As an opera singer, I would, if only out of respect for this great personality and wonderful woman, any offer of this shitty OPERA HOUSE refuse! It's about the song and not the silly superficial aesthetical demands! FUCK OF Covent Garden
i am sorry to say this but... I listened to her coming back show in london. She was not bad, but surely different from before. She sounded like... just one of good soprano. And then she planned to sing Tosca in London, I bought the ticket and she couldn't sing, due to throat illness. I listened to her brunnhilde last night in cinema, i don't know how it was like in real opera house, it was not bad, but can't compare to what she was like before.
I am really torn about this. We have come to viewing opera as the "total package", where it's not just about singing. Theatrically, it is hard to accept large singers as romantic leads. But the whole idea of opera is pretty crazy anyway, the old definition being "the place where, when a guy gets stabbed, instead of dying, he sings". I am happy for Deborah Voigt's health. Her knees probably thank her every day, not to mention her whole cardio-vascular system.
@BernardProfitendieu Saw her last night as Minnie. She still one of the greats, but had a real off night. The guy who played Rance, Marco Vratogna, stole the show for me.
I really admire her, does she ever offer coachings to aspiring young fans? I have tickets to see her in Salome at Pacific Opera and would love to take a lesson or even just a chat about opera!
I used to go to Sunday School with Deborah Voigt in middle school at a small church in Prospect Heights, IL. She was a nice kid back then, and I never imagined she'd be this fantastic opera singer as an adult. Her voice is amazing, and I am in awe of her, big or small. Please tell her that Denise Chase said "Congratulations on your awsome career. I, too, just had gastric bypass surgery a week ago."
@dllars6005 I went to church with her in SoCal back in the '80's. While she was in college working on her music, she was actually the pianist for our high school choir. She had her final college recital at church, which was packed, of course. I've followed her career over the years from afar. Proud of you, Debbie! You look great!
Let her know what an inspiration she is. I finally saw her live at the Lyric Opera preview at Millennium Park this September and she looks fantastic! Apparently my voice teacher had pizza with her after rehearsal one day (what a story--pizza with Deborah Voigt!)
She's such an inspiration to everybody, including me. Tell her I nearly died with laughter after watching "The Return of the Little Black Dress" video :)

Just shows people will do anything to sing at one of the top Opera houses. Even loose 100 pounds to be hired! LOL
