBeckK Ha, yeah, life sure is busy :) No wonder most of my favourite fingerstyle guitarists don't do tabs...and the ones that do charge a fee - because it is so much work!
I use powertab - it's pretty old now, but I know how to use it really well, so I haven't bothered moving to a newer platform. If you are just starting out, I hear that Powertab or Tabledit are both good tab editors.
@dindush1 Glad to hear you like it! :) Follow the link on my channel to download some mp3s of this - if you search around my mp3s under "scratchy practise" list you'll find an even fuller version of DSotM.
@fr06floyd Thanks, I need to re-record it, I've improved it and the slapping didn't come through all that well. I'm really happy with the way this arrangement came out, the challenge is going to be doing the solo in Time! :)
Sweet arrangement man, I love the way you interpreted the 'Time' part. Who said it couldn't be done on solo guitar? You got into the mood of the album perfectly. Thumbs pointing to that moon!
@hyperboreal Thanks man! It's come along some more since I did that video; if I was to post a new video every time I made a bit more progress everyone would get bored pretty quick :) I'm getting a good feel into "Us and Them" too, but "Money" is just not working out. I'm sure I'll get there in the end though.
dude, this is monneeyyyyyyyyyyyyy, i dont no how u figured out great gig in the sky but bravo, im having a hard enought time on piano with it, but great work
i really enjoy listening and watching you play the guitar, Pink Floyd is my favorite band do. I just started playing the guitar my self and i wanted to ask you for some tips on guitar playing if you could.
Thanks! Head over to my blog, my last entry has an mp3 of a dodgy recording I made more recently - it's a bit more evolved, but I've got a few years to go before this really rocks :)
Dude this is beautiful, I love Pink Floyd so much and this just encapsulates the mood of the songs brilliantly, thanks heaps that was the best 10 minutes of my day!
Ha, no plans to do it yet, there are many things I want to polish up. "Time" is straight forward on the left hand, all the tough stuff is in the right hand which doesn't tab well. Technique, technique, technique ;) chords are Fm-A-E for the verse, Dmaj-Amaj-DmajC# bass-Bm-E for the chorus.
ooooooohhh, what a GREAT way to do Time. Thanks for posting this. Work in progress or not I'm already all hyped up about doing Time on the acoustic. Been learning your version of Blue Sky/Anybody Out There, which is really good too. If you ever get more time for Time, and can tab it out, that would be wonderful. But, your video is clear enough that it may not be necessary. Thanks again JAW
"Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time...". Nah, I'm still on the right side of forty, just the moustache makes me look old. It's gone now ;)
Beautiful!! I think you may be classical trained and while I prefer strumming and singing yours is a beautiful rendition of the greatest music ever made. I too am a Pink Floyd nut and I like the passion you put into your music. Keep it up bud.
My other Breathe was on steel which suits Floyd, and I wound up the reverb to get "the sound". However, I like to think the arrangement has improved...there are more things I will do with it yet. I also like to get a bit heavier into it for the reprise, I enjoy that part.
I grew up with Pink Floyd, especially Dark Side of The Moon, and now I dabble in fingerstyle guitar, so the interest is great to me. Keep working on this, I think you'll find many people like it
Yep, I was a Floyd nut in my twenties. I was a bit annoyed the drumming part didn't come through the pickup very well, I've been having issues with the guitar. My own fault though, I've been fiddling with it ;)
yep, DSotM wi'll continue, it needs to be fingerstyled!
What do you mean "Strictly for the pink floyd fans"? You mean that non-fans may not watch it till the end?!? I hardly know the song and I did! (well, almost). I think it's great!
Ha, hey Roman ;) It's true, I figure that only diehard fans who know these songs like the back of their hands would appreciate what I've done here. Maybe I'll open that opinion up to include people who like fingerstyle arrangements as well ;)
see that cord at the base of the guitar, that is an electric out for it. my guess would be it goes strait into his computer. but i'll leave the official answer to the great Jaws of life.
Correct SSS, straight into the laptop. I was in a hurry and didn't add any reverb, I reckon some post processing reverb would be nice...or even better if I had have gone through my reverb pedal. But then you really need to have headphones so you "are playing into the sound". This was just a rough, raw catch and it will be much better in a year or two, but I figure I wouldn't wait that long, was interested in some feedback. Brett - check my FAQ for info about sound.
The more I look into DSotM the more I see the recurring sounds and themes and it's really bringing it all together. I reckon Rick has been very much underated, the wonderful tonality and harmonies are very his style, it is really the footing, the foundation of DSotM.
WOW you finally got this up here. I's BLOWN AWAY!! this is amazing this is by far your best video, you played something that has the style of so many other amazing players and made that style your own. fantastic!!
Ha, thanks, I detect you may be a Floyd fan ;) Nah, it's rough as guts at the moment, but the concepts are in place, just needs the final details fleshed out. At least I'm half way through the whole album :) It will be a good day when I can play whole of DSotM go to whoa.
Thanks AG! After I played back the percussive bit I realised I had the condensor mic a bit low... oh well. The trick with that part is to let the bass note ring, but mute the other strings so they don't sympathetically sound while you are drumming - haven't quite mastered it yet.
JAW yet another beautiful arrangement. Your channel has inspired me from playing a few chords to playing the canon for a mate's wedding in under a year. Thanks for giving up your shaving time to post another vid:{)
It's just a timing thing, basically slap bass style. You flick on *and* pull away quick so you don't mute the string. Strike with the bony side of your thumb knuckle. Getting the right sound will come, it's fairly tricky on acoustic, you can go too hard or too soft, you probably noticed I wasn't that consistent in the song, I still haven't totally mastered it myself.
Naudo is still my guitar hero, so it's not suprising if I'm starting to sound like him. I've got a looong way to go, if ever, to have his finesse. The last 20% is usually 80% of the work! ;)
AMAZING!!! One of the only covers out there actually worth watching! You are very good, you tabbed that by ear... Truly amazing, you have a musical talent.
Go for it uP, it would be good to see where you take it - which bit did you like?
My playing was awful, so many rookie mistakes that I should be well passed. But I wasn't going to play it again ;)
The good part is that every time I play it it's different, and there are no tabs, which means I'm actually being a musician - I know the chords and the phrases, and semi-improvise my way through, as opposed to my normal programmed robotic playing.
I liked the whole arrangement jaw. Iv'e just watched it again and its still good.
I have redone great gig in the sky - and I have transposed it down by 3 semi-tones so that the vocal section is in Em instead of Gm. It makes it much easier to play.
I will upload it when i have the time...hopefully next week.
Glad to see that you have started to improvise a bit - makes it much more fun i think.....like you say, its slightly different every time you play and it takes more concentration
I had a go at aiming for Em/Am for the vocal section, but I was never satisfied with the resolves for the rest of the song. I look forward to hearing your newie.
I've been playing Time/Breathe Reprise a lot recently, I'm really enjoying it, and doing some different stuff with it each time around - I reckon you'd knock it out in no time.
I've got a few others I should do, everything is a bit rough and unpolished at the moment. Work, family and I'm halfway through moving house, no time.
I've already done Brain Damage and Eclipse, they are heaps better now too, and I have the framework for Us and Them, just need to get something for Money, think I will copy from Igor he did a great version.
I've got a lot more to do with the vocals in GGitS, what I played here was just the start of it, to see if it was possible. The only songs I haven't played with from DSotM is Money and Any Colour you like - everything else I can play to some extent*
Thanks :) I played this once, and I was about 30 seconds from the end (after 12 minutes of playing) and my daughter ran up to me "daddy! daddy! daddy!" and I had to stop. I wasn't particularly happy...then I played it all again for another 12 mins, not quite as well - which is what we have here.
Wasn't going so much for perfection as for just what I'm up to. There is a lot of side A still unwritten as you can probably tell ;)
Did you like the few changes I made to Breathe? There is still a few more things I'd like to do on the bassline to imitate Roger's work a bit more. The original version I made was just a simple alternating bass, I've moved on a bit from there :)
this was so awesome

I've got a few others I should do, everything is a bit rough and unpolished at the moment. Work, family and I'm halfway through moving house, no time.
I've already done Brain Damage and Eclipse, they are heaps better now too, and I have the framework for Us and Them, just need to get something for Money, think I will copy from Igor he did a great version.
Thanks!

Thats great. Love how you played the vocals in Great Gig in the Sky. Hope you are gonna play the whole Dark Side of the Moon.

I've got a lot more to do with the vocals in GGitS, what I played here was just the start of it, to see if it was possible. The only songs I haven't played with from DSotM is Money and Any Colour you like - everything else I can play to some extent*
Thanks!

Nice idea my friend. I like it. I've been playing your 'Breathe' compilation for over a year now. Love it.

Did you like the few changes I made to Breathe? There is still a few more things I'd like to do on the bassline to imitate Roger's work a bit more. The original version I made was just a simple alternating bass, I've moved on a bit from there :)
Thanks!

Yeah, the changes were unexpected but very much welcome. Added another level of complexity to the score. Keep it up.
